  • A landmark is a representative image of a given region that impresses distinct regional characteristics upon visitors. As such, there is a need for each local government to develop a symbolic landmark. We investigated examples of landmark development intended to promote regional revitalization in hopes to provide a basic guideline for developing future landmarks, related tourism products, and tourism promotion policy. Aomori prefecture in Japan was selected as a site for a field study. For a long time, Japan has tried to internationalize and revitalize its provincial regions by establishing various tourism policies. In order to foster the tourism industry in rural areas that are behind in development, Aomori prefecture sought to promote local revitalization through the development of tourism products and cultural space centered on a landmark. Based on this example, we can summarize the conditions for successful landmark development as follows. First, in deciding on the symbolism or the design of a landmark, we must fully investigate and understand the given region and invest sufficient time and funds. Second, we must consider the accessibility of the landmark and make sure its surroundings can also serve as a tourist attraction element. Third, in order to increase the value of visiting a landmark, it is important to provide a variety of things to see and enjoy both inside and outside of the landmark, which can be achieved through continuous operation and management of amenities and diverse programs.

  • In order to supply the residential land for the promotion of public welfare, it must take a land of city suburb. That land have the difference in thinking is large for the determination of land prices to a variety of development pressure and land use regulations. In the process of executing a public project, the difference of these ideas has become a cause of conflict. Therefore, through objective study for the determination of land prices, to reduce the difference of ideas is going to be a clue of conflict resolution. This study selected the case area that is typical public district of many conflict, and then fix a compensation unit price like fair price as dependent variable. The selected variables through previous studies and expert consultation was an independent variable. To analyze the impact factors of land prices in the hedonic price model. The results were analyzed by distinguishing the group on the basis of the zoning and using, whether or not the site of the building in part that there is influence variable, the aspects of accessibility and regulation in part degree of influence variable came out different results for each group. It is analyzed that it reasonable results. Add selected site assimilation of the building that have not been presented in previous studies as a variable and which was applied at a rate to a variable of road have improved in more expliction of the influence of variables.

  • While $LibQUAL+^{TM}$ is in the headlines of many articles focusing on library service evaluations, little research has been conducted to study the relationship between the $LibQUAL+^{TM}$ factors and the adoption of library services. It remains unclear whether the factors of $LibQUAL+^{TM}$ have any effect on its adoption. A framework was adapted from Icek Ajzen's theory of planned behavior and proposed to extract factors affecting the adoption of library services. The factors were examined via data collection from a Web-based questionnaire survey with college students in the United States. Factor analyses and multiple regression analysis were conducted. Findings show that the intention to use library services is explained by attitude toward library service quality. The attitudinal factors that are significant are (1) perceived personal control, (2) perceived affect of service, and (3) perceived comprehensiveness of information. The relative importance among the factors is also represented by the numbered sequence. However, perceived timeliness of information access and the perception of library as place do not have a significant effect on the intention. This study extends the research on library service evaluation, and provides a new evaluation framework by applying adoption behaviors.

  • With an increase in urban crimes in various forms, this study is intended to analyze the effectiveness of the service design that presented a new model resolving crime risks through differentiated thinking paradigm and problem approaches. The empirical case addressed in this study is 'the project to create resident-driven safe community in Duryu-dong, Dalseo-gu, Deagu though service design'. This project is evaluated as having prepared a prevention-oriented local safety system through a preemptive and resident-centered process. The project was promoted as a 'natural monitoring capacity building program' for residents to prevent local crimes, a 'social role expansion program' for local safety, and 'crime prevention environment design', which provides comprehensive solutions for residents' safety. Here, designers act as exerts in designing a task-based platform that can be driven by residents rather than a visual environment improver, and reorganizing the local ecosystem by expanding the opportunities for residents to interact. This case identifies the role of service design as binding the solidarity of local residents beyond the improvement of the crime environment and giving them the potential capacity to maintain a safe living space in relation to a safety issues of community.

  • Restoration, prediction and noise analysis of geomagnetic data measured in the Korean Peninsula were performed. Restoration methods based on an optimized principal component analysis (PCA) and the geostatistical kriging approach were proposed, and its effectiveness was also interpreted. The PCA-based method seemed to be effective to restore the periodical signals and the geostatistical approach was stable to fill the gaps of measurements. To analyze the noise level for each observatory, the geomagnetic time-series was plotted by scattergram which reflects the spatial variation, using data observed during same period. The scattergram showed that the observation made at Cheongyang seemed to have better quality in spatial continuity and stability, and the restoration result was also better than that of Icheon site. For the restoration, both of the methods, geostatistical and optimizaed PCA, showed stable result when the missing of observation was within 20 points. However, in case of more missing observations than 20 points and prediction problem, the optimized PCA seemed to be closer to the real observation considering the frequency-domain characteristics. The prediction using the optimized PCA seems to be plausible for one day of period for interpretation.

  • Ran Gang is a huge, attractive river which meanders through Seoul, the capital of South Korea. However, during the modernization of Seoul, the river gradually lost its natural beauty and healthy condition. Han Gang Renaissance is a project to upgrade the look of the Seoul waterfront, by overcoming this disaster and reorganizing the surroundings of Han Gang. This research articulates the design strategies and description of the prizewinning work of the International Design Competition for Yeouido Riverside Park that was linked to the Han Gang Renaissance Project. There are three key points that basically speak to the identity of the new waterfront, Yeouido Riverside Park. First, the current day Yeouido was recreated as an artificial island through the rapid expansion of the city and the initiation of the shore protection works. However, because it is the only island still remaining that shows the history of Han Gang, the park was designed to be the place which preserves the lyric of sand island and the emotional memory of riverside. Secondly, among the six districts of the Han Gang Renaissance Project, the two districts that are facing each other, Yongsan and Yeouido, are the central areas promoting international finance and business. Despite Yongsan's complete urban image, the exquisite harmony of pastoral scenes and skyscrapers of the Yeouido waterfront is presented to develop an active mutual relation with Yongsan. Lastly, this design scheme re-establishes the relationship between this competition's site, Yeouido Riverside Park, and a neighboring site, Yeouido Park.

  • Electrosurgical knee wand (EKW) is a high-frequency thermocautery instrument and is often used for coagulation, ablation, excision, and extirpation of knee ligaments and tissues. In order to maximize the success rate, ease, and safety of knee surgery using EKW and radiofrequency ablation, it is necessary to ensure that the EKW selectively approaches the lesion with utmost accuracy and safety. The key feature of this instrument is its excellent maneuverability. Hence, the authors constructed a tensile spring model based on a shape memory alloy (SMA), which exhibits the shape memory effect. This model can be used in knee surgery as it is considered the most biocompatible femorotibial surgical actuator. The changes in external temperature with current and the thermoelectric characteristics of the SMA were investigated. The relationship between the restoring force and the typical stroke (TS) in response to the conditions in the SMA tensile spring design were evaluated. In conclusion, as the diameter of the SMA tensile spring decreased, the maximum temperature increased. The strain in the actuator caused a stable and proportional increase in the force and induced current for up to 15s, but this increase became very unstable after 30s. Moreover, the relationship between the current and the TS was more stable than that between the current and the restoring force.

  • Dynamic Thermal Management (DTM) technique is generally used for reducing the peak temperature (hotspot) in the microprocessors. Despite the advantages of lower cooling cost and improved stability, the DTM technique inevitably suffers from performance loss. This paper proposes the DualFloating-Point Adders Architecture to minimize the performance loss due to thermal problem when the floating-point applications are executed. During running floating-point applications, only one of two floating-point adders is used selectively in the proposed architecture, leading to reduced peak temperature in the processor. We also propose a new floorplan technique, which creates Space for Heat Transfer Delay in the processor for solving the thermal problem due to heat transfer between adjacent hot units. As a result, the peak temperature drops by $5.3^{\circ}C$ on the average (maximum $10.8^{\circ}C$ for the processor where the DTM is adopted, consequently giving a solution to the thermal problem. Moreover, the processor performance is improved by 41% on the average by reducing the stall time due to the DTM.

  • Korean regional network of tower flux sites, KoFlux, has been initiated to better understand $CO_2$, water and energy exchange between ecosystems and the atmosphere, and to contribute to regional, continental, and global observation networks such as FLUXNET and CEOP. Due to heterogeneous surface characteristics, most of KoFlux towers are located in non-ideal sites. In order to quantify carbon and energy exchange and to scale them up from plot scales to a region scale, applications of various methods combining measurement and modeling are needed. In an attempt to infer regional-scale flux, four methods (i.e., tower flux, convective boundary layer (CBL) budget method, MM5 mesoscale model, and NCAR/NCEP reanalysis data) were employed to estimate sensible heat flux representing different surface areas. Our preliminary results showed that (1) sensible heat flux from the tower in Haenam farmland revealed heterogeneous surface characteristics of the site; (2) sensible heat flux from CBL method was sensitive to the estimation of advection; and (3) MM5 mesoscale model produced regional fluxes that were comparable to tower fluxes. In view of the spatial heterogeneity of the site and inherent differences in spatial scale between the methods, however, the spatial representativeness of tower flux need to be quantified based on footprint climatology, geographic information system, and the patch scale analysis of satellite images of the study site.
