  • This paper proposes a new approach on nonlinear maneuvering target tracking. In this paper, proposed algorithm is the Kalman filter based on the adaptive interactive multiple model using the concept of predicted impact point and utilize modified Kalman filter regarding the error between measurement position and predicted impact point. The unknown target acceleration is regarded as an additional process noise to the target model, and each sub-model is characterized in accordance with the valiance of the overall process noise which is obtained on the basis of each acceleration interval. To compensate the decreasing performance of Kalman filter in nonlinear maneuver, we construct optional algorithm to utilize proposed method or Kalman filter selectively. To effectively estimate the acceleration during the target maneuvering, the rapid increase of the noise scale is recognized as the acceleration to be used in maneuvering target's movement equation. And a few examples are presented to show suggested algorithm's executional potential.

  • In order to satisfy several conditions with respect to size, weight, and costs, automotive radars use an antenna consisting of a small number of receiving channels. If RELAX technique is applied to the automotive radars, angles of targets located in antenna beam can be estimated as well as the number of the targets. However, a small number of receiving channels in the antenna leads to inaccurate spectral estimation in angle domain, which in turn degrades performance of RELAX technique. Therefore, in this study, root-MUSIC technique coupled with MDL criterion is introduced to decide accurate angles of targets in antenna beam. In simulations, we show superior performance of proposed scheme using simulation results when three point targets are located in antenna beam.

  • In this paper, we proposed airborne target recognition using multi-channel combining method in DTV-based passive radar. By combining multi-channel signals, we obtained the HRRP with sufficient range resolution. HRRP was obtained by AR method or zero-padding. From the obtained HRRP, we extracted scattering centers by CLEAN algorithm using the gradient descent. We extracted feature vectors and performed target recognition after training neural network using the extracted feature vectors. To verify performance of proposed methods, we assumed frequency bands of three broadcasting transmitters operated in Korea(Mt. Gwan-ak, Mt. Yong-moon, Kyeon-wol-ak) and used full scale 3D CAD model of four targets. Also we compared the target recognition performance of the proposed method with that of using only single-channel of three broadcasting transmitters. As a result, proposed methods showed better performance than using only single-channel at three broadcasting transmitters.

  • This paper proposed a combining technique of feature vectors which improves the performance of radar target recognition. The proposed method obtains more information than monostatic or bistatic case by combining extracted feature vectors from two receivers. For verifying the performance of the proposed method, we calculated monostatic and bistatic RCS(BRCS) of three full-scale fighters by changing the receiver position. Then, the scattering centers are extracted using 1-D FFT-based CLEAN from the calculated RCS data. Scattering centers are used as feature vectors for neural network classifier. The results show that our method has the better performance than the monostatic or bistatic case.

  • Passive sonar systems detect and classify the target by analyzing the radiated noises from vessels. If multiple noise sources exist within the sonar detection range, it gets difficult to classify each noise source because mixture of noise sources are observed. To overcome this problem, a beamforming technique is used to separate noise sources spatially though it has various limitations. In this paper, we propose a new method that uses a FDICA (Frequency Domain Independent Component Analysis) to separate noise sources from the mixture. For experiments, each noise source signal was synthesized by considering the features such as machinery tonal components and propeller tonal components. And the results of before and after separation were compared by using LOFAR (Low Frequency Analysis and Recording), DEMON (Detection Envelope Modulation On Noise) analysis.

  • This study was performed to prepare the verification film for localizing beam-target position with the Photon Knife radiosurgery system (PKRS) using linear accelerator(Mitsubishi, Model ML-15MDX). We developed a laser calibration system using a reticle of transparent lucite to detect Inlet and outlet beams. We verified fixation of the second collimator with film mounted on a holder in the shape of an octagon block 5cm apart from the isocenter. The film was exposed to photon beams of linear accelerator at an interval of 45 degrees during the gantry movement. There were no shifts in the beam of the second collimator during gantry movement. We used a position marker which is designed a head-shaped small lead block and a 10 mm in diameter of steel bead in the plastic tube. The position marker helped to verify the beam directions with patient position in multi-arc and trans-multi-arc of PKRS The verification of beam alignments showed an average 0.8$\pm$0.26 mm discrepancy in LINAC-gram images of PKRS. In our study, the couch movement was $\pm$5 mm laterally, while it shook $\pm$ 2 mm toward the couch axis. The couch, however, was immediately returned to the initial site after shaking. Thus, we postulate that the beam-target position(s) should be verified with LINAC-gram in a stereotactic radiosurgery system to achieve the accuracy of beam-target alignment.

  • This study examined the influence of the SOA(stimulus onset asynchrony) between visual and auditory stimuli on the integration phenomenon of audio-visual senses. Within the stimulus integration phenomenon, the redundant target effect (the faster and more accurate response to the target stimulus when the target stimulus is presented with more than two modalities) and the visual dominance effect (the faster and more accurate response to a visual stimulus compared to an auditory stimulus) were examined as we composed a visual and auditory unimodal target condition and a multimodal target condition and then observed the response time and accuracy. Consequently, despite the change between visual and auditory stimuli SOA, there was no redundant target effect present. The auditory dominance effect appeared when the SOA between the two stimuli was over 100ms. Theses results imply that the redundant target effect is continuously maintained even when the SOA between two modal stimuli is altered, and also suggests that the behavioral results of superior information processing can only be deducted when the time difference between the onset of the auditory stimuli and the visual stimuli is approximately over 100ms.

  • In order to form focused inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) images of a non-uniformly rotating target, rotational motion compensation(RMC) should be performed. Prominent point processing(PPP), one of the most representative RMC methods, is used to compensate nonlinear rotation motion by exploiting the phase signals of scatterers. In this paper, we propose a new RMC method based on the integrated cubic phase function(ICPF). The ICPF requires only one-dimensional(1-D) maximization to estimate the phases of multi-component signals. Simulation results using a point scatterers model in the absence of dominant scatterers validate that PPP based on ICPF can achieve well-focused ISAR images in real time.

  • Many studies in detection and classification of the targets in the underwater environments have been conducted for military purposes, as well as for non-military purpose. Due to the complicated characteristics of underwater acoustic signal reflecting multipath environments and spatio-temporal varying characteristics, active sonar target detection technique has been considered as a difficult technique. In this paper, we describe the basic concept of Fractional Fourier transform and optimal transform order. Then we analyze the relationship between time-frequency characteristics of an LFM signal and its spectrum using Fractional Fourier transform. Based on the analysis results, we present active sonar target detection method. To verify the performance of proposed methods, we compared the results with conventional FFT-based matched filter. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method compared to the conventional method in the aspect of AUC(Area Under the ROC Curve).

  • In this paper, a novel approach estimating target's rotation velocity(RV) is proposed for inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) cross-range scaling(CRS). Scale invariant feature transform(SIFT) is applied to two sequently generated ISAR images for extracting non-fluctuating scatterers. Considering the fact that the distance between target's rotation center(RC) and SIFT features is same, we can set a criterion for estimating RV. Then, the criterion is optimized through the proposed method based on particle swarm optimization(PSO) combined with exhaustive search method. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can precisely estimate RV of a scenario based maneuvering target without RC information. With the use of the estimated RV, ISAR image can be correctly re-scaled along the cross-range direction.
