This experiment was carried out to obtain the basic informations on yield performance and physicochemical quality properties of North Korean rices at southern high altitude area, Unbong and southeren plain area, Iksan. North Korean cultivars showed significant difference in number of spikelets per panicle, percentage of ripened grain and yield between two locations, but not significant in number of panicle per hill and l000-grain weight. The highest contribution to grain yield was the percentage of ripened grain and l000-grain weight at Iksan and Unbong, respectively, The protein, amylose content, alkali digestion value and Mg/K ratio showed larger variation in varieties than that in the locations cultivated. Mg and K revealed highly significant variations in locations, varieties and variety $\times$ location (V$\times$L) interaction. The amylogram characteristics such as initial pasting temperature, peak, breakdown, setback and consistency viscosities showed highly significant variation in locations, varieties and V$\times$L interaction. The physical characteristics of cooked rice such as adhesiveness, gumniness and chewiness also showed highly significant variations in locations, varieties and V$\times$L interaction.
Fruits are generally subjected to mechanical forces during harvesting, handling, and transportation that may cause damage in the form of bruises, punctures, and cracks. In order to prevent damage, and insure better quality fruits for consumers, it is very essential to study physical properties of these materials. The studies were conducted to examine the effect of storage period, storage condition, and other factors, such as loading rate and initial strain, on the stress relaxation behavior of the fruit flesh, and develop nonlinear viscoelastic models to represent its stress relaxation behavior. The following results were obtained from the study : 1. Since the viscoelastic behavior of the fruits flesh was nonlinear, the behavior was satisfactorily modelled as follows ; $${\delta}({\varepsilon},\;t)={\varepsilon}^A[B\;{\exp}(-Ct)+D\;{\exp}(-Ft)+G(-Ht)]$$ But, for the every strain applied, the stress relaxation behavior of the fruit flesh, such as apple and pear, could be well described by the Generalized Maxwell model, respectively. 2. The effect of loading rate on the stress relaxation behavior was remarkable. The higher loading rate resulted in the higher initial stress, and the faster stress relaxation. 3. The higher initial strain resulted in the higher initial stress, and stress relaxed at the large initial strain was also much higher than at the small initial strain. 4. Stress relaxation rate and quantity stored in the fruits at the low temperature storage were much higher than those at the normal temperature storage in the same storage period. Also, in all fruits tested, the longer storage period was the more relaxation rate and quantity were shown. These trends in the normal temperature condition was the more significant than in the low temperature condition.
In recent, lots of researches for mechanical-empirical design concept for asphalt pavement are on going. AASHTO 2002 Design Guide in USA and KPRP(Korean Pavement Research Program) in Korea are under developing. In these programs, the mechanical properties of hot mix asphalt are a key role for design and analysis. Unfortunately, there is no proper database on the mechanical properties of hot mix asphalt, such as dynamic modulus. The use of dynamic modulus has couple of good advantages which is based on temperature, traffic loading and frequency on pavement. In this research, the verification of the relationship between maximum nominal aggregate size and dynamic modulus has been carried out. Also, test specimen size effect on dynamic modulus has been conducted. Considering the limitation of laboratory testing machine in Korea, test specimen with 100mm diameter and 150mm height is recommended for dynamic modulus test. Also, as the maximum nominal aggregate size increases, the dynamic modulus of hot mix asphalt increases.

Poymer blends of two degradable aliphatic polyesters, relatively expensive material polylactic acid (PLA) and relatively inexpensive material poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT), were used in this study. Three different kinds of modifiers were used with various amounts. Diisocyanate type methylenediphenyl 4,4'-diisocyanate (MDI) and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) were used as modifiers and epoxy type coupling agents also used. The melt flow index (MFI) and dynamic viscoelasticity of various compositions of PLA/PBAT blends were studied. The mechanical property and morphology with respect to the fracture surface of PLA/PBAT blends were also investigated using tensile test and field emission scanning electronic microscopy, respectively. These tests were also used to verify the compatibility of PLA/PBAT and the effect of mechanical properties due to the use of modifiers. Tensile properties of PLA/PBAT blends modified with HDI were improved remarkably.
The quality of bread made of sprouted brown rice ($20\%$), wheat flour and pumpkin powder was investigated. The bread was manufactured with 0, 1, 3 and $5\%$ pumpkin powder (W/W) with increasing and wheat flour. Volume of the breads were decreased from 4.68 mL/g to 3.60 mL/g as pumpkin powder contents increased from $0\%\;to\;5\%$. Lightness decreased with increasing pumpkin powder contents. Yellowness increased from 10.97 to 27.01 with increasing pumpkin powder contents. Textural characteristics of bread crumb were influenced by adding additives pumpkin powder. Hardness, adhesiveness and chewiness of bread decreased as the added level of pumpkin powder. In sensory evaluation, sensory scores for color, flavor and overall quality of bread increased with increasing pumpkin powder contents.
In this work, PLLA/EGMA blends were prepared by melt blending of biodegradable Poly-L-lactic acid(PLLA) with Poly(ethylene-co-glycidyl methacrylate)(EGMA) and Engage as impact modifiers by twin screw extruder. Blend compositions of PLLA/Impact modifier blends were 100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75 and 0/100, respectively. Also, Talc was added to 3 PLLA rich phases on PLLA/EGMA blends. The morphology, viscoelastic/mechanical properties were characterized by FESEM, DMA, UTM and Izod impact tester. DMA and Izod impact test data showed that storage modulus at room temperature with increasing EGMA and Engage contents decreased, and impact strength increased. However, storage modulus at room temperature increased by adding talc. From FESEM image, we observed that domain phase was well dispersed into matrix. Although the tensile strength and flexural modulus were decreased with increasing the content of EGMA and Engage in them, they could be supplemented by adding talc.

The objective of the present study is to investigate the characteristics of the dividing flow in the laminar flow region. Using glycerine water solution(wt43%) for Newtonian fluid and the polymer of viscoelastic fluid(500wppm) for non-Newtonian fluid, this research investigates the flow state of the dividing tube in steady laminar flow region of the two dimensional dividing tube by measuring the effect of Reynolds number, dividing angle, and the flow rate ratio on the loss coefficient. In T- and Y-type tubes, the loss coefficients of the Newtonian fluid decreases in constant rate when the Reynolds number is below 100. The effect of the flow rate ratio on the loss coefficients is negligible. But when the Reynolds number is over 100, the loss coefficient with various flow rate ratios approach an asymptotic value. The loss coefficient of the non-Newtonian fluid for different the Reynolds number shows the similar tendency of the Newtonian fluid. And when the Reynolds number is over 300, the loss coefficient is approximately 1.03 regardless of flow rate ratio or the dividing angle. The aspect ratio does hardly influence the reattachment length and the loss coefficient of both Newtonian and non Newtonian fluid. The loss coefficient decreases as the Reynolds number increases. The loss coefficient of Newtonian fluid is larger than that of non-Newtonian fluid.

This study investigated the influence of the viscoelastic property of slag when producing glass fiber, MFS631 with 60% of manganese slag, 30% of steel slag, and 10% of silica stone. To fabricate the MFS631 glass bulk, slag materials were placed in an alumina crucible, melted at $1,550^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, and then annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. It was found that glass is non-crystalline through X-ray diffraction analysis. MFS631 fiber was produced at speed in the range of 100~300 rpm at $1,150^{\circ}C$. The loss modulus (G") and storage modulus (G') of the produced glass fiber were evaluated at high temperatures. G' and G" of MFS631 were greater than $893^{\circ}C$, and the modulus value was 136,860 pa. This is similar to the results of a general E-glass fiber graph. Therefore, it was concluded that its spinnability is similar to that of E-glass fiber; therefore, it can be commercialized.

Particulate reinforced composite is composed of hard particles and polymer matrix. This material has been widely applied for engineering industry such as automobile, construction and aerospace. For the safe application, it is important to assess crack resistance behavior. Especially in aerospace industry, crack could cause significant problem when the material is used for solid rocket fuel. Therefore, it is inevitable to estimate the characteristics of the crack propagation. In this study, crack propagation tests were conducted using particulate reinforced composite under crosshead rate 2.54 mm/min in the range of temperature $-60^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$. The strain contour of surface for specimen was generated using digital image correlation method.

Styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR) has good abrasion resistance, miscibility, and anti-vibration property. however, it is easily damaged by ozone and swelled by hydrocarbon fluids because of unsaturation part in main chain, that causes loss of visco-elasticity and reduction of product's life cycle. Therefore, object of this study is to cope with this problem. SBR is blended with various proportion of ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer(EPDM), which has excellent ozone and oxygen resistance, to improve physical properties and ozone resistance, and diverse analytical techniques are used to measure morphology, glass transition temperature$(T_g)$, ozone-resistance, degradation temperature, static spring constant, hardness for considering a suitability for anti-vibration industrial product. We found that the blend consisting of SBR 70% and EPDM 30% showed no crack after ozone test and good miscibility between SBR and EPDM from this study.
