A Study on the Linearity Improvement of Power Amplifier by Predistortion Method (전치왜곡 방식을 이용한 전력증폭기의 선형성 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The 3rd order intermodulation(IM3) signals affect a great influence on fundamental signal because IM3 can not be rejected by a filter. To solve this problem, in this paper, a predistortion method was applied. The designed predistorter cascaded to 4 W power amplifier and tested with two-tone spreaded 5 MHz. As an experimental result, it was cleary shown that the 3rd order intermodulation distortion characteristics has been improved as much as 17 dB when the output of the power amplifier is 30.67 dB.

A Design of Predistortion Linearizer using 2nd Low Frequency Intermodulation Signal Injection (2차 저주파 혼변조 신호 주입을 이용한 전치 왜곡 선형 화기 설계)

  • This paper presents a new predistortion method which injects the 2nd low-frequency intermodulation signal of RF signals into the input bias line of the amplifier. New 2nd intermodulation signal extraction circuit is also proposed. We have shown that this method can suppress the 3rd IM apparently and sometimes do the 5th IM, through mathematical analysis, then confirmed it with simulation and verified it on the desk test. When the input signal CDMA IS-95 lFA is applied, measured ACPR improvements are 25 dBc, 22.5 dBc, and 6 dBc at 0.885 MHz, l.25 MHz and 2.25 MHz offset respectively. Also, when applying the CDMA IS-95 3FA, the measured ACPR improvement is 20 dBc at 0.885 MHz offset.

A Design of Predistorter for Controlling the Amplitude of Low-Frequency IM Signals (저주파 혼변조 신호의 크기 조절에 의한 전치 왜곡 선형화기 설계)

  • In this paper, a new predistortion linearizer for controlling the amplitude of low frequency intermodulation distortion signals is proposed. The low frequency intermodulation distortion(IMD) components are generated by harmonic generator. A vector modulator, modulate fundamental signal with low frequency IMD signals, generates predistortion IMD signals and controls amplitude and phase of them with modulation factors. As a result, this predistorter is suppressed IMD signals of power amplifier effectively. The predistortion linearizer has been manufactured to operate in cellular base-station transmitting band($869{\sim}894\;MHz$). The experimental results show that IMD3 of power amplifier are improved more than 20 dB for CW two-tone signals. Also, it's improved the adjacent channel power ratio(ACPR) more than 10 dB for IS-95 CDMA IFA signals.

  • 본 논문에서는 ATSC 지상파 디지털 TV 방송방식을 사용하는 등화형 동일채널 중계기(Equalization Digital On-Channel Repeater: EDOCR)에서의 신호처리 시간지연을 최소화하기 위한 전치등화 방법에 대하여 기술하고 결과를 다양한 각도에서 분석한다. 제안된 전치등화 방법은 기준신호인 기저대역 신호와 복조된 중계기 출력신호를 이용하여 전치등화필터계수를 계산하고 펄스성형필터계수와의 컨볼루션을 통해 얻어진 새로운 펄스성형필터를 이용하는 것이다. 새로운 펄스성형필터의 전치 탭 수를 조절함으로써 시간지연을 최소화하고, 마스크필터에 의한 선형왜곡을 보상할 뿐 아니라, 원래 펄스성형필터의 대역 외 방사 특성의 열화를 최소화할 수 있다. 이를 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 및 제작된 전치등화기를 이용하여 검증하였다.

Improved 20Mb/s CMOS Optical Receiver for Digital Audio Interfaces (디지털 오디오 인터페이스용 개선된 20Mb/s CMOS 광수신기)

  • This paper proposes CMOS optical receivers to reduce effective area and pulse width distortion (PWD) in high definition digital audio interfaces. To mitigate effective area and PWD, proposed receivers include a frans-impedance amplifier (TIA) with dual output and a level shifter with threshold convergence, respectively. Proposed circuits are fabricated using $0.25{\mu}m$ CMOS process and measured result demonstrated the effective area of $270\times120{\mu}m^2$ and PWD of ${\pm}3%$ for the receiver with a dual output TIA, and the effective area of $410\times140{\mu}m^2$ and PWD of ${\pm}2%$ for the receiver with a threshold convergence level shifter.

  • This paper proposes LUT based predistorter using interpolater to reduce nonlinear distortion which was generated by HPA. We minimized performance degradation from the reduced LUT size with linear interpolation. We updated LUT using LMS algorithm using input data as reference data. As a result, it is shown that when the size of the LUT is 8, linear interpolation is the most outstanding performance in the view of performance and H/W complexity.

Nonlinear distortion compensation of LD and optical intensity modulator using predistorter (전치왜곡기를 이용한 LD 및 광변조기의 비선형 왜곡 보상)

  • Nonlinear distortion introduced by the optical transmitter using a direct modulation of laser diode(LD) and an indirect modulation of optical modulator can limit considerably the performance of analog optical link system such as subcarrier multiplexing system. In this paper, we have compensated the nonlinear distortion of LD and optical modulator using electrical predistorter. In the case of LD, two-tone experiments using 877.5 MHz and 882.5 MHz have shown reduction of 19 dB in third-order intermodulation product(IMP$_3$). And in the case of optical modulator, we have achieved nearly 21 dB reduction in IMP3 through two-tone experiments using 1.8975 GHz and 1.9025 GHz. The spurious free dynamic ranges of LD and optical modulator are also improved by 5 dB/Hz$^{2}$ 3/ and 7 dB/Hz$^{2}$ 3/, respectively.
