  • A note-book PC has become thinner in recent years. And optical disc drives are required to have high memory capacity. Therefore, the actuator of optical disc drives must be thinner and have disc tilt compensation function for high density memory. In this paper, the hybrid type actuator is investigated for 3-axis ultra-slim actuator. A 3-axis ultra-slim actuator is designed by using the modal analysis of the actuator and the electromagnetic analysis of magnetic circuit to achieve dynamic characteristics and magnetic flux density for high sensitivity, respectively. Also, magnetic force between tilt magnet and tilt yoke is investigated to find the influence on the DC sensitivity in the focus and track directions.

  • This paper deals with the mechanical stress analysis caused by the electromagnetic radial force and the design considering the stress. The link in an Interior Permanent Magnet Brushless Motor(IPM) have influence on the mechanical and magnetic performance. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the appropriate link thickness. The optimal geometry link is designed by using the coupled with structural and electromagnetic Finite Element Method.

  • In this paper, the performance of power generation for the energy harvesting block with a combination of piezoelectric technology and electromagnetic technology among various energy harvesting technologies was investigated. The goal of this study is to evaluate on the applicability of our developed energy harvesting block into the field of urban & housing. First, we carried out a finite element vibration analysis and evaluated the performance of power generation for the multi-layer energy harvester at laboratory scale. Second, we described the features of our developed prototype module that includes amplification technologies to improve power density per module and evaluated the performance of power generation for the energy harvesting block in a variety of ways. Finally, we suggested the direction for the improvement of the energy harvesting block module.

  • In recent years, several rapid-mold-heating techniques that can be used for the injection molding of thin-walled parts or micro/nano structures have been developed. High-frequency induction heating, which involves heating by electromagnetic induction, is an efficient method for the rapid heating of mold surfaces. The present study proposes an integrated numerical model of the high-frequency induction heating process and the resulting injection molding process. To take into account the effects of thermal boundary conditions in induction heating, we carry out a fully integrated numerical analysis that combines electromagnetic field calculation, heat transfer analysis, and injection molding simulation. The proposed integrated simulation is extended to the injection molding of a thin-wall part, and the simulation results are compared with the experimental findings. The validity of the proposed simulation is discussed according to the ways of the boundary condition imposition.

  • A voice coil actuator with moving coil type for scanning mirror system of barcode reader has been developed. The actuator has a simple structure including a magnet, a coil and a pin. The performance of the actuator is analyzed by a linearized theoretical model. And the dynamic performance of the proposed actuator is predicted through motor constant and restoring constant obtained by finite element simulations. The theoretical model was verified by the prototype which has 64 Hz resonance frequency and 60 deg reflecting angle. We also discovered that that 3 V input can make the actuator rotate over 61.8 deg reflecting angle at 50 Hz resonance frequency. The proposed actuator can simplify its driving configuration because of its implementation of open-loop control.

  • High performance packages must have a minimum insertion loss and return loss. In this paper, we design a millimeter-wave ceramic package using LTCC (Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic) technology to satisfy excellent transmission characteristics and characterize in a frequency range from DC to 30 GHz using the FEM (Finite Element Method) calculation. From these calculation results, the designed feed-through structure achieved 0.32 dB, 16.8 dB of the insertion loss and the return loss at 30 GHz respectively. This designed ceramic package will be useful for MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) modules.

  • A crawler crane, which consists of a lattice boom, a driving system, and a movable vehicle, is widely used on construction sites. The crawler crane often traverses rough terrain at these sites; as a result, an overload limiter needs to be installed on the crane to prevent it from overturning and breaking. In this paper, we studied the distributed load change in relation to boom length and the angle of rotation of the roller that comes in direct contact with the grounded track shoe. First, we developed a 3D model of a crawler crane and meshed it for finite elements. Then, we performed finite element analysis to derive the load on the roller. Finally, we graphed and examined the roller distributed load data of the case according to boom length and rotation angle. By detecting the load on the roller of the crawler crane, we can predict the potential for the crane to overturn before it happens.

  • This paper presents a new approach regarding thermal characteristics associated with a design of the high efficiency motor. Electrical conduction materials, such as coil and aluminum embedded in the core generate high heat exerting negative influence on both lifetime and performance of machine. Thus, it is necessary to design high efficiency motor considering heat transfer in order to improve motor performance and to be protected against overheating. In this paper, firstly, numerical analysis of electromagnetic field is carried out by the nonlinear transient finite element method (FEM). Secondly, the linear static FEA of magneto-thermal field is implemented by applying source current computed by the nonlinear transient analysis. FE results are validated in terms of electromagnetics and heat transfer by experiments. And then, the pseudo-transient topology optimization using a multi-objective function is performed. The proposed method is applied to a squirrel cage single-phase induction motor of the scroll compressor.
