  • In this research uses a predetermined initial weight vectors of 1-dimensional string, gives the systematic input vector whose position best matches obstacles, and trains the weight vectors such that neurons within the activity bubble are moved toward or reverse the input vector. According to simulation results one can conclude that the modified neural network is useful tool for the global path planning problem of a mobile robot.

  • A major concern for Autonomous Military Robot in the rough terrain is the problem of moving robot from an initial configuration to goal configuration. In this paper, We generate a local path to looking for the best route to move an goal configuration while avoiding known obstacle from world model, not violating the mobility constraints of robot. Trough a Simulator for Unmanned Autonomous Vehicle, We can simulate a traversability of unmanned autonomous vehicle based on steering, acceleration, braking command obtained from local path planning.

  • This paper describes a global path planning method and path optimization algorithm for autonomous mobile robot based on the virtual elastic force in a grid map environment. A goal of a path planning is information for a robot to go its goal point from start point by a effective way. The AStar algorithm is a well-known method for a grid based path planning. This paper suggest a path optimization method by a virtual elastic force and compare the algorithm with a orignal AStar method. The virtual elastic force makes a shorter and smoother path. It is a profitable algorithm to optimize a path in a grid environment.

  • Global path planning for autonomous driving of unmanned ground vehicle is essential. When setting global path planning, its accuracy and effectiveness is increased if useful information such as terrain type of driving route has been reflected on global path planning. As a method to reflect the terrain type, there is a method to perform global path planning by applying the weight to each terrain type. At this time, how to assign appropriate weights corresponding to the terrain type is more important than anything. In this paper, we proposed a method to determine the weight for terrain type that may affect the results of global path planning. Moreover, we presented effective operation method and design results(GUI) to check the possibility of the use of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a new user interface for unmanned combat vehicle(UCV) is developed based on the mission planning and global path planning. In order to complete a tactical mission given to an UCV, it is essential to design an effective interface scheme between human and UCV considering changing combat environment and characteristics of the mission. The user interface is mainly composed of two parts, mission planning and global path planning, since they are important factors to accomplish combat missions. First of all, mission types of UCV are identified. Based on mission types, the concept of mission planning for UCVs is presented. Then a new method for global path planning is devised. It is capable of dealing with multiple grid maps to consider various combat factors so that paths suitable for the mission be generated. By combining these two, a user interface method is suggested. It is partially implemented in the Dog-horse Robot of ADD and its effectiveness is verified.

  • To guide the guiding robot for the visually impaired carefully, the digital map to be used to search a path must be detailed and has some information about dangerous spots. It also has to search not only safe but also short path through the position data by GPS and INS sensors. In this paper, as the difference of the ability that the visually unpaired can recognize, we have developed the localization tracking system so that it can make a movement path and verify position information, and the global navigation system for the visually impaired using the GPS and INS. This system can be used when the visually impaired move short path relatively. We had also verified that the system was able to correct the position as the assistant navigation system of the GPS on the outside.

  • This paper deals with a safe climbing path planning for unmanned automatic vehicles. Unlike the existing path planning schemes, the safety is the highest priority for our approach. To achieve this, the global potential field which includes a dangerous zone as well a given terrain information is generated, and the way-points are determined by using image processing such as the erosion operation. The proposed method can reduce the computation effort and the amount of information, and provide the safe climbing path which is similar to human's intuition.

  • In this paper, we present a new method to generate obstacle-free path by using conformal mapping, when avatar navigates in virtual environment. First, we show that the proposed method generates a path to keep away from a circular obstacle. Then, we show that the method can be extended to an elliptical obstacle and multiple obstacles. For real applications, we combine the proposed local method with a global navigation method using sub-target to generate a global obstacle-free path by which avatar navigates naturally in virtual environment.
