The demands for specially trained hemodialysis nurses are increasing as the population requiring maintenance hemodialysis expands. However, there has been no standardized training program for hemodialysis nurses in South Korea. The study was conducted to develop and evaluate a hemodialysis nurse educational program (HNEP). The effects of education using the HNEP were assessed by levels of hemodialysis-specific knowledge, self-efficacy and satisfaction. A total of 25 registered nurses participated in the HNEP which consists of 20 week education (classroom theory for 10 weeks and clinical practice for 10 weeks) between April and September, 2011. Knowledge levels were compared before and after the HNEP using paired t-test. Self-efficacy and satisfaction levels were also evaluated after the program using a scale of 1-5, 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. Knowledge levels were significantly increased after the HNEP (Mean=13.96 vs. 17.80, t=-7.748, p=<.001). Self-efficacy and satisfaction levels with the program were high, $3.90{\pm}0.42$ and $4.02{\pm}0.77$, respectively. These findings suggest that the HNEP improved hemodialysis-specific knowledge, and levels of self-efficacy and satisfaction with the HNEP were reasonably, among the participants.
Purpose: This study is to explore the relationships among spirituality, death anxiety and burnout level of nurses caring for cancer patients. Methods: Participants were 210 nurses from a cancer hospital in Seoul. Data were collected from April until June 2012 and analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The mean score for spirituality was 3.51 out of six. Among sub-categories, the one that scored the highest was the purpose and meaning of life, followed by unifying interconnectedness, inner resources and transcendence. The mean score for death anxiety was 3.22, and the sub-categories in the order of high score were denial of death, awareness of the shortness of time, pure death anxiety and fear of matters related to death. For the burnout, the mean was 4.10. Among sub-categories, highest mark was found with emotional exhaustion, followed by depersonalization and personal accomplishment. The spirituality level was negatively correlated with those of death anxiety and burnout. Death anxiety was positively correlated with burnout levels. Nurses with the higher spirituality level also had a higher level of education and experience of spiritual education, believed in the existence of God. In contrast, death anxiety and burnout levels were higher among those with a lower level of education, atheists, and for those who answered that religion has little influence on life. Conclusion: Thus, it is necessary to provide spiritual interventions for nurses who care for cancer patients to develop their spirituality, reduce death anxiety and prevent them from burning out easily.

This study examined the nurse's emotional exhaustion and influencing factors, and the relationship between emotional burnout and hospital nursing workload using multilevel logistic regression analysis. The study subjects were 3,083 nurses of 65 hospitals, who participated in the training conducted by the Healthcare Industry Trade Union in 2010 and responded to the questionnaire. First, 71.6% of nurses experienced emotional exhaustion, and the average score of emotional exhaustion was 33.53. Second, the 'non - nursing work experience' showed a significant effect on emotional exhaustion. Third, the 'sufficient nursing staff' variable increased the emotional exhaustion. Fourth, the nursing grades were correlated significantly with emotional exhaustion compared to those with more than four beds per nurse. Fifth, in the case of working in the internal ward, the shorter the clinical career, the higher the emotional exhaustion. In other words, higher emotional exhaustion was associated with more nursing work experience, more perceived insufficient nursing staff, more nurses per bed, the department of internal medicine, and a shorter clinical career.
There is a system in Korea named "Advanced Practice Nurse System" qualified by the Minister of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs for Advanced Practice Nurse besides nurse licence. Medical practice is, in today's medical law, understood as a general concept colligating medical practice, nursing practice and midwife practice and so on, for it is defined as a deed of medical technique practiced by medical personnel. Referring to the fact that the Supreme Court recognizes medical personnel as people who have medical expert knowledge, nursing practice can be recognized as a region of medical business and therefore it is not necessary to prescribe nursing practice separately from the definition of medical practice on a precedent, because nurse belongs to medical personnel. According to the precedent regarding 'Unlicensed Medical Practice of Advanced Practice Nurse for Anesthesia' recently sentenced by the Supreme Court, the medical practice is only allowed a doctor because it is 'in need of special knowledge and experience because of high danger on human body' and it is judged to be an unlicensed medical practice prohibited in medical law if it is to be done by a nurse. When considering the actual situation that System for Advanced Practice Nurse for Anesthesia is established under the circumstance that an anesthetist is in want and therefore the operation has not been performed on time, and that it is being expected an anesthetist to be in need, it is necessary to legislate for the range of medical practice of Advanced Practice Nurse so that Advanced Practice Nurse System can be practically legalized, for the role of Advanced Practice Nurse has the great possibility of shrinking because the precedent has considered Advanced Practice Nurse for Anesthesia doing anesthetic operation in clinic today as a potential wrongdoer.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify nursing professional values and job satisfaction depending on the types of personality in visiting nurses. Methods: Two hundred twenty six visiting nurses participated in this study. Data collection was conducted in 26 Public Health Centers in Korea. The Korean version of the Enneagram nursing professional values and job satisfaction was used to measure the nursing professional values and job satisfaction. Results: The most common personality is type 9, a center of the Instinctive Center where energy tends to stress outwards. There was a significant difference in nursing professional values depending on the type of personality. The type 1, 2 and type 9 had a significant difference by depending on the type of personality. There was but no difference in job satisfaction. There was a negative correlation between nursing professional values and job satisfaction by depending on the type of personality. The nurses with the type 9 and type 1 of personality showed a significant differences with the negative correlation between professional values and job satisfaction. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed the necessity of a self-understanding program to improve the working efficiency by increasing the professional values and job satisfaction of visiting nurses.

Purpose: The study was undertaken to investigate effects of decision making competency, nursing professionalism and job satisfaction on turnover impulse, and identify factors contributing to turnover impulse among nurses. Methods: The study was a descriptive study with 231 nurses from 4 general tertiary hospitals participating. Data were collected during March, 2013 using a structured self-report questionnaire. Decision making competency, nursing professionalism, and job satisfaction were measured with validated instruments, and turnover impulse was measured with one question using a 5-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression. Results: The significant predictors of turnover impulse among nurses were professionalism (${\beta}$=-0.18, p=.015) and job satisfaction (${\beta}$=-0.18, p=.009). These variables explained 12% of the variance in turnover impulse among nurses. Conclusion: The results indicate that nursing managers need to put efforts in improving nurses' job satisfaction and to develop plans to increase nursing professionalism in order to reduce nurses' turnover impulse.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the role and the certification system for nurses working in HIV/AIDS care among the U.S., the UK, and Japan. Method: The searching for the internet website and literature was used and visiting the institutes and interviewing the key informants were done from August, 2006 to February, 2007. Results: In the U.S., there are two types of nurse specialist in HIV/AIDS care. One is the HIV/AIDS Certified Registered Nurse which is without any academic degree requirement, and the other is the Advanced HIV/AIDS Certified Registered Nurse which requires master level degree and 5 years career. There are three level of nurses' role in HIV/AIDS care in the UK. Also, the National HIV Nurses Association of the UK developed generic competencies and specialist competencies according to this three level of nurse's role. In the case of Japan, the certification system is not formalized yet, but the AIDS coordinator nurses are working as a specialist in the Japan International Medical Center. Conclusion: Based on this result, it is suggested that the comprehensive role of nurses in HIV/AIDS should be developed under the governmental support.
The purpose of this study was to develop the certification system, analyze the job profile of occupational health nurses, plan the education program and suggest the political recommendations. Many materials of KAOHN (Korean Association of Occupational Health Nurses) were collected and analyzed and many times of meetings and workshops were held to coordinate the various opinions from related organizations. The results were as follows; 1. The certification of occupational health nurse will be available to the nurses who have the careers more than three years, graduate the education program for certified occupational health nurse, and pass the certified occupational health nurse examination. 2. Two types of education program will be needed, one will be the one-year program for diploma nurses and the other will be master program for baccalaureate nurses. 3. The plan was made for 2000 occupational health nurses to be certified by 2010. By 2007, annually 200 occupational health nurses will graduate from one-year program and 40 occupational health nurses will graduate from master program. After than, 260 occupational health nurses will graduate from master program and 40 or 80 occupational health nurses will graduate from one-year program. 4. To facilitate the usage and motivation of certified occupational health nurse, political recommendations were suggested; revision of the related laws and regulations, the incentives for employers, and financial supports for the certified occupational health nurse educations by the government.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the nurses' needs in the general hospitals as a basic study to develop ICU clinical nurse from Aug. 3 to Sept. 26 1998 at 13 general or university hospitals that have ICU nurse training course and are accredited at KNA. The subjects of study were ICU nurses and nurse managers at the department of nursing. The questionnaire items were developed from literature review, interviews with 30 ICU nurses at an university hospital in Pusan. The results were as follows : The subjects of study educated in ICU nurse training course were 44.3% of total. The 93.1% responded the necessity of ICU CNS and 89.1% wanted to have ICU CNS certification. The 43.8% answered that ICU should be a center of CNS education and 32.0% answered the department of nursing. Most of subjects responded that the clinical experience of ICU should be needed prior to CNS education. Regarding the treatment of ICU CNS, the 34.2% of total subjects responded it would be suitable to pay additional allowance and the 28.3% answered to grade-up salary step, and then the 13.7% to promote level position. Concerning the assignment department, the 63.5% answered that the charge nurse would be proper than general nurse or head nurse. As to the working time of ICU CNS, the 93.2% responded that D-duty is needed, the 79.5% to E-duty and the 64.4% to N-duty. It is suggested that the consensus of ICU nurses for the concept, the role and the system of ICU CNS is needed.

Most human behaviors are based on self-perceptual image. Subjectivity in professional nursing image is shown in their opinions, beliefs, values, and attitudes of professional nursing and it helps to understand individual's behavior. This study was initiated to find the characteristics and patterns in subjectivity of hospital nurses' professional nursing image. The Data were collected from Apr. 20 to Aug. 22, 1996. The research method employed Q-methodology which is based on self-psychology and abductive logics. Analysis of Q-type obtained by QUANL pc program. The characteristics of professional nursing image was analyzed based on the typal array, extreme comments, and the subject's demographic information. The results revealed that there are three different types on the professional nursing image. The three types were named as follows : The first type, the Improvable, consisting of 6 subjects, preferentially perceived nursing is human behavior as life process, coordinating with other health personnel for the patients as nurses' important role. On the other hand, they are taking a little dissatisfied view of professional nursing image, which can be estimated to advance for the construction of the professional nursing image. The second type, the Self-conflicted, consisting of 13 subjects, who have the subjectivity of the image by focusing on external and environmental factors rather than developing positive individual nurses' image for their profession. They have very conflic-ting and self-degrading traits. The third type, the Affirmative, consisting of 10 subjects, who appreciate the essence of nursing, and that they highly perceived nurse' positive attitude, devotion, mature interrelationship and self-developing efforts etc. In conclusion, this study discovers three types on the professional nursing image and their relationship. By identifying the nature of three types, this study suggests that the results should be useful reinforcement tool in educating nursing students as well as in continuing education for hospital nurses.
