This paper proposes an operational algorithm for a Photovoltaic Power-Hardware-In-Loop Simulator that is designed to improve the control algorithm and reliability of the PV Inverter. There was an instability problem in the PV PHILS with the conventional algorithm when it was connected tothe PV inverter. Initially, a real-time based computing unit with mathematical modeling of the PV array is implemented and a DC amplifier and an isolated device for DC power measurement are integrated. Several experiments were performed based on theabove concept undercertain conditions, which showed that the proposed algorithm is more effective for the PV characteristic test and grid evaluation test than the conventional method.

For the transition to the low carbon society, it is inevitable but difficult journey that the new energy technology spread co-exists with formal social system. The objective of offshore wind power plant that has been implemented by the government is to connect large capacity new renewable energy to the central electric power system. Therefore, for the successful introduction of offshore wind power system, the transition of the formal social technology system should be companied. This study analysis the energy system transition about niche strategy adjustment using Multiple Level Perspectives & Strategic Niche Management. It also multi level analyzes and structuralizes the process that new technology, as a research result, evolves through connecting and communicating with formal regime and landscape. Also, adjusting Strategic Niche Management, it diagnoses the obstructive factors in the initial stage of niche experiment and found the major reasons why offshore wind power test plant had been delayed. Through this study, it reaches to the practical implication that offshore niche technology could grow stably in the energy system and various policies.
The effect of change in DFIG (doubly-fed wind power generator) rotating speed and active power on the grid was analyzed to understand the characteristics of wind power using the wind power simulator connected to the grid at Gochang Power Quality Test Center. Electric power quality improvement devices (DVR, STATCOM, SSTS) and electric power quality disturbance application devices for 22.9 kV grid are equipped at Gochang Power Quality Test Center. Induction motor and VVVF inverter were used to emulate the blade of a wind power generator, and a simulator for Cage wound induction generator and DFIG was developed. The trial line were assumed to be 20 km and 40 km in length, and variable wind speed pattern was set using wind speed data from Ducjeokdo to verify the power characteristics of the wind power generator according to rotating speed.

The paper addresses modeling and analysis of a grid-connected photovoltaic generation system (PV system). PSCAD/EMTDC, an industry standard simulation tool for studying the transient behavior of electric power system and apparatus, is used to conduct all aspects of model implementation and to carry out extensive simulation study. This paper is aimed at sharing with the PSCAD/EMTDC user community our user-defined model for PV system applications, which is not yet available as a standard model within PSCAD/EMTDC. An equivalent circuit model of a solar cell has been used for modeling solar array. A series of parameters required for array modeling have been estimated from general specification data of a solar module. A PWM voltage source inverter (VSI) and its current control scheme have been implemented. A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is employed for drawing the maximum available energy from the PV array. Comprehensive simulation results are presented to examine PV array behaviors and PV system control performance in response to irradiation changes. In addition, dynamic responses of PV array and system to network fault conditions are simulated and analysed.

The empirical evaluation of grid-connected tidal current generation system is presented in this paper. The Ul-dol-mok in Jin-do has been estimated to have tidal power of 1GW. In order to experiment, HAT (Horizontal Axis Turbine) 3-blade and 20kW grid-connected tidal current generation system was established at Ul-dol-mok in Jin-do. To generate power of generator, the speed reference of the PMSG is generated from the Cp curve and TSR (Tip Speed Ratio) of the designed turbine. The control of the converter connected to the grid is controlled to regulate unity power factor. The result showed that the turbine efficiency and system efficiency is 37 % and 31 %. This was achieved that target rate is 30 %, 20 %, respectively.

This paper presents a single-phase grid connected voltage-ed inverter with a power decoupling circuit. In the single-phase grid connected voltage-ed inverter, it is well known that a power pulsation with twice the grid frequency is contained in the input power. In a conventional voltage type inverter, electrolytic capacitors with large capacitance have been used in order to smooth the DC voltage. However, lifetime of those capacitors is shortened by the power pulsation with twice grid frequency. The authors have been studied a active power decoupling(APD) method that reduce the pulsating power on the input DC bus line, this enables to transfer the ripple energy appeared on the input DC capacitors into the energy in a small film capacitor on the additional circuit. Hence, extension of the lifetime of the inverter can be expected because the small film capacitor substitutes for the large electrolytic capacitors. Finally, simulation and experimental results are discussed.

To improve the power quality of distributed generation (DG) systems even in the presence of distorted grid condition, dual current control scheme of a grid-connected inverter is proposed. The proposed current control scheme is achieved by decomposing the inverter state equations into the fundamental and harmonic components. The derived models are employed to design dual current controllers. The conventional PI decoupling current controller is used in the fundamental model to control the main power flow in DG systems. At the same time, the predictive control is applied in the harmonic model to suppress undesired harmonic currents to zero quickly. To decompose the voltage inputs and state variables into the fundamental and harmonic components, the fourth order band pass filter (BPF) is designed in the discrete-time domain for a digital implementation. For experimental verification, 2kVA prototype of a grid-connected inverter has been constructed using digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320F28335. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is demonstrated through comparative simulation and experimental results.

The renewable resource are getting more attentions with increased concerns on the depletion of fossil fuels and several environmental issues like emission problem. Wind power is a representative option among several renewable sources and the generation capacity using wind power is being increased. However, the wind generation is so volatile on its output characteristic, so it is required to assess the grid impact of wind power generation by measuring the fluctuation effect more precisely. This paper proposes the method for measuring the generation output according to IEC 61400-21(Measurement and assessment of power quality characteristics of grid connected wind turbines) to assess the power quality of wind turbine generation. In addition, it shows an application case to a small-scale wind power generator. In the case study, it suggests a structure design of the proposed measurement instrument both on hardware and software aspects, which is composed of a remote monitoring & data analysis program and an FPGA based real-time signal processing device.

During the last years, there has been an increased interest in the new energy such as photovoltaic(PV) system from the viewpoint of environmental pollution. In this regard, this paper estimates the power quality of grid-connected PV system. As the maximum power operating point(MPOP) of photovoltaic(PV) power systems alters with changing atmospheric conditions, the efficiency of maximum power point tracking(MPPT) is important in PV power systems. Moreover, grid-connected PV system occurs some problems such as voltage inequality and harmonics. Therefore, this paper presents the results of a grid-connected PV system modeling that contains incremental conductance MPPT controller by PSCAD/EMTDC simulator and investigates the influence that can occur in the grid-connected PV system from aspect of power quality, i.e. voltage drop, total harmonic distortion(TDD) and total demand distortion(TDD). For the case study, the measured data of the PV way in Cheongwadae, Seoul, Korea is used.

General solar street light system needs two separate power supply for charging the battery and driving LED Lamp. In this study, one power supply is used for both charging battery and driving LED lamp. In particular, in order to increase the efficiency of the equipment, (maximum power point tracking: MPPT) was applied which is widely adopted in grid-connected solar systems. LED driver embodied using current control routine of charger into Essential constant current system.
