  • As a part of a research program to study the shear reinforcement of flat plate system, this investigation aimed to determine the effect of shear reinforcement type on punching shear strength of monolithic slab-column connection. A total of 5 specimens were fabrication and tested. The dimension of the slab were $2.63{\ast}2.725{\ast}0.18m$, with a centrally located column $0.6{\ast}0.8m$ in cross section. Experimental results showed that the CFS shear reinforcement was not effective because of lack of proper bond with concrete. 3 shear reinforcement except of CFS showed high effectiveness, which resulted in a considerable increment of the punching shear resistance of the connection.

  • This paper is to study on the behavior of CFT column to H-beam end plate connections with penetrated high-strength bolts under cyclic load. The main parameters are as follows: 1) the thickness of end plate: 16mm, 22mm and 25mm, 2) the thickness of column : 9mm and 12mm. Comparison and analysis on the test results are performed in accordance with parameters. This study investigates energy absorption capacity of beam-column connections and analyzes the shear strength of joint panel. The shear strength of joint panel is estimated by superimposing the strength of the steel which is based on the von Mises yield criterion and that of the concrete which is used the Strut model to consider the effect of filled concrete.

  • Exterior plate-column connection has an unsymmetrical critical section for eccentric shear of which perimeter is less than that of interior connection, and hence, around the connection, unbalanced moment and eccentric shear are developed by both gravity load and lateral loads. Therefore, exterior connection is susceptible to punching shear failure. Current design provision cannot accurately explain strength of existing experiments, partly due to the complexity in the behavior of exterior plate-column connection, or partly due to the theoretical deficiency of the strength analysis model adopted. In the present study, nonlinear finite element analyses were performed for exterior connections belonging to continuous flat plate. For each direction of lateral load, the behavior and strength of exterior plate-column connection were quite different. Based on the numerical result, strength prediction model for exterior connection was proposed for each direction of lateral load. Compared with existing experiments, the proposed method was verified.

  • The primary purpose of this study is to investigate punching shear capacity of flat plate slab using high strength concrete in column. It may be much contributed to economy efficiency and structural advantages that High Strength Concrete(HSC) used for vertical member and Normal Strength Concrete(NSC) for horizontal member. Therefore, six plate flat slab specimens with HSC column and NSC slab had been made and tested with real scale. The major variables were compressive strength of concrete(fck=285, $460kgf/cm^2$), extended length of HSC from column face and amount of shear reinforcements. As the result of this test, the maximum load and punching shear capacity of specimens is affected by extended length and shear reinforcements.

  • Flat plate structures subjected to lateral load have less deformability than conventional moment frames, due to the brittle failure of plate-column connection. In the present study, parametric study using nonlinear finite element analysis was performed to investigate the deformability of flat plates. The numerical results show that as number of continuous spans increases, the deformability of flat plates considerably decreases. Therefore, existing experiments using sub-assemblages with 1 or 2 spans may overestimate the deformability of flat plates, and current design provisions based on the experiments may not be accurate in estimating the deformability. A design method estimating the deformability was developed on the basis of numerical results, and verified by comparison with existing experiment. In the proposed method, the effects of primary design parameters such as direct shear force, punching shear capacity, aspect ratio of connection, number of spans, and initial stiffness of plate can be considered.

  • The failure modes of steel column-base plate connection arranged on the basis of AISC Design Guide-#1 and -#10 are base plate tension and compression side flexural yielding, yielding, pull-out and shear failure of anchor rod, concrete crushing in concrete footing and steel column yielding. The bending moment capacity and failure mode in this connection are predicted using limit-state function and we compare these results and test result. In the case that thickness of base plate is relatively thick, bending moment capacity and failure mode in steel column-base plate connection accurately predicted. But in the case that thickness of base plate is relatively thin and axial force do not exist, prediction of failure mode in this connection is somewhat inaccurate.

  • Cross sections of steel-plate girder bridges are divided into three cross sections of non-composite, partially composite, and fully composite sections, according to their composite characteristics. The Korean provision for the partially and fully composite sections specifies general usage of the stud of shear connectors, whereas the one for the non-composite section specifies empirical usage of slab anchors. However, the actual behavior of the cross sections of steel-plate girder bridges using slab anchors is close not to the non-composite action, but to the partially composite action. Therefore analytical and experimental studies on partial composites of steel-plate girder bridges using slab anchors are performed in this study. Intial stiffness of the slab anchor is obtained by the experimental study for the first time, and the composite characteristic of simple-span and two-span continuous steel-plate girder bridges is investigated by the finite element analyses for the second time. Based on the obtained initial stiffness, the reduction effect of tensile stresses in the concrete-slab on the intermediate support of the continuous bridge is also considered herein.

  • This study evaluates the seismic performance of post-tensioned(PT) flat plate frames with or without slab bottom reinforcement. For this purpose, 3 and 9 story PT flat plate frames designed only considering gravity loads. This study conducts a nonlinear static pushover analysis. This study use an analytical model which is able to represent punching shear failure and fracture mechanism. The analytical results showed that seismic performance of PT flat plate frame is strongly influenced by the existence of slab bottom reinforcement through column. By placing slab bottom reinforcement in PT flat plate frame, lateral strength and deformation capacity are significantly increased.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of the composite slabs with the new metal deckplate. The new deckplate can be used as structural member with topping concrete. So several experiments of this structural test and the fire resistance test were done. From this experiments. slabs with new metal deckpklate were verified as composite slabs. In this paper, this verifications were compared with the international design methods. For experiment. 49 specimens were made. the main parameters are deckplate thickness (1.2mm. 1.6mm) depth of topping concrete(85mm. 90mm). support condition(simple, 2-span), shear reinforcment(studs), span(2.7m, 3.0m, 3.3m. 3.6m. 3.9m) and shear span(L/3, L/4, L/7). We analyzed the structural behavior of composite slab throughout the moment-curvature relationship which is obtained with the program using the computer language. Turbo C. From this development for slab system, the reinforced concrete or steel structure building may be easy, economical for construction, And informations about the structural behavior of composite slabs will be utilized to established korea standard.

  • The advantages of composite construction are now well understood in terms of structural economy, good performance in service, and ease of construction. However, these conventional composite construction systems have some problems in application to steel framed buildings due to their large depth. So, in this study we executed an experimental test with the "Slim Floor"system which could reduce the overall depth of composite beam. Slim Floor system is a method of steel frame multi-story building construction in which the structural depth of each floor is minimized by incorporating the steel floor beams within the depth of the concrete floor slab. Presented herein is an experimental study that focuses on the flexural behaviour of the partially connected slim floor system with asymmetric steel beams encased in composite concrete slabs. Eight full-scale specimens were constructed and tested in this study with different steel beam height, slab width, with or without shear connection and concrete topping thickness. Observations from experiments indicated that the degree of shear connection without additional shear connection was $0.53{\sim}0.95$ times that of the full shear connection due to inherent mechnical and chemical bond stress.
