In this study, the shear wave velocity of the ground was measured using Flat TDR, and the precision analysis of the measured value and the verification of field applicability were performed. The shear wave velocity measurement value was derived in the field using the piezo-stack combined in the Flat TDR. analyzed. As a result of the experiment, the average value of the change in shear wave speed at the time of grout material injection was 10.15 m/s at the beginning of age, and the average value of the change in shear wave speed after the 7th to 14th days was 65.99 m/s, showing a tendency to increase with age. Also, it was found that dry density and shear wave speed increased as the water content increased on the dry side, and that the dry density and shear wave rate decreased as the water content increased on the wet side as the water content increased. The shear modulus value derived from the field test was confirmed to be a minimum of 17.36 MPa and a maximum of 28.13 MPa, confirming a measurement value similar to the reference value. Through this, it can be seen that the measured value of the shear modulus using Flat TDR is reliable data, and it can be determined that the compaction management of the site can be effectively managed in the future.
Measurements in two adjacent (about 1.5 m separation) boreholes reveal that there is a significant degree of variations in the width and property (permeability) of shear zones in the granitic rock. A high frequency (>10 kHz) cross-well seismic tomography was conducted to characterize the features of permeability distribution at the shear zones in the inter-well region. At the shear zones, the correlation between the permeability at the well location and the velocity pattern shown in the cross-well velocity tomogram suggests that a high resolution velocity tomogram may provide useful information for the shear zone characteristics, such as permeability, fracture density, width, and length.

The simulation of the field dynamic soil properties for soil modeling in the centrifuge test is important. In this study, the process of soil modeling based on the shear wave velocity profile is developed. From the resonant column test in each confining pressure, the shear wave velocity profile is expected and the modeling condition is determined by comparing it with that in the field. During the dynamic centrifuge test, the bender element test is performed for measuring the in-flight shear wave velocity profile, and the applicability of the proposed method was verified. This modeling method is applied to the centrifuge test of the Hualien Large-Scale Seismic test.

This study presents the experimental results of $CaCO_3$ formation in sand by the Enzyme Induced Carbonate Precipitation (EICP) method. Concentration of $CaCO_3$ with elapsed reaction time is calibrated by standardized procedure by measuring $CO_2$ pressure, and it increases with time towards asymptotic value. Jumunjin sand saturated with EICP solution shows that both shear wave velocity and electrical conductivity sharply increase as the reaction starts to approach to the constant values after 50 hours of reaction time. Urease concentration of 0.5 g/L exhibits 224% higher final shear wave velocity than that of 0.1 g/L. The nucleation models hint that carbonate tends to precipitate not only at grain contacts but also at grain surfaces. Regardless of urease concentration, electrical conductivity and shear wave velocity follow the unique path. The scanning electron microscopic images and X-ray computed tomographic images validate the spatial configuration of produced $CaCO_3$ in soils.
The evaluation of earthquake load on the surface is very important factor for the seismic reinforcement of existing building, and the magnitude of earthquake load depends on a shear wave velocity profile of soil under a building. To determine a shear wave velocity profile under a existing building, test method should be able to determine a reliable shear wave velocity profile under conditions such as heavy background noise and the small test area, and be sensitive to the variation of material property. In this research, HWAW (Harmonic Wavelet Analysis of Waves) method is applied to determine a shear wave velocity profile under a existing building. In this paper, through numerical simulations and field tests, the feasibility of the proposed method was shown.

Shear wave velocity($V_S$), which can be obtained using various seismic tests, has been emphasized as representative geotechnical dynamic characteristic mainly for seismic design and seismic performance evaluation in the engineering field. For the application of conventional geotechnical site investigation techniques to geotechnical earthquake engineering, standard penetration tests(SPT) and piezocone penetration tests(CPTu) together with a variety of borehole seismic tests were performed at many sites in Korea. Through statistical modeling of the in-situ testing data, in this study, the correlations between $V_S$ and geotechnical in-situ penetrating data such as blow counts(N value) from SPT and piezocone penetrating data such as tip resistance ($q_t$), sleevefriction($f_s$), and pore pressure ratio($B_q$) were deduced and were suggested as an empirical method to determine $V_S$. Despite the incompatible strain levels of the conventional geotechnical penetration tests and the borehole seismic tests, it is shown that the suggested correlations in this study are applicable to the preliminary estimation of $V_S$ for Korean soil layers.

The mean shear wave velocity to the depth of 30 m (Vs30) derived from the western Vs is the current site classification criterion for determining the design seismic ground motion taking into account the site amplification potential. In order to evaluate the Vs30 at a site, a shear wave velocity (Vs) Profile extending to at least 30 m in depth must be acquired from in-situ seismic test. In many cases, however, the resultant depth of the Vs profile may not extend to 30 m, owing to the unfavorable field condition and the limitation of adopted testing techniques. In this study, the Vs30 and the mean shear wave velocity to a depth shallower, than 30 m (VsDs) were computed from the Vs profiles more than 30 m in depth obtained by performing various seismic tests at total 72 sites in Korea, and a correlation between Vs30 and VsDs was drawn based on the computed mean Vs data. In addition, a method for extrapolating the Vs profile from shallow depth to 30 m was developed by building a shape curve based on the average data of all Vs profiles. For evaluating the Vs30 from the shallow Vs profiles, both the methods using VsDs and shape curve result in less bias than the simplest method of extending the lowermost Vs equally to 30 m in depth, and are usefully applicable particularly in the cases of the Vs profiles extending to at least 10 m in depth.
Surface wave techniques were initially based on 2-D plane waves and were later improved to the techniques based the 3-D based cylindrical waves. However, body-wave interference, near-field effect and limited technology in surface wave measurements restricted the use of 3-D cylindrical waves to the 1-D evaluation of subgrade stiffness. In this study, by the numerical simulation of SASW measurements, the dispersion properties of surface waves including vertical, horizontal Rayleigh waves and Love waves were thoroughly investigated in the 3-D domain, and a new filter criteria to minimize the near-field effect was established, which led to CAP (common-array-profiling)-SASW technique. The CAP-SASW technique enabled the evaluation of subgrade stiffness fur a specific subgrade segment, not for a whole section of measurement array. Therefore, a contour plot of subgrade stiffness with a ground-truth quality can be obtained by the CAP-SASW technique. The procedure proposed in this study was verified by comparing the shear-wave velocity profiles with the shear-wave velocity profiles of downhole testing at two geotechnical sites.
In this study, features of correlation between S-velocity and N value are derived from 9 suspension PS layers in Chungcheong Buk-do. S-velocity to be measured on Chungcheong Buk-do is classified into 5 as conditions of stratum that are ; cohesive soil layer, sandy soil layer, gravel layer, weathering soil layer, weathered rock layer. Each correlation formulas between N value by SPT and S-velocity is proposed from these classifications. And correlation formula for whole soil body except weathered rock layer also is proposed for reference. Corelation formulas developed this study formed square expression considering existing formulas produced internationally. Strength parameter converted to linear if N value is more than 50. Features of proposed formula which came up with comparative analysis of international result of cohesive soil layer and sandy soil layer and gravel layer show similar to existing ones. But there is deference that result of correlation formula for weathered rock layer is a little smaller than domestic formula's one. Because correlations of weathered rock layer above the N value of 50 is converted into a linear formation.
A basic assessment of techniques to mitigate the risk of blast shock waves from proximity explosions was conducted. Common existing techniques include using mitigant materials to form barriers around the explosive or in the direction of propagation of the shock wave. Various explosive energy dissipation mechanisms have been proposed, and research on blast shock wave mitigation utilizing impedance differences has drawn considerable interest. In this study, shear thickening fluid (STF) was applied as a blast mitigation material to evaluate the effectiveness of STF mitigation material on explosion shock wave mitigation through explosion experiments and numerical analysis. As a result, the effectiveness of the STF mitigant material in reducing the explosion shock pressure was verified.
