Photopolymerization of Methacrylic Acid with Phenylsilane

  • The bulk photopolymerization of methacrylic acid (MA) with phenylsilane was performed to produce poly(MA)s containing phenylsilyl moiety presumably as an end group. It was found that while the polymerization yields and intrinsic viscosities decreased, the TGA residue yields and the relative intensities of SiH IR stretching bands increased with increasing molar ratio of phenylsilane over MA. The phenylsilane seemed to significantly influence on the photopolymerization as both chain initiation and chain transfer agents.

  • 몰입형 가상현실 시스템은 더 나은 3차원 시각정보를 제공할 수 있어, 의료계에서 해부학에 대한 이해를 높이는 데 사용되고 있다. 우리는 몰입형 가상현실에서 다중 사용자가 함께 MRI 영상으로부터 생성된 볼륨 렌더링 된 객체를 관찰하고 수술을 계획할 수 있는 시스템을 개발하여 소개하고자 한다.

T2 후두 편평세포암종에서 단독 방사선치료와 항암방사선병합치료의 비교 연구 (The treatment outcome of T2 laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma in one institution with long term follow-up: Radiotherapy alone vs Chemoradiotherapy)

  • Background/Objectives: The efficacy of radiotherapy alone versus chemoradiotherapy has been studied in patients with T2N0M0 laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Materials & Methods: Thirty nine patients with newly diagnosed T2N0M0 laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma were treated with either radiotherapy(RT group, 66-70Gy) or chemoradiotherapy(CRT group, cisplatin based concurrent chemoradiation with or without 2 cycles induction chemotherapy including cisplatin, $5-FU{\pm}$ docetaxel / radiation therapy same with above mentioned). The mean follow-up was 73.5 months. Results: The overall survival (OS), disease specific survival (DSS), disease free survival (DFS), and larynx preservation survival (LPS) at 5 years were 70%, 79%, 67%, and 71%. The complete response rate was 82.4% in RT group, and was 95.5% in CRT group. OS (57% vs 80%), DSS (69% vs 86%), DFS (52% vs 77%), and LPS (63% vs 77%) at 5 years were higher in CRT group than RT group, but it was not statistically significant. In subsite analysis, CRT group tends to improve DFS, compared to RT group, in glottic cancer (p=0.06). The toxicities were tolerable and no fatal case was observed in both groups. Conclusion: Chemoradiotherapy is effective as primary therapy for T2 laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and showed manageable treatment induced toxicity.

Application of Cluster Distributions to Energy Transfer in Two-Dimensional Choleic Acid Crystals

  • The cluster distributions for different concentrations of 1,4-dibromonaphthalene (DBN) in 4,4'-dibromobenzophenone (DBBP)/1,4-dibromonaphthalene (DBN) choleic acid were determined by a computer simulation in order to model the energy transfer dynamics. The results of the simulation indicate that long range interaction between molecules further apart than nearest does not occur and energy transfer efficiency is restricted by single range interaction. The results also demonstrate that the trapping is diffusion limited. The energy transfer rate is reduced by a factor of 15 in DBBP/DBN choleic acid realtive to that in DBBP/DBN doped into polystyrene due to the larger distance between molecules.
