  • The harmonic current originated from electric cars will be cause of electromagnetic interference along adjacent communication cables and troubles with signaling. It will also cause overheating in power capacitor and malfuction in protection relay. Therefore, it brought actual measurement of harmonic current by each operation mode. Because the result exceeded the value prescribed by Korea Electric Power Corporation, we constructed facilities reducing harmonic current on overloaded part at each power supply station located in conventional line (Guro, Kyungsan, and Milyang) as an optimal alternative. Then, this study compared and analyzed the reducing effect before and after constructing facility.

  • The operation speed improvement of the train in electric railway must pursue continuously and need the investigation of whole railway system whole. The high-speed of the train is related to not only vehicle technique but also the infrastructure, signal system, operation technique, the trolley line and catenary, economical efficiency. Specially, in case of electric railway, we have to consider a technical investigation which is current collection efficiency improvement, voltage drop countermeasure, equipment capacity, track force, signal system. In this paper, we presents the technical investigation of AT feeder system in order to achieve high speed train in exist real railroad. We proved this approach which will use the whole domestic lines in the future.

  • This study was aimed at investigating the applicability of energy harvesting technologies, which are regarded as new and renewable energy sources for real-time/wireless monitoring of intelligent railroad vehicles. The surrounding energy generated in a normal operating environment was monitored using a high-speed railroad vehicle in operation. This monitoring was performed in an attempt to evaluate the effectives of energy harvesting and the applicability of energy-harvesting-monitoring technologies under the conditions in which thermal energy and vibration energy are generated.

  • In the braking of a railroad car, mechanical brake systems using wheel tread and brake disk are applied as well as electrical brake systems by regenerator and rheostat. During disk braking, kinetic energy of the vehicle is converted into thermal energy through friction between disk and brake pad. And it causes high temperature concentration and generates thermal crack on the brake disk surface. In this study, comparative test process for heat-resistance of candidate materials was designed for development of brake disk materials having high heat-resistance. We also verified the efficiency of the process by experiments using conventional brake disk materials.

  • Currently, vector control is used for speed control of trains because induction motor has high performance is installed in Electric railroad systems. Also, control of the induction motor is possible through various methods by developing inverters and control theory. Presently, rolling stocks which use the induction motor are possible to brake trains by using AC motor. Therefore model of motor block and induction motor is needed to adapt various methods. There is Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) as the control method of the induction motor. The torque and speed is controlled in the VVVF. The propulsion system model in the electric railroad has many sub-systems. So, the analysis of performance of the speed control is very complex. In this paper, simulation models are suggested by using Matlab/Simulink in the speed control characteristic. On the basis of the simulation models, the response to disturbance input is analyzed about the load. Also, the current, speed and flux control model are proposed to analyze the speed control characteristic in the train propulsion system.
