  • Caenorhabditis elegans (C.elegans) has various interesting behavioral properties, such as chemotaxis, thermotaxis, and electrotaxis. However, most previous research were only focused on single-stimulus for studying its behavioral properties. In this paper, we propose a simple and effective device for analyzing the behavior of C.elegans with combined stimuli, electric field and temperature. We compared and analyzed wild type worms (N2) and four mutant worms (tax-4, ttx-7, unc-54, unc-6). We analyzed the reaction of worms to certain stimulus and identified that this device is effective to apply a combined stimulus.

  • Functional Electrical Stimulation is the clinical application of a small electric current to the intact nerves of the body, in order to trigger a muscle contraction. This contraction is then incorporated into a functional activity, for example walling. A clear distinction needs to be made between therapeutic stimulation and functional stimulation. The former being of an exercise orientation, where one would relax while the stimulation works on its own. Functional electrical stimulation on the other hand, incorporates this elicited muscle movement into an everyday activity, like standing, walking, reaching out etc. But recently, New method used to FES which updated electrode insult in muscle and small nerve branch. A lot of new research build up many countries such as England, USA, Japan, Spain, Canada. So I had been write this paper for introduce new FES method, and I hope to more enhanced motivation of therapist for the functional electric stimulation.

  • To date, various clinical procedures have been used to restore periodontal apparatus destroyed by periodontal disease. And then, many experimental approaches have been proceeded to develop treatment methods to promote periodontal regeneration. Mechanical, chemical treatments to enhance the attachment of periodontal tissue cells as changing the physical properties of root surfaces, bone graft procedure, and treatments for guided tissue regeneration have been used for periodontal regeneration. However, recent studies have revealed that biologic factors such as growth factors promote biologic mechanism associated with periodontal regeneration. This study was done to enucleate how ELF stimulus affect the periodontal regeneration. We can have following conclusions from this experimental results. The influence of low frequency(ELF) electric stimulus (30Hz at $lO{\mu}A$) known to promote bone formation in vivo, was evaluated for its ability to affect bone cell function in vitro. After 12 hour exposure of ELF stimulus at most appropriate densities ($5{\times}10^4\;cells/cm^2$) to increase osteoblastic cells normally, rat calvarial cells were incubated for 60 hours were used in this study. We have found ELF stimulus suppress calvarial cell proliferation and the ability of protein synthesis, enhance the alkaline phosphatase activity significantly.

  • Cutaneous stimulation has had a long history as a method of pain control. While there is general agreement that modern techniques such as electrical stimulation and massage often provide relief from acute pain and may in some cases significantly affect chronic pain, the mechanism by which these techniques affect pain remain unclear. Significant attention has been focused on the effects of stimulation on the autonomic nervous system(ANS) along with the increasing evidence of important ANS modulation of nociceptive activity throughout the pain pathway. However, inconsistent results on the presence and direction of ANS changes from cutaneous stimulation characterize the recent literature. The present study investigated a non-electrical cutaneous stimulation device, the Dermapoints massage roller, as well as an active placebo massage. The results indicate that the Dermapoints massage roller has both general effects associated with simple skin stimulation (such as increased skin temperature), as well as specific effects from increased stimulation by the tooth design of the roller. These specific effects include decreased muscle tension (at least for some muscle sites) and increased sympathetic activation. The results are consistent with a model of activation of Pacinian receptors as a possible mechanism for the antinociceptive properties of cutaneous stimulation.

  • The term 'silent period(SP)' refers to a transitory, relative or absolute decrease electromyography(EMG) activity, evoked in the midst of an otherwise sustained contraction. Masseteric SP is elicited by a tap on the chin during isometric contraction of masseter muscle. In this paper, a new EMG signal generation model including SP in masseter muscle is proposed. This work is based on the anatomical structure of trigeminal nerve system that related on temporomandibular joint(TMJ) dysfunction. And it was verified by comparing the real EMG signals including SP in masseter muscle to the simulated signals by the proposed model. Through this studies, it was shown that SP has relation to variable neurophysiological phenomena. A proposed model is based on the control system theory and DSP(Digital Signal Processing) theory, and was simulated using MATLAB simulink. As a result, the proposed SP model generated EMG signals which are similar to real EMG signal including normal SP and an abnormal extended SP. This model can be applied to the diagnosis of TMJ dysfunction and can effectively explain the origin of extended SP.

  • I made the axon to the electrical transmission model and then constructed electrical equivalent model using Kirhhoff's current law and voltage law in this paper. I calculated various axon parameters in order to analyze the electrical potential hehavior versus minute distance chang of axon. The transmission velocity of unmyelinated nerve is proportional to square root of axon diameter, while that of myelinated nerve is directly proportional to its diameter. Because the transmission of myelin sheath is independent of voltage unlike unmyelinated sheath, the Hodgkin-Huxley model across the membrane is not so precise.
