  • The purpose of this study is to explore the factors that influence the choice of a major in a sample of 655 science students enrolled in 14 high schools. It was found that more than 80 percents of students had already chosen their desired majors by the second year of high school. Half intended to apply for medical colleges. The preference of medical colleges was more pronounced in high-ranking students. It was found that students who scored highly on career decision level assessments were more likely to major in science. The most important determinant for students in choosing majors was subject interests. Career concerns and students' grades also influenced the choice of majors. In this study, it is concluded that the career decision level of students and subject interests influenced their choice of major. These findings suggest the career development programs and efforts to expose students to various career paths will increase the ability to make informed educational decisions.

  • This study aimed to examine the effects of upward counterfactual thinking in academic majors, academic major satisfaction, and job-seeking anxiety on university students' happiness along with the grade levels(the lower and upper grades). The participants were 581 university students in Seoul, Korea. Upward counterfactual thinking in academic majors (related to schoolwork and job-seeking) had negative effects on academic major satisfaction. Upward counterfactual thinking in academic majors related to job-seeking had positive effects on job-seeking anxiety. Academic major satisfaction decreased job-seeking anxiety, and promoted happiness. Job-seeking anxiety had negative effects on happiness. In the path model between variables, the differences according to the grade were found in the influence of upward counterfactual thinking in academic majors related to schoolwork on major satisfaction and in the influence of job-seeking anxiety on happiness. These results are expected to help select interventions that would foster happiness among university students.

  • This research investigated recognitions on outside and inside electrodes in an electric circuit supplied by a galvanic cell, through survey and interview of teachers studying in Departments of Physics Education and Chemistry Education at H University Graduate School. Physics majors' designations on outside or inside parts of electrodes in a galvanic cell were different from Chemistry majors'. Teachers who had majored in physics had difficulties on the inside electrode of a galvanic cell, while teachers who had majored in chemistry had difficulties on the outside electrode. Reasonings for designations of electrodes were attributed to direction of electric current in case of physics teachers and redox in case of chemistry teachers, respectively, which are strongly dependent on backgrounds performed in their undergraduate course.

  • The Medical Residents Act was enacted in December 2016 to protect the rights of residents, and to ensuring the safety of patients, and nurturing good medical human resources. This study analyzed the changes of training conditions according to the enforcement of The Medical Residents Act by comparing the results of two surveys conducted in 2015(1,793 Residents) and 2017(1,768 Residents). As a result, Residents worked over 80 hours per week on average('15=92.4h, '17=87.3h) and they worked twice as many times as 36 hours('15=89.4h, '17=70.1h). Female residents' leave before and after childbirth('15=78.5day, '17=82.2day), Preparation of Standard training contract('15=19.3%, '17=40.8%), Delivery of training contract('15=12.4%, '17=36.1%) did not comply with the regulations. The training conditions of the residents is directly related to the safety of patients and the public's health. National support is needed for the support of substitute workforces, fair training evaluation conditions and incentives based on the evaluation results, labor costs for residents and supervising medical specialists, and the cost of making training programs.

  • This research, targeting the college students majoring in health administration science in Kwangju & Chonnam, is aimed at understanding their satisfaction with majors according to general, relationship, consciousness, and subject satisfaction, and looking into the correlation between the satisfaction and further career choices. This research set the 270 prospective graduates its study subjects based on convenience sampling. It was found that the number of students who want to choose their further major-related careers as medical records technician was greatest among the research subjects, of whom 62.4% were satisfied with their major subject while there existed a little difference in major satisfaction by further career. In addition, the students who want to choose the career of medical records filer showed higher satisfaction with their major subject than those who want to choose other-major-related careers. In general characteristics among the influential factors of major satisfaction in major-related career choices of a students of health administration science department, the 2nd year classes' major satisfaction was found to be 4.13 times as high as the 3rd year classes while the major satisfaction of the group choosing their major subject spontaneously was found to be 8.04 times as significantly high as the group choosing their major subject involuntarily. As a result of the analysis of the influence on major satisfaction among the sub-province of major satisfaction, it was found that the group having high consciousness satisfaction was 3.93 times as significantly high as the group having low consciousness satisfaction. A logistic analysis of the influence of major satisfaction on further career choices, the major satisfaction of those wishing to choose their major-related career as a medical records technician was 2.06 times as significantly high as those who didn't choose a medical records filer as their career choice while the major satisfaction of the group spontaneously choosing the career of a medical records technician was 4.51 times as significantly high as that of the group involuntarily choosing the career of a medical records technician. There should be a plan for enhancing major satisfaction by each major-related career in consideration of the characteristics of health administration science department having diverse career choices.
