  • I studied connection between meridians and Dianxian(癲癎, Epilepsy). Dianxian is caused by Feun(風) based on the Blood-Deficiency(血虛) which is induced by Heart-deficiency(心虛). Therefore, when Heart and blood are in deficient condition(心血虛), Heart meridian(心經) and Pericardium meridian(心包經) can be easily affected by Feng(風), which is main cause of Dianxian. Furthermore, Liver heat(肝熱) is another main cause of Dianxian. It shows along Liver meridian(肝經) and affects Pericardium Meridian(心包經). Heart, Pericardium and Liver are main organs of human psychoconscious activities, and also are main pathological organs of Dianxian. Dianxian progresses in several ways and simtoms of Dianxian are variant according to the deficiency-exess state(虛實) of Stomach and Spleen meridians(脾胃經). So, I concluded that controling Heart, Pericardium, Liver, Stomach and Spleen meridians can make therapeutical effects on Dianxian. So I report it for the better treatment, and it shoud need further study.

  • Purpose: These case reports have been prepared to highlight the uncommon occurrence of anterior shoulder dislocation after an epileptic seizure, the recognition of which is important as this type of injury is associated with bony lesions and a high incidence of recurrence. Materials and Methods: We report two cases of recurrent anterior dislocation of the shoulder due to grand mal epilepsy. These cases were treated as usual anterior dislocations of the shoulder, and were regularly followed to detect any recurrence of shoulder instability. Results: Outcome of the surgery in the two cases was different because of the differences in seizure control. In the patient in whom seizures were well-controlled, there was no recurrence of instability, while the patient with poorly controlled seizures developed a recurrence of the dislocation following shoulder repair. Conclusion: The authors emphasize the need to control seizures in order to prevent injury recurrence in this subset of patients.

  • There are considerable interests in bat biology for investigating hibernation mechanism, in special regard to a hypothesis that the entry into hibernation is closely related with epileptic fit (petit mal) accompanying falling of body temperature, which is characterized by 3 spikes and wave/sec formation in electroencephalograph (EEG). This study was designed in order to examine physiological parameters (body temperature, heart rate, electroencephalograph and brain mapping) during normal patterns of the entry into hibernation and the hibernation period, and to observe effects of epileptogenic agents such as THC, Metrazol, and ILS on the physiological parameters. Based on the experimental results the entry into some hibernation seems to be related with epileptic fit, and therefore it is deduced that north temperate bats and the hamsters might be induced into hibernation by epileptogenic factors (pentylenetetrazol, THC and ILS etc) accompanying falling of body temperature and unique EEG and brain mapping.

  • Objectives : This study was performed to review the research tendency in traditional medical journals of epilepsy in China. Methods: 26 studies were selected by searching CNKI(China National Knowledge Infrastructure) from 2006 to 2010. Results : Those were analyzed and classified into cause, symptoms, herbal therapy, acupuncture therapy, diagnosis, clinical trials, case studies and evalution of treatment in epilepsy. Conclusions : The results show that traditional medical researches of epilepsy are performed variously and actively in China and there are some differences comparing with Korea. I hope these results activate the studies on eilepsy in Korean traditional medicine.

  • The productivity, cost, and optimal forest road network density for tree-length yarding with K301-4 and HAM300 tower yarders were analyzed. The results showed that productivity decreased as the yarding distance increased. The productivity of the K301-4 was greater than that of the HAM300 as the maximum yarding distance was longer than 34 m. This difference increased as the load volume increased. As the K301-4 yarder had a higher purchase price and it took more time to set up compared to the HAM300, the HAM300 was cost effective. Therefore, in oder to introduce tower yarders to reduce operational cost, it is effective to increase the load volume during operations and to utilize the road network repeatedly for a long period.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is To to study as reference (Ed note: 'study as reference' is awkward and unclear) for practical application in clinics, examine the procedure of historical changes and compare components and their doses of herbal medicines, which are recorded in Chapter Sinmun Jeongan of "Donguibogam". Methods : I examined 23 Herb Medicines in Chapter Sinmun Jeongan of "Donguibogam". Fourteen books, which were noted in Chapter Sinmun Jeongan of "Donguibogam" and 14 books were mentioned in the same part of "Uibujeonrok", which were selected as reference. Results and Conclusions : Fourteen documents were referred to as the 23 Herb Medicines in Chapter Sinmun Jeongan of "Donguibogam". A total of 21 Herb Medicines were recorded in the source book, but 2 Herb Medicines were not recorded. Eleven Herb Medicines among 21 were recorded in the source book, which were directly quoted from the firstly appeared books and 10 Herb Medicines were re-quoted from other books that succeeded the source books. I suspect that the components and dosages of the Herb Medicines were revised, according to the author's clinical experience and circumstances.

  • Through the classical records of the oriental medicine my investigation of the authorities of the epilepsy by classifying the etiology, symptoms and the treatments of it and camparing them has led to the following conclusion. 1) The etiology of 'epilepsy' can be classified into wind(風), sputum(痰), fever(熱) convulsion and caul. 2) The symptoms of it fall into the following nine ones; Sudden strong contraction making Sounds within the mouth, unoonsciousness, mutual jerks of the facial muscules foaming form the mouth, trismus contractive of extremities general body rigidity recovering after the fit and no rest. 3) The symptoms of Epilepsy are classified into 'Um type epilepsy'(癲) and the 'yang type epilepsy'(癎), and then the former has nine kinds in sympatomatic state and latter seventeen. 4) The treatment of the case can be made by using of cold drugs mainly for the purpose of mind purification(淸心), fever abatement(降火), Sputum-elimination(化痰) and normalization of metabolism(順氣) and Sometimes the function of the liver should be normalized by giving liver function normalizing medicine after Emetics. In comparison with the western way of using Anti convelsents therapy and electricshock therapy, the way of its treatment based on the classification of the causes is considered to be far more desirable.

  • Objectives The aim of this study is to examine the effects of Pediatric Tuina Massage (PTM) as a treatment of Chlidren's Epilepsy (CE) and to seek guidance for future follow-up studies and the use of Pediatric Tuina Massage (PTM) in clinical setting. Methods The articles were obtained from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from 2000 to 2021 by key words 'epilepsy', '癲癎', '癲癎病', 'infantile spasm', '婴幼儿痉挛', '小儿发作', '婴幼儿痉挛' and '推拿', '按摩', 'Tuina', 'Chuna', 'massage' in cross combination way. Results Seven articles were selected and analyzed by authors, years published, characteristics, diagnostic criteria, treatment methods and contents, treatment periods, evaluation criteria and research results. Also, stability and side effects were reviewed, and the qualities of the randomized controlled trials (RCT) were evaluated according to Risks of Bias 2 (RoB 2). All studies using Pediatric Tuina Massage (PTM) treatment have achieved effective therapeutic results for treating Children's epilepsy (CE). Conclusion Pediatric Tuina Massage (PTM) is economical, safe without side effects and non-invasive, but still produce a good effect. Also, it is a good treatment option for children who feels anxious of ordinary Korean Medical treatment such as acupuncture, moxa, herbal medicine, which also results in good compliance with the treatment. In addition, it is possible to enhance therapeutic effect by combining it with pharmacological therapies in treating children's epilepsy (CE). Therefore, Pediatric Tuina Massage (PTM) provides an essential clinical basis in guiding further studies for the treatment of CE.
