Bacterial Contamination of Dental Unit Water Systems in a Student Clinical Simulation Laboratory of College of Dentistry (치과대학 임상 시뮬레이션 실습실 치과용 유니트 수계의 세균 오염도 조사)

  • The water supplied from dental unit water systems (DUWS) in dentistry may be heavily contaminated with bacteria and thus may be a potential source of infection for both practice staff and patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of heterotrophic bacteria and to confirm the presence of opportunistic pathogens from DUWS in student clinical simulation laboratory of college of dentistry. Water samples were collected from 36 ultrasonic scalers in student clinical simulation laboratory. The levels of heterotrophic bacteria in water samples were quantified by counting colony forming units (CFUs) on R2A agar media. In addition, opportunistic pathogens were detected by using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. The mean CFUs were 16,095 CFU/ml for water samples and all of water samples exceeded current American Dental Association recommendations of 200 CFU/ml. Pseudomonas species and non-tuberculous Mycobacterium species were detected in the one sample and two samples, respectively, among the 36 water samples by the PCR with specific primers for these bacteria. Our study indicated that DUWS in student clinical simulation laboratory can cause potential infection in students and participants. This study suggested the dental unit water line management and wearing personal protective equipment in student clinical simulation laboratory will be needed to reduce bacterial contamination.

Discovery of Deleterious nsSNPs on the Genes related to the Lipid Metabolism and Prediction of Changes on Biological Function in Korean Native Chicken (한국 재래닭에서 지질대사 관련 유전자에 존재하는 유해성 nsSNP 발굴 및 생물학적 기능 예측)

  • In this study, we aimed to identify the nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (nsSNPs) located in lipid metabolism-related genes because lipids are an important factor affecting the taste and flavor of meat, and they predict the functional consequences. The results showed that we identified 139 common nsSNPs in all five Korean native chicken (KNC) lines from the 81 genes related to lipid metabolism. Furthermore, sorting intolerant from tolerant (SIFT) and polymorphism phenotyping v2 (Polyphen-2) analyses predicted that among the genes, 14 nsSNPs of nine genes might be deleterious. Protein domain prediction of the nine genes revealed that all deleterious nsSNPs identified in this study were located outside the functional domain. This observation suggests that the common deleterious nsSNPs might be dispensable and have a minor effect on the traits of the KNCs.

  • It is becoming increasingly important to make use of alternative energy source. because It is not able to rely on only fossil fuel for the recent increasing demand of energy consumption. With this situation, lots of studies for utilizing low grade energy such as industrial waste heat, solar energy, and geothermal energy have been conducted. The aim of this study is to predict the operation characteristics of working fluid by using performance analysis program (ThermoFlex) through the system analysis which is not mixing district return water but using ORC(Organic Rankine Cycle, hereinafter ORC) as a downstream cycle when accumulating district heating (hereinafter DH). In this study, We conducted the performance analysis for the case which has the district heating water temperature($120^{\circ}C$) and Flow rate of $163m^3/h$ (including District Heating return water flow), and examined several working fluid which is proper to this temperature. The case using R245fa (which is the best-case) showed 269.2kW power output, 6.37% efficiency. Additionally, Cut down on fuel was expected because of the boiler inlet temperature increase by being Formed $57.3{\sim}85^{\circ}C$ in a temperature of district heating return water, depending on a pressure change of a condenser in ORC system.

The Study of Thermal Effect Suppression and Wavelength Dependence of Azobenzene-coated FBG for UV Sensing Application (UV광 측정용 아조벤젠 코팅된 FBG의 열적 효과 제거 및 파장 의존성에 대한 연구)

  • In the paper, we have demonstrated an azobenzene-coated fiber Bragg grating (FBG) for monitoring ultraviolet light (UV) intensity in remote measurement. The elasticity of the coated azobenzene polymer is changed by the UV light, which induces a center wavelength change corresponding to the change of the FBG's grating period. The wavelength shift resulting from both UV light and other light with the wavelength out of the UV range was about 0.18 nm. In order to improve the accuracy of the measurement, the center wavelength shift caused by radiant heat of the light source was sufficiently removed by using a thermal filter. The amount of the center wavelength shift was consequently reduced to 0.06 nm, compared to the result without the thermal filter. Also, the FBGs coated by using azobenzene polymer were produced by two different methods; thermal casting and UV curing. Considering temperature dependence, UV curing is more suitable than thermal casting in UV sensor application of the azobenzene-coated FBG. In addition, we have confirmed the wavelength dependence of the optical sensor by means of four different band pass filters. Thus, we found out that the center wavelength shift per unit intensity is 0.029 [arb. unit] as a maximum value at 370 nm wavelength region and that the absorption spectrum of the azobenzene polymer was very consistent with the wavelength dependence of the azobenzene-coated FBG.

n-type GaN 위에 형성된 Ti/Al/Mo/Au 및 Ti/Al/Ni/Au 오믹 접합의 isolation 누설전류 분석

  • 질화갈륨(GaN)은 높은 전자이동도 및 높은 항복전계를 가지며 낮은 온저항으로 인하여 에너지효율이 우수하기 때문에 고출력 전력소자 분야에서 많은 관심을 받고 있다. GaN을 이용한 고출력 전력소자의 경우 상용화 수준에 근접할 만한 기술적 진보가 있었으나, 페르미 레벨 고정(Fermi-level pinning) 현상, 소자의 누설전류 등 아직 해결되어야 할 문제를 갖고 있다. 본 연구에서는 실리콘 기판 위에 성장된 GaN 에피탁시를 활용한 고출력 전력소자의 누설전류를 억제시키기 위해 오믹 접합 중 Au의 상호확산을 억제하는 중간층 금속(Mo or Ni)을 변화시켰으며 오믹 열처리 온도에 따른 특성을 비교 연구하였다. $Cl_2$$BCl_3$를 이용하여 0.6 ${\mu}m$ 깊이의 메사 구조가 활성영역을 형성하였고, Si 도핑된 n-GaN 위에 Ti/Al/Mo/Au (20/100/25/200 nm) 와 Ti/Al/Ni/Au (20/100/25/200 nm) 오믹 접합을 각각 설계, 제작하였다. 오믹 열처리시의 GaN 표면오염을 방지하기 위해 $SiO_2$ 희생층을 증착하였다. 오믹 접합 형성을 위해 각 750$^{\circ}C$, 800$^{\circ}C$, 850$^{\circ}C$에서 30초간 열처리를 진행 하였으며, 이후 6 : 1 BOE 용액으로 $SiO_2$ 희생층을 제거하였다. 750, 800, 850$^{\circ}C$에서 Ti/Al/Mo/Au 구조의 오믹 접합 저항은 각 2.56, 2.34, 2.22 ${\Omega}$-mm 이었으며, Ti/Al/Ni/Au 구조의 오믹 접합 저항은 각 43.72, 2.64, 1.86 ${\Omega}$-mm이었다. Isolation 누설전류를 측정하기 위해서 두 개의 오믹 접합 사이에 메사 구조가 있는 테스트 구조를 제안하였다. Isolation 누설전류는 Ti/Al/Mo/Au 구조에서 두 오믹 접합 사이의 거리가 25 ${\mu}m$이고 100 V일 때 750, 800, 850 $^{\circ}C$의 열처리 온도에서 각 1.25 nA/${\mu}m$, 2.48 nA/${\mu}m$, 8.76 nA/${\mu}m$이었으며, Ti/Al/Ni/Au 구조에서는 각 1.58 nA/${\mu}m$, 2.13 nA/${\mu}m$, 96.36 nA/${\mu}m$이었다. 열처리 온도가 증가하며 오믹 접합 저항은 감소하였으나 isolation 누설전류는 증가하였다. 750$^{\circ}C$ 열처리에서 오믹 접합 저항은Ti/Al/Mo/Au 구조가 Ti/Al/Ni/Au 구조보다 약 17배 우수하였고, 850$^{\circ}C$ 고온의 열처리 경우 Ti/Al/Mo/Au 구조의 isolation 누설전류는 8.76 nA/${\mu}m$로 Ti/Al/Ni/Au의 누설전류 96.36 nA/${\mu}m$보다 약 11배 우수하였다. Ti/Al/Mo/Au가 Ti/Al/Ni/Au 보다 오믹 접합 저항과 isolation 누설전류 측면에서 전력용 GaN 소자에 적합함을 확인하였다.

A Study on the Role of Participants in the Suwon Gobuk Market Landscape Agreement (수원 거북시장 경관협정에서 나타난 참여자 역할에 대한 연구)

  • There is growing concern about landscape agreement with regard to a variety of activities within resident-based agreements in Korea. This study aims to investigate the communication method of the agreement contacting process and its essential role as a bottom-up resident-based process. The study site is Gobuk Market in Suwon city, where a resident-based landscape agreement was successfully made. In this study, the author implemented in-depth interviews and a literature review to understand the meaning of the agreement contracting process and participants' opinions regarding the Gobuk Market case. During the landscape contracting process, the level of participation of residents, experts and the government changed. The study found that diverse communication methods, such as training, agreement information sessions and seminars were conducted during the process of the resident-based landscape agreement and it is crucial to construct healthy relationship among stakeholders. Furthermore, the experts' role is crucial in establishing agreement among residents initially. However, as local empowerment and the willingness of local people grow, each stakeholder's role is changed by stage. Therefore the Central and Local Government have the necessary task of providing institutional strategy. This study has offered practical information on how each stakeholder played their individual role within the landscape agreement.

Image Encryption and Decryption System using Frequency Phase Encoding and Phase Wrapping Method (주파수 위상 부호화와 위상 랩핑 방법을 이용한 영상 암호화 및 복호화 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose an improved image encryption and fault-tolerance decryption method using phase wrapping and phase encoding in the frequency domain. To generate an encrypted image, an encrypting key which denotes the product of a phase-encoded virtual image, not an original image, and a random phase image is zero-padded and Fourier transformed and its real-valued data is phase-encoded. The decryption process is simply performed by performing the inverse Fourier transform for multiplication of the encrypted key with the decrypting key, made of the proposed phase wrapping method, in the output plane with a spatial filter. This process has the advantages of solving optical alignment and pixel-to-pixel mapping problems. The proposed method using the virtual image, which does not contain any information from the original image, prevents the possibility of counterfeiting from unauthorized people and also can be used as a current spatial light modulator technology by phase encoding of the real-valued data. Computer simulations show the validity of the encryption scheme and the robustness to noise of the encrypted key or the decryption key in the proposed technique.

Characteristics of yeast with low temperature adaptation for Yakju brewed (약주 제조를 위한 저온 적응성 효모의 특성)

  • The objectives of this study were to isolate and characterize low temperature adaptation yeast and to obtain suitable yeasts strains for manufacturing Yakju. In this study, we isolated 482 wild yeasts from fermented foods. Out of these, 5 yeast strains were selected based on increased growth at low temperature ($15^{\circ}C$) and high ${\beta}$-glucosidase activity. To screen the aromatic level of isolates, media containing cerulenin and 5,5,5-trifluor-DL-leucine (TFL) were used. Y297 strain demonstrated tolerance against TFL and produced more than 13% alcohol. Y297 strain was identified a Saccharomyces cerevisiae based on the 26S rDNA gene sequences. Maximum cell growth was observed after 19 hr and 38 hr of incubation at $25^{\circ}C$ and $15^{\circ}C$, respectively. The exponential phase was followed by a lengthy stationary phase, at $15^{\circ}C$, when the cells remained high viable. Y297 strain demonstrated tolerance against alcohol (10%), glucose (60%) and salt(NaCl, 8%). ${\beta}$-glucosidase and esterase activity in Y297 were higher than those of controls at $15^{\circ}C$. Overall, these results indicated that using wild yeast strain, isolated from fermented food, affects the chemical characteristics of the brewed Yakju.

Quality characteristics of tangerine peel Soksungjang prepared from different koji strains (균주를 달리하여 제조한 귤피 속성장의 특성)

  • This study was performed to provide information for improving the quality characteristics of tangerine peel Soksungjang. Tangerine peel Soksungjangs were prepared with 10% tangerine peel powder by addition of different koji such as Rhizopus oligosporus (RS, RTS) and Aspergillus oryzae (AS, ATS). As a result, the moisture content was not changed and crude protein content decreased during fermentation in all samples. The pH of RS (Soksungjang manufactured with Rhizopus oligosporus koji) and RTS (Soksungjang manufactured with Rhizopus oligosporus koji and 10% tangerine peel powder) was not changed, whereas pH of AS (Soksungjang manufactured with Aspergillus oryzae) and ATS (Soksungjang manufactured with Aspergillus oryzae koji and 10% tangerine peel powder) decreased rapidly after 10 days of fermentation. The acidity values of all the samples increased during fermentation. The major free sugars were glucose, fructose, and maltose; while, the major organic acids were citric acid, succinic acid, acetic acid, and lactic acid in all the samples. The amino nitrogen content and protease activity were highest in the AS and ATS. Conversely, the reducing sugar content and ${\alpha}$-amylase activity were highest in the RS and RTS. The major free amino acids in all samples were glutamic acid, lysine, leucine, and arginine. Sixty kinds of volatile flavor compounds were identified from all samples; the majority of which were 21 alcohols, 14 hydrocarbons, 5 esters, and others identifies as acids, ketones, and aldehydes.

Rheological Properties of White Pan Bread Dough Prepared with Angelica gigas nakai Powder (당귀 분말을 첨가한 식빵 반죽의 물리적 특성)

  • The effects of Angelica gigas nakai powder(AP) addition on bread dough were investigated by preparing dough with 0-10%(w/v) powder. Dough raising power, gluten levels, rapid visco properties, and falling number, were investigated. The rheological properties of dough as measured by mixography, farinography, alveography, color assessment, and with scanning electron microscopy, were examined. Increase in AP concentration resulted in a linear decrease in gluten content. Dough raising power and extensibility were decreased by water absorption rate, and resistance increased. Dough stability and rose when AP was present at 1-2%(w/v). Water absorption, dough stability, and dough valorimeter values also rose when AP was present at 1-2%(w/v), but AP induced weakness in the dough, as revealed through farinography, and also resulted in a lowering of initial pasting temperature and the temperature at peak viscosity. A decrease in viscosity at the peak point, and(as revealed by RVA), a decrease in extensibility, an increased resistance to extension, and a rise in the energy required for extension, were also seen when AP powder was added, as was an increase in the R/E ratio. Overall, the addition of AP to dough to levels of 1% or 2%(both w/v) is thought to be useful in the preparation of a functional white pan bread, and results in quality improvements.
