Design of a Real Time Adaptive Controller for Industrial Robot Using Digital Signal Processor (디지털 신호처리기를 사용한 산업용 로버트의 실시간 적응제어기 설계)

  • This paper presents a new approach to the design of adaptive control system using DSPs(TMS320C30) for robotic manipulators to achieve trajectory tracking by the joint angles Digital signal processors are used in implementing real time adaptive control algorithms to provide an enhanced motion control for robotic manipulators. In the proposed control scheme adaptation laws are derived from the improved Lyapunov second stability analysis method based on the adaptive model reference control theory. The adaptive controller consists of an adaptive feedforward controller. feedback controller. and PID type time-varying auxiliary control elements. The proposed adaptive control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Moreover, this scheme does not require a an accurate dynamic modeling, nor values of manipulator parameters and payload. Performance of the adaptive controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a SCARA robot.

  • In continuous annealing line (CAL), POSCO, the center position control (CPC) is an essential technique that renders the steel-strip to pass at the center of a roll in order to prevent the strip from skewing or breaking. The CPC algorithm currently installed on the steering roll in the heating section of CAL is to control the strip position by using the reverse phase of error from the center position, without considering the dynamics of strip horizontal movement. Such algorithm may, unfortunately, require a manual operation occasionally when the range of strip input becomes wide, causing the dynamics 0 be dominant. Other PID-type control is rarely used in automatic operation because the excess of response may occur when the discontinuous points such as welding joints pass through rolls. In this paper, we identify the CPC system by using off-line data and design a compensator for the excessive dynamics by using the adaptive inverse control. Simulation result depicts the improved reliability of the proposed CPC system.

  • In general mechanical servo systems, friction deteriorates the performance of controllers by its nonlinear characteristics. Especially, friction phenomenon causes steady-state tracking errors and limit cycles in position and velocity control systems, even though gains of controllers are tuned well in linear system model. Even if sensor is used higher accuracy level, it is difficult to improve tracking performance of the position to the same level with a general control method such as PID type. Therefore, many friction models were proposed and compensation methods have been researched actively. In this paper, we consider that the variation of mover's mass is various by loading and unloading. The normal force variation occurs by it and other parameters. Therefore, the proposed control system is composed of main position controller and a friction compensator. A parameter estimator for a nonlinear friction model is designed by adaptive control law and adaptive backstopping control method.

  • In the time optimal control problem, bang-bang control has been used becaese it is the theoretical time minimum solution. However, to improve tracking speed performance in the time optimal control, it is important to select a switching point accurately which makes the velocity zero near the target track. But it is not easy to select the swiching point accurately because of the damping coefficient variation and uncertainties of modeling an actual system. The Adaptive model following control(AMFC) is implemented to relieve the difficulty and inconvenience of this task. The AMFC and make the controlled plant follow as closely as possible to a desired reference model whose switching point can be calculated easily and accurately, assuring the error between the states of the reference model and those of the controlled plant appoaches zero. The hybrid control method composed of AMFC and PID is applied to a tracking actuator of the magneto optical disk drive(MODD) in random access devices to improve its slow tracking performance. According to the simulaion and experimental results, the average tracking time as small as 20ms is obtained for a 3.5 magneto-optical disk drive. The AMFC also can be applied for other random access devices to improve the average tracking performance.

An Adaptive Learning Controller for Underwater Vehicle with Thruster Dynamics (추진기의 영향을 고려한 무인잠수정의 적응학습제어)

  • Underwater robotic vehicles(URVs) are used for various work assignments such as pipe-lining, inspection, data collection, drill support, hydrography mapping, construction, maintenance and repairing of undersea equipment, etc. As the use of such vehicles increases the development of vehicles having greater autonomy becomes highly desirable. The vehicle control system is one of the most critic vehicle subsystems to increase autonomy of the vehicle. The vehicle dynamics is nonlinear and time-varying. Hydrodynamic coefficients are often difficult to accurately estimate. It was also observed by experiments that the effect of electrically powered thruster dynamics on the vehicle become significant at low speed or stationkeeping. The conventional linear controller with fixed gains based on the simplified vehicle dynamics, such as PID, may not be able to handle these properties and result in poor performance. Therefore, it is desirable to have a control system with the capability of learning and adapting to the changes in the vehicle dynamics and operating parameters and providing desired performance. This paper presents an adaptive and learning control system which estimates a new set of parameters defined as combinations of unknown bounded constants of system parameter matrices, rather than system parameters. The control system is described with the proof of stability and the effect of unmodeled thruster dynamics on a single thruster vehicle system is also investigated.
