Graft-taking Characteristics of Watermelon Grafted Seedlings as Affected by Blue, Red and Far-red Light-emitting Diodes (수박 접목묘의 활착 특성에 미치는 청색, 적색 및 원적색 발광다이오드의 영향)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of light quality on evapotranspiration and graft-taking characteristics of watermelon grafted seedlings using blue, red and far-red light-emitting diodes (LED). At initial stage of graft-taking, blue light increased the evapotranspiration rate (EVTR) of grafted seedlings as compared to effects of red and far-red on EVTR of grafted seedlings. Grafted seedlings graft-taken under red and blue LED showed the high graft-taking of 100% and 96%, respectively. However, grafted seedlings graft-taken under far-red LED showed the graft-taking of 80% and survival of 60% with low seedlings quality after hardening. The stem of grafted seedlings graft-taken under red light was elongated but blue light suppressed the stem elongation. The leaf area of grafted seedlings graft-taken under red light was increased. It is concluded that the effect of light quality using LED on graft-taking of watermelon grafted seedlings was significantly recognized. Considering the duration of quality of grafted seedlings graft-taken under artificial lighting, LED could be used as an effective lighting sources to validate the continuance of seedling quality.

Effect of Red and Infrared LED Light Therapy on Allergic Rhinitis (알레르기 비염 환자에서 적색 및 근적외선 LED 광선 치료 효과)

  • As a non-invasive method for alleviating allergic rhinitis, there has been a recent ongoing research in the treatment of light from light emitting diodes (LEDs) and lasers. A total of 15 subjects diagnosed with allergic rhinitis were selected for this study. Red and near infrared light emitted from LEDs with wavelengths of 660nm and 940nm were illuminated three times daily (three minutes per cycle) for a total of two weeks. The degree of nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing and nasal itching was evaluated by questionnaires before and after the test. Also, the serum IgE (Immunoglobulin E) was measured and compared before and after the test. As a result, the total score of symptoms of allergic rhinitis was decreased by 67% after the test (P<0.01). The level of IgE was decreased by 17% after the test (P<0.05). In conclusion, the non-invasive LED phototherapy method using red and near-infrared LED light was effective in alleviating symptoms of allergic rhinitis. There were no adverse effects or complications reported during and after the test.

Fabrication of Red and Green Phosphor Ink for the Micro LED Color Filter Using Ink-Jet Process (Micro LED 제작을 위한 Color Filter용 잉크젯 공정 적색, 녹색 형광체 잉크 연구)

  • In this paper, in order to apply the CF (color filter) type of the micro light emitting device (Micro LED) display method, a study on the manufacturing process of red and green phosphor inks for the inkjet process was conducted. The blue light-emitting KSF and LuAG phosphors were respectively used to control the phosphor particle size to about 1㎛, and a phosphor ink was prepared by synthesizing with a low-viscosity solution (IPA/Eg). A chemical dispersion method was applied to selectively control the dispersion characteristics in the manufacture of phosphor inks, and in particular, phosphor inks with a dispersant applied a dispersant secured stable dispersion characteristic compared to phosphor inks without a dispersion process. Therefore, it seems possible to manufacture CF for Micro LED through an inkjet process capable of controlling the dispersion characteristics of phosphor ink.

Effect of Light-emitting Diodes (LEDs) and Ventilation on the in vitro Shoot Growth of Eucalyptus pellita (Eucalyptus pellita의 기내(器內) 줄기생장에 미치는 LEDs (Light-emitting diodes) 및 환기처리(換氣處理) 효과)

  • Various light sources including LEDs (Light emitting diodes) affecting on shoot growth was examined using in vitro shoots of E. pellita. Generally, it appeared that ventilation treatment was the most important factor affecting on normal shoot growth, irrespective of irradiation sources. Ventilation resulted in better performance of the cultures under 100% blue LED radiation. These include better shoot growth, more number of leaves, more number of internodes, more number of axillary buds, and heavier dry matters. The highest total chlorophyll content was obtained under both cool-white fluorescent lamps and R5B5 (50% red LED + 50% blue LED). The value was $24.5{\mu}g/g$ and $20.1{\mu}g/g$, respectively. In addition, ventilation resulted in higher carotenoid content in all irradiation sources except 100% red LED radiation. In conclusion, shoot growth of E. pellita could be reached maximum by ventilation under R5B5 (50% red LED + 50% blue LED).

The effect of RGB LED lights on oyster mushroom (Pleurotus spp.) fruit-body characteristics (RGB LED 광원이 느타리류의 자실체 특성에 미치는 효과)

  • Light plays an important role in fruit-body development and morphology during Pleurotus spp. cultivation. To understand the effects of light color on fruit-body properties, we evaluated the fruit-body characteristics of Pleurotus spp. Varieties cultivated under blue, red, and purple LED light sources. The main results are as follows: The overall fruit-body shape showed differences depending on the color of the LED light. The fruit-bodies of mushroom cultivated under blue and purple light were generally similar to the mushroom shapes typically produced, while those of mushroom cultivated under green light were abnormally shaped, probably due to the absence of effective light source. The average cap lightness of mushrooms cultivated under blue, green, and purple LED lights was 57.0, 57.4, and 59.4, respectively. The average cap lightness of all varieties except Wonhyeong1ho and Hwang-geumsantari cultivated under the three LED light sources were statistically significantly different (P<0.05). The cap redness varied significantly depending on the LED lighting and variety. Only Gonji7hoM, the cap color mutant of Gonji7ho, showed negative cap redness values under all three LED light sources. Among the eight varieties excluding Gonji7ho, the highest cap redness was observed when cultivated under the blue LED. The average harvest weight of the varieties cultivated under purple, blue, and green LED light were 68.0, 58.3, and 50.1 g, respectively. The yield of Gonji7ho, the mushroom variety with the highest yield, cultivated under blue, green, and purple LED light were 92.8, 77.1, and 98.6 g, respectively. The earliness when grown under the purple, blue, and green LED lights were 5.3, 5.8, and 5.8 days, respectively. Among the varieties, six, three, and two cultivars showed the shortest earliness under the purple, green, and blue LED, respectively. The fruit-body lengths were 66.4, 51.8, and 46.8 mm when cultivated under green, purple, and blue lights, respectively. These results are expected to serve as a foundation for producing mushrooms with traits demanded in the market.

Effects of Soil Type and Light Condition on Seedling Quality of Rare and Endemic Plants Orostachys iwarenge and Orostachys iwarenge for. magnus (토양 종류와 광 조건이 희귀특산식물 연화바위솔 및 울릉연화바위솔 규격묘 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigated the effects of soil type and light condition on seedling quality of rare and endemic plants Orostachys iwarenge and Orostachys iwarenge for. magnus. The best seedling quality of O. iwarenge and O. iwarenge for. magnus seedling were shown in Klasmann soil at non-shading or LED (Red+Blue) condition, 50% shading or LED (Red+Blue) condition, respectively. Survival of O. iwarenge seedling was not influenced by the period of experiment but survival of O. iwarenge for. magnus seedling in sandy soil conditions decreased significantly. Results of correlation analysis of seedling quality and survival rate, indicated that O. iwarenge showed a correlation of 0.8 or more at plant height, leaf length and fresh weight. O. iwarenge for. magnus showed a correlation of 0.8 or more at plant height, leaf width and leaf length. Especially, seedling survival of O. iwarenge and O. iwarenge for. magnus showed a correlation of 0.8 or more at first seedling survival and second seedling survival. It was important to manage the early seedling stages of O. iwarenge and O. iwarenge for. magnus. Therefore, seedlings with plant height (over 2.5~4 cm) and root length (over 3~5 cm) were grown vigorously at 35 days after the seedling was transplanted in mid-April in Klasmann soil of 72 plug cell tray at LED (Red+Blue) conditions.

  • The existing vessels lighting control system has several problems, which are complexity of construction and high cost of establishment and maintenance. In this paper, We designed low cost and high performance lighting control system at digital vessel environment. We proposed a system which recognize the user's emotions after obtaining the biological informations about user's bio information(pulse sensor, blood pressure sensor, blood sugar sensor etc) through wireless sensors controls the LED Lights. This system classified emotions using backpropagation algorithm. We chose 3,000 data sets to train the backpropagation algorithm. As a result, obtained about 88.7% accuracy. And the classified emotions find the most appropriate point in the method of controlling the waves or frequencies to the red, green, blue LED Lamp comparing with the 20-color-emotion models in the HP's 'The meaning of color' and control the brightness or contrast of the LED Lamp. In this method, the system saved about 20% of the electricity consumed.

Effects of cultural characteristics of Lentinula edodes according to LED wavelength with sawdust substrate cultivation (표고 톱밥배지 재배시 LED 광파장이 자실체 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to elucidate suitable wavelength of light during development of fruit body in Lentinula edodes. The four colors of LED(Light Emitting Diode), blue, green, red and yellow, were irradiated for formation of fruit-body. The effect of color of LED at all growth stage, the lightness of cap showed darker in blue and green LED irradiation than that of red and yellow LED. The longer stipe were resulted in longer wavelength. And the activity of anti-oxidant did not showed big differences according to LED wavelength. We obtained higher commercial yields and lower ratio of abnormal fruit body in green LED than those in control(fluorescent lamp).

  • There are increasing interests in COB (Chip On Board) that densely arranged many LED chips on one board in order to solve the heat issue. There are many problems being on the rise: the lifespan decreases as the temperature of LED devices increases; Red Shift phenomenon, in which wave length of spectral line moves from original wave length to long wave length, occurs; and optical power decreases as $T_j$ increases. In order to resolve such problems, this study selected the optimum thickness and length of Fin, planned the second Heat sink that is optimum for COB LED with 15W, and analyzed thermal mode by Solid Works Flow Simulation through 15W COB packaging with the planned Heat sink. 15W COB down-light Heat sink that is produced based on this analysis was utilized to analyze thermal mode through contact thermometer and electrical properties through Kelthley 2430.

Effects of mixed LED light sources on the fruiting body growth of oak mushroom (Lentinula edodes) 'Nongjingo' (LED 혼합광이 표고 '농진고' 자실체의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, we investigated the morphological characteristics and antioxidant ability of mushroom cultivar Lentinula edodes 'Nongjingo' fruiting bodies after exposure to various light conditions. Color differences between mushrooms treated with mixtures of LED light revealed that mushrooms displayed lighter color shades when compared to the control group (fluorescent light treated mushrooms). Redness increased and yellowness decreased after exposure to all treatments other than the fluorescent control. Measurement of growth characteristics of 'Nongjingo' fruiting bodies showed increases after exposure to all mixed LED treatments. In addition, the uniformity of fruiting bodies was higher when using LED light compared to fluorescent light. The measurement of stem diameters did not show a significant difference between the treatments, however, diameters were slightly larger with exposure to white-green LED. Moreover, stem length was longer in the mixed LED treatments when compared to those exposed to fluorescent light. Examination of the ratio of stem diameter to stem length revealed that the diameter of the stem was greater than the length. The antioxidant activity of water extracts made from Nongjingo fruiting bodies grown under mixed LED conditions was compared to those from mushrooms grown under fluorescence light conditions. The highest antioxidant activity was observed from mushrooms treated with white LED; however, no significant difference was found between mushrooms exposed to white-green LED compared to white-blue LED. The treatment showed higher antioxidant ability than vitamin C. Our results confirm that treatment of white LED and white-blue LED affects the growth and antioxidant ability of Nongjingo mushroom fruiting bodies.
