An Experimental study on swirl flow and combustion characteristics of 3 staged low NOx burner applied with FGR and FIR (FGR 및 FIR을 적용한 3단 저 NOx 버너의 Swirl유동 및 연소특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The objective of this research is to determine generally applicable design principles for the development of internally staged combustion devices. Utilizing a triple annulus combustor, air staged commercial propane flame configuration are studied. For this triple air staged combustor, the angular momentum weighted by it's swirl number and air distribution ratio was observed to be the critical criteria. An internal recirculation zone which develops on the centerline of the flame immediately downstream of the burner entraps the fuel into a fuel rich eddy. Then sufficient heat must he transferred from the flame via radiation to the chamber heat transfer surfaces, such that when the second air is introduced, peak flame temperatures are suppressed. It is experimentally found out that the total NOx emission level in this type of burner is lower than 0.75g/kg.

  • The objective of this research is to determine generally applicable design principles for the development of internally staged combustion devices.   • Experiments were performed to investigate the characteristics of combustion of 7MW-3 air stages combustion system for a heavy oil firing boiler. Several fuel nozzles were developed for the purpose of lowering pollutions in another institute and ${\Phi}$-jet nozzle among them was equipped to the combustion system. A variety of combustion phenomena were observed as air stage ratio, air fuel ratio and load are changed for each nozzle. Main combustion characteristics are shape of flame, NOx and CO generations, smoke scale number. Through lots of adjustments, the combustion system reaches such goals as the low NOx of 160 ppm, CO of 300 ppm corrected at $O_2$ of 4% and dust of 150 mg/Sm3.

Performance Evaluation of Low NOx Pulverized Coal Burner Applied in Coal Fired Boiler Refurbishment Project (석탄연소보일러 개조공사에 적용된 저NOx 미분탄 버너의 성능 평가)

  • To meet the environmental requirements, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., Ltd. (Doosan) had developed low NOx pulverized coal burner and it was applied to boiler retrofit project, 130 ton/hr coal fired cogeneration boiler, in 2003. NOx emissionand unburned carbon (UBC) in fly ash were measured during the commissioning tests. In this paper, the operation results of low NOx pulverized coal burner installed in 130 ton/hr coal fired boiler are presented. Burners emitted 160 ppm (@6 % $O_2$ basis) NOx and 3 % UBC with Chinacoal containing 0.86 % fuel nitrogen. And also it was shown that NOx emission rate of low NOx pulverized coal burner is linearly increased with fuel-nitrogen fraction of coal.
