The effect of Novel gravitational fields on early Amphibian Morphogenesis (중력장의 변화가 양서류 초기 발생에 미치는 영향)

  • 본 연구에서는 horizontal clinostat과 원심분리 방법의 이용으로 각각 저중력 상태($\mu$G)와 고중력 상태(3G)를 유도하여, 중력장의 변화가 양서류 수정란의 초기 형태 형성에 미치는 영향을 북방산개구리(Rano dybows비름를 대상으로 조사하였다. 중력장의 변화는 첫번째 수평 분열인 제3분열면의 위치에 영향을 미쳤다. 즉 저중력 상태에서는 분열면이 적도면 근처에서, 또 고중력 상태에서는 분열면이 동물극 근처에서 형성되었다. 이와 같은 변화는 포배기로 이어져 할강의 위치와 동물극 정단 세포층 수에 영향을 미쳤다. 즉 저중력에 노출된 포배는 정상배(1G)에 비해 할강이 중앙에 위치했으며 동물극 정단의 세포층 수가 증가하는 반면 고중력에 노출된 포배는 할강이 보다 동물극 폭에 위치했으며 동물극 정단의 세포층 수도 감소하였다. 그러나 낭배기에 도달하면 동물극 정단 세포층 수의 차이는 정상 상태로 조절되었다. 한편 중력장의 변화는 낭배기에 이르는 발생 속도와 원구상순부의 위치를 변경시켰다. 낭배기 이후의 발생 단계에서 중력에 의한 변화로는 tail fin circulation(stage 22)시기의 머리크기의 변화를 들 수 있다. 이상의 결과로 무미 양서류의 초기 형태 형성은 중력장에 의해 변형될 수 있으며 이러한 변화는 발생이 진행됨에 따라 조절되는 것으로 보인다.

Investigation of Drop Test Method for Simulation of Low Gravity Environment (저중력 환경 모사를 위한 낙하 시험 방법 연구)

  • Understanding the liquid propellant transport phenomena in low gravity is essential for developing Korea Space Launch Vehicle (KSLV) upper-stage for the diversity of space missions. A low-gravity environment can be simulated via the free-fall method on the ground; however, the air drag is inevitable. To reduce air resistance during free fall, air-drag shield is usually adopted. In this study, the free-fall method was performed with an air-drag shield from a 7-m height tower. The acceleration of a falling object was measured and analyzed. Low gravity below 0.01 g was achieved during 1.2-s free fall with the air-drag shield. The minimum gravitational acceleration value at 1.2-s after free fall was ±0.005 g, which is comparable to the value obtained from Bremen drop tower experiments, ±0.002 g. A prolonged free-fall duration may enhance the low-gravity quality during the drop tower experiments.

Analysis of the Flow Rate for a Natural Cryogenic Circulation Loop during Acceleration and Low-gravity Section (극저온 자연순환회로의 가속 및 저중력 구간 유량 분석)

  • Cryogenic propellant rockets utilize a natural circulation loop of cryogenic fluid to cool the engine inlet temperature before launch. The geometric information about the circulation system, such as length and diameter of the pipes and the heat input to the system, defines the mass flow rate of the natural circulation loop. We performed experiments to verify the natural circulation mass flow rate and compared the results with the analytical results. The comparison of the mass flow rate between experiments and numerical simulations showed a 12% offset. We also included a prediction of the natural circulation flow rate in the low-gravity section and in the acceleration section in the upper stage of the launch vehicle. The oxygen tank should have 100 kPa(a) of pressure in the acceleration section to maintain a high flow rate for the natural circulation loop. In the low-gravity section, there should be an optimal tank pressure that leads to the maximum natural circulation flow rate.

Long-Period Wave Oscillations in Sokcho Harbor and Cheongcho Lagoon (1. Field Measurements and Data Analyses) (속초항과 청초호의 부진동 특성 (1. 현장관측과 자료 분석))

  • To investigate long-period wave responses in Sokcho Harbor and Cheongcho lagoon, field measurements were made for long-and short-period waves and current velocities using a Directional Waverider, a ultrasonic-type wave gauge, four pressure-type wave gauges, and a current meter. From the data analysis, it was found that the Helmholtz resonant periods of Sokcho Harbor and Cheongcho lagoon are about 13.6 and 54.5 minutes, respectively, and the dominant period of wave induced current in the passage between Sokcho Harbor and Cheongcho lagoon is about 55.2 minutes which depends on Helmholtz resonant condition of the Cheongcho lagoon. It was also found that the energy level of the far-infra-gravity waves during storm conditions is very high compared with that during calm sea conditions. To investigate relationships between far-infra-gravity waves and short-period waves at offshore station, regression analyses were carried out especially for 1) heights, 2) periods, 3) direction and height, 4) height and period between short-and far-infra-gravity waves, respectively. The results showed that the long-period wave height is highly correlated with the short-period wave height. However, no special trend was found for the other relations. In the future far-infra-gravity wave heights on return period around Sokcho Harbor region can be suggested by using extreme value analyses of long term measured data.

Electromyographical Studies on Experimental Hypocalcemia in Goats (산양(山羊)의 저(低)Ca 혈증(血症)에 관한 근전도학적연구(筋電圖學的硏究))

  • 저(低)Ca혈증(血症)의 주징(主徵)인 기립불능(起立不能)의 발현원인(發現原因)의 추구를 위해 실험적(實驗的) 저(低) Ca혈증(血症)에서 기립불능(起立不能) 나아가 심장운동정지(心臟運動停止)에 이르기까지의 과정을 근전도학적(筋電圖學的)으로 실시한 결과의 내용을 요약하면 다음과 같다. EDTA 주입전(注入前)의 정상기립시(正常起立時)에는 항중력근(抗重力筋)에만 tonic discharge가 얻어졌으나 혈정(血中) Ca 농도(濃度)의 저하정도에 따라 근방전(筋放電)이 달라져 6mg/100ml 전후에서 항중력근(抗重力筋) 및 그의 길항근(拮抗筋)에도 phasic discharge를 수반한 tonic discharge가 동기적(同期的)으로 나타나 이의 현상은 후구탈력(後軀脫力)에 의해 주저앉을 때에도 마찬가지였다. 기립불능(起立不能)의 상태에선 clonic convulsion양(樣)의 근방전(筋放電)이 폐사시까지 계속되었다. 경막외마취(硬膜外痲醉)에 의한 근전도(筋電圖)에선 근방전(筋放電)은 항시 상반적(相反的)이었고 후구마비(後軀痲痺)에 의한 횡와위(橫臥位) 상태에선 어떤 근방전(筋放電)도 얻어지지 않아 EDTA 주입(注入)에 의한 저(低) Ca혈증시(血症時)와 경막외마취시(硬膜外痲醉時)의 기립불능(起立不能)의 본질(本質)은 상위(相違)한 것으로 판명되었다. 또한 저(低)Ca혈증시(血症時)에 수반되는 각종 반사 및 임상증상의 추이(推移)로 저(低)Ca혈증시(血症時)에 수반되는 기립불능은 말초신경계 및 신경일근접합부(神經一筋接合部) 및 근(筋) 자체의 기능저하보다는 중추신경계의 기능저하에 의한 가능성을 크게 시사하는 것으로 보아진다.

Correlation between Storm Waves and Far-Infra-Gravity Waves Observed in kkye Harbor (옥계항에서 관측된 폭풍파와 저중력파의 상호관계)

  • Simultaneous field measurements of short-period and long-period waves were made at five stations inside or outside Okkye Harbor, which is located in the east coast of Korea. Based on the measured data, spacial and temporal variations of the long-period wave energy were examined. Three smoothing methods were examined for the spectral estimates: fixed interval averaging method, incremental interval averaging method, and moving averaging method. It was shown that a proper smoothing method should be chosen depending on the period of first resonant mode and the length of data being used. By comparing the results obtained using the long-term data with those obtained using two-day data, we showed that it is necessary to analyze the data of calm seas and storm seas separately. The Helmholtz resonant period in Okkye Harbor was found to be about 9.6 minutes with its relative amplification ratio of 9 to 10, and local amplifications were apparent at the periods of 1.2 to 1.3 minutes and 0.7 minute. During calm seas, both at the harbor entrance and inside the harbor the energy of the waves of 9 minutes or longer period was larger than the infra-gravity wave energy by more than 100 times. However, during storm seas the energy level was very high all over the period band, and local amplification was larger than that during calm seas by more than 100 times, especially inside the harbor, Finally it was shown that the energies of the Helmholtz resonant mode and the infra-gravity waves of 1 to 2 minutes are proportional to the storm wave height.

Geophysical Investigations of the Grenville Front in Ohio, USA (미국 오하이오주에 위치하는 그랜빌 프런트의 지구물리학적 연구)

  • Seismic reflection profile analysis, potential field analysis, and potential field modeling using deep seismic reflection, gravity, magnetic, and geological data were performed to better understand the location and nature of the Grenville Front in Ohio, USA. The seismic reflection profile reveals a broad zone of east dipping basement reflectors associated with the Grenville Front in western Ohio and a broad region of west dipping reflectors cutting through the entire crust in eastern Ohio. Potential field analysis indicates that the Grenville Front is characterized by a gravity low, an associated gravity positive and a magnetic high. The results of the gravity and magnetic modeling using seismic data suggest that the lower crust is thickened at the interpreted position of the Grenville Front and high grade metamorphic rocks make up the Grenville Front Tectonic Zone (GFTZ). The gravity low at the Grenville Front is due to the thickened crust, while the magnetic high is due to high grade metamorphic rocks. The gravity high immediately east of the GFTZ in central Ohio is caused by thrusting of high density lower and middle crustal rocks into the upper crust. There is no compelling evidence that this gravity high is related to a Precambrian rift zone as has been suggested in previous studies.

  • We have accumulated the knowledge of the phenomena of external nature under the gravity fields of the earth, but have not the data of the natural phenomena under the high or low gravity fields. It is necessary to research the phenomena of the combustion, heat transfer and the behavior of the living animals under the high or low gravity fields. This paper introduces the mysterious universe in high and low gravity fields from the experimental study by Arai et al.

Spatial distribution of hydrocarbon reservoirs in the West Korea Bay Basin in the northern part of the Yellow Sea, estimated by 3D gravity forward modeling (3차원 중력 모델링에 의해 예측된 황해 북부 서한만 분지 석유 저류층의 공간적 분포)

  • Although an amount of hydrocarbon has been discovered in the West Korea Bay Basin (WKBB), located in the North Korean offshore area, geophysical investigations associated with these hydrocarbon reservoirs are not permitted because of the current geopolitical situation. Interpretation of satellite derived potential field data can be alternatively used to image three-dimensional (3D) density distribution in the sedimentary basin associated with hydrocarbon deposits. We interpreted the TRIDENT satellite-derived gravity field data to provide detailed insights into the spatial distribution of sedimentary density structures in the WKBB. We used 3D forward density modeling for the interpretation that incorporated constraints from existing geological and geophysical information. The gravity data interpretation and 3D forward modeling showed that there are two modeled areas in the central subbasin that are characterized by very low density structures, with a maximum density of about $2,000kg/m^3$, indicating some type of hydrocarbon reservoir. One of the anticipated hydrocarbon reservoirs is located in the southern part of the central subbasin with a volume of about $250km^3$ at a depth of about 3,000 m in the Cretaceous/Jurassic layer. The other hydrocarbon reservoir should exist in the northern part of the central subbasin, with an average volume of about $300km^3$ at a depth of about 2,500 m. A comparison between the TRIDENT derived gravity field and the ship-based gravity field measured in 1980s shows us that our results are highly reliable and there is a very high probability to detect another low-density layer existings in the northwestern part of the central subbasin.

Gravity Potential Comparative Analysis around Korean Peninsula by EGM96 and EIGEN-CG01C Models (EGM96와 EIGEN-CG01C 모델에 의한 한반도 주변의 중력포텐셜 비교분석)

  • According to development of satellite geodesy, gravity potential models which have high accuracy and resolution were released. Using the EIGEN-CG01C model based on low orbit satellite data such as CHAMP and GRACE and the EGM96 model, geoid and gravity anomaly were calculated and compared. The study area is located at $123^{\circ}{\sim}132^{\circ}$ E, $33^{\circ}{\sim}43^{\circ}$ including Korea. Comparing two models, very high correlation more than 0.90 in geoid and gravity anomaly was observed, but in amplitude analysis the EIGEN-CG01C model have higher amplitude in high frequency area. Gravity anomaly calculated with both models shows a little difference in North Korea and some coast area of the Yellow sea. Through power spectrum analysis, residual anomaly that can be used in large scale structure or underground resources survey was calculated.
