Mechanism of Radioresistance Induced by Low-Dose Irradiation (저준위 방사선에 의해 유도된 방사선저항의 기전)

  • After high-dose irradiation(8 Gy). the viability of lymphocyte with a prior low-dose irradiation was 3.7-fold higher than that without a prior low-dose irradiation The viability could be increased by the reduction of oxygen radicals or the removal of damaged molecules-DNA, protein. lipid membrane. or the removal of damaged cells. In this paper. we studied the radioresistance mechanism in lymphocytes and lymphoma cells by examining the activities of radical scavengers(catalase. peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase), and a radical protector(glutathione). Different enzymes were induced in lymphocyte and lymphoma with low-dose irradiation. The activity of peroxidase increased most(133.3%) in lymphoma while the enzymes increased most in lymphocyte were superoxide dismutase (138.5%), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (122.4%) and glutathione(120.8%). The activities of these enzymes were highest when the interval was 7 hours between low-dose and high-dose irradiation.

  • 저준위방사선은 인류에 있어서 정말로 나쁜 영향이 있는 것인지. ${\ulcorner}$가능한한 낮게${\lrcorner}$가 상식으로 되어 있는 원자력 세계에 감히 의문을 갖고 이 상식과는 다른 견해를 내세우는 연구자가 나오기 시작하고 있다. 그 연구나 사례는 그 역사나 데이터에서 오늘의 원자력계의 ${\ulcorner}$상식${\lrcorner}$을 타파하기 까지에는 이르지 않지만 하나의 사고 실험으로서는 흥미있는 내용으로 되어 있다.

  • 저준위 환경 방사능 측정에서 가장 문제가 되는 것은 주변의 백그라운드에 의한 영향이다. 백그라운드로는 우주선, 지각 방사선, 그리고 대기중의 방사선 둥이 있다. 이러한 백그라운드를 감소시킬 수 있다면 저준위 방사능 측정의 감도향상은 물론 정확성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 이러한 백그라운드 중에서 대기중의 방사선은 주로 지각으로부터의 라돈 방출에 의하여 기인하게 된다(Eisenbud, 1987 : Thomas, 1972). 방출된 라돈 및 딸핵종들은 대기 중의 먼지에 흡착되어 부유하게 되는데, 부유 먼지에 흡착된 백그라운드의 주요 원인이 된다. A Cohort Study on Cancer Risk by Low-Dose Radiation Exposure among Radiation Workers of Nuclear Power Plants in Korea (저준위 방사선 노출의 암 유발에 관한 국내 원전종사자 코호트 연구)

  • The increased risk of cancer with exposure to low-dose radiation was estimated through longitudinal study for radiation workers at the nuclear power plants in Korea. The radiation dose data were collected from the Radiation Safety Management System(RSMS) of the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd(KHNP). The cancer risks with radiation exposure were evaluated in terms of relative mortality ratios(RMR) and relative incidence ratios(RIR) to the unexposed employees at the nuclear power plants, and of the standardized mortality ratios(SMR) and standardized incidence ratios(SIR). There were no significant increases of canters of all sites in the exposed group either in RIR[1.08, 95% confidence interval(CI) 0.74-1.58] or in RMR[1.21, CI 0.70-2.08]. Neither SIR[0.81, CI 0.28-0.96] nor SMR[0.86, CI 0.66-1.10] significantly deviated from 1.0 for cancers of all sites. The trend analysis did not identify evident dose-response relationship due to insufficient numbers of the cases. Consequently, it is concluded that increases in cancer risks in the radiation worker group exposed to low doses at the nuclear power plants in Korea are not identified at this time.

  • 높은 에너지 밀도, 장 수명 등의 특성을 갖는 리튬계열 축전지는 다양한 어플리케이션에 활용되고 있다. 그러나, 리튬계열 축전지의 열화로 인한 출력 특성 저하는 원전 사고 시, 안정적인 전력 공급을 저해하므로 원전 적용을 위해서 리튬계열 축전지의 열화를 일으키는 방사선에 대한 리튬계열 축전지의 강건성 검토가 필요하다. 본 논문은 방사성 동위원소 Co-60, 총 방사선량 100Gy의 저 준위 방사선 조사 시험을 진행하였으며, 이에 따른 리튬계열 축전지의 특성 비교를 위해서 전기적 특성분석 방법을 이용하였다.

  • The Irradiation test of bar code label tagged on radioactive waste container was done to determine the effect of radiation. Low and medium radioactive waste is that below total activity of 4,000 Bq/g according to the Korean nuclear law. The irradiation amount to radiate bar code label tagged on radioactive waste container was calculated by MCNP-4b computer code. The nuclide such as Co-60 and Cs-137 was assumed to contribute 50% of total activity. Real irradiation amount for bar code label was finally calculated by the dimensions of the container and the bar code label. The Identification of post and the physical deflection of irradiated bar code label was tested by the bar code reader. The coated bar code label was suitable to use on low and medium radioactive waste container.

A Study On Low Radiation Measurement of Radiation Measuring Devices and Improvement of Reaction Speed according to the Rapid Change of Radiation Dose (방사선 측정장치의 저준위 방사선 측정과 방사선량의 급격한 변화에 따른 장치의 반응 속도개선에 관한 연구)

  • This paper suggests an algorithm to measure low-level radiation by radiation measuring devices, and the other algorithm to improve reaction speed of the device to better respond to dramatic changes in radiation amount. The former algorithm to improve the accuracy of measuring low-level radiation takes advantage of a dual window radiation measurement method which is based on accumulated average of pulses gathered by a radiation measuring sensor. The latter algorithm is to enhance reaction speed of a measuring device to more sensitively react to dramatic changes in radiation amount by adopting a dual window radiation measurement method which analyzes data patterns newly put into for six seconds. To verify the suggested algorithms, a hardware-which consists of sensor and high-voltage generator, controller, charger and power supply circuit, wireless communication part, and display part-was used. Tests conducted on the dual window radiation measurement method as used in the suggested algorithm have proved that accuracy improves to measure low-level radiation of 5uSv/h, and linearity also gets better. Other tests were conducted to see whether the suggested algorithm enhances the reaction speed of a radiation measuring device so that the device responds better to dramatically changing radiation amount. The experimental results have shown meaningful changes in numbers after six seconds. Therefore, the conclusions are made that the algorithm enhances the reaction speed of the device.
