Consolidation and Adhesion of Cellulose Nitrate of Folklore Artifacts in the 19~20th Century (19~20세기 생활민속자료에 사용된 셀룰로오스 나이트레이트의 강화와 접착 연구)

  • Cellulose nitrates were used for folklore artifacts(ornamental beads and pipes in hatstrings, frames of eyeglasses, ornamental eyeglass cases, headband ornaments, and jeogori buttons) between the 19th and 20th centuries; however, they are susceptible to cracking, crazing, embrittlement, and crumbling due to deterioration. To consolidate and adhere deteriorated cellulose nitrate folklore artifacts, water-soluble acrylic emulsion adhesives were investigated. For consolidation, Plextol D 498, which has the lowest viscosity in low concentrations, was used. In adhesive films whose glass transition temperature(Tg) is lower than room temperature, the tensile stress and modulus decreased and the strain increased; therefore, the flexibility was high. The Plextol D 498 and Plextol D 498 and Dispersion K 52 films maintained their adhesiveness and flexibility after artificial-sunlight-accelerated ageing, and Plextol D 498 and Dispersion K 52 films hardly caused yellowing. Plextol D 498 was the most stable for accelerating ageing. A low concentration of Plextol D 498 emulsion resulted in the best permeability on the surface of cellulose nitrate, compared with other acrylic emulsions. To prevent ornamental hatstrings from cracking, crazing, embrittlement, and crumbling, a Plextol D 498 emulsion was used. After applying low concentrations(1%, 3%) of the emulsion to consolidate the fragments and high concentration to adhere the fragments, the ornamental hatstrings were protected from crumbling by deterioration, and their fragments were well-adhered. To preserve it from deterioration by oxygen and humidity, the treated ornament was sealed with an oxygen-barrier film using a low-humidity oxygen scavenger.

Studies on the Effects of Amylase Addition to Rice Extrusion on the Rheological Properties of the Extrudate for Weaning Food Base (압출조리를 이용한 쌀 이유식 제조에서 아밀라제 첨가가 물성변화에 미치는 효과)

  • The effects of amylase addition during extrusion cooking of rice on the physico-chemical properties of the extrudates were investigated in order to develop rice-based Korean style weaning food products. A laboratory-built single screw extruder was used, the enzymes used were Termamyl 120LS(amylase from Bacillus licheniformis, NOVO Co.), BAN 240L(amylase from Bacillus amylolichuefaciens, NOVO Co.) and malt powder. By the addition of enzymes, the water soluble index of the extrudates increased by 3 times compared to that of the extrudates without enzyme and the concentration of reducing sugar in the extrudates increased drastically at 28 feed moisture. The gel permeation chromatographic pattern showed that the large molecular starch fractions diminished by the addition of enzyme during extrusion and the low molecular fraction increased. The residual enzyme activity in the extrudate were 27% for the most thermo-resistance enzyme by treating at $140^{\circ}C$ in the metering section of the extruder. The sediment volume of the extrudate dispersion increased as the metering section temperature increased to $140^{\circ}C$ . By the addition of enzymes the viscosity of extrudate dispersion was redused $1/4{\sim}1/200$ of that of the extrudates without enzyme. It allowed to use 1.8 times of solid material to the weaning food formulation to attain the same level of consistency as the commercial products. It proves that the addition of amylase during rice extrusion is effective to increase the energy density of weaning food by starch degradation, which results in the increases of water solubility, reducing sugar content, dispersibility and fluidability.

Effect of Gamma Irradiation on the Physical Properties of Alginic Acid and λ-Carrageenan (감마선 조사가 알긴산과 카라기난의 물리적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to find the effect of ${\gamma}$ -irradiation on the physical properties of alginic acid and ${\lambda}$-carrageenan solution. Alginic acid and ${\lambda}$-carrageenan aqueous solution were irradiated with $Co^{60}$ ${\gamma}$ -rays in dosages ranging from 3 to 100 kGy, and then the molecular weight, viscosity and color were measured. The molecular weight of alginic acid and ${\lambda}$-carrageenan solution were decreased as the ${\gamma}$ -irradiation dosage increased. In addition, the viscosity of irradiated alginic acid and ${\lambda}$-carrageenan solution were decreased depending upon the ${\gamma}$ -irradiation dosage, too. The high dosage irradiated alginic acid and ${\lambda}$-carrageenan solution's color were changed to yellow. These results suggest that low dosage of ${\gamma}$ -irradiation from 3 to 20 kGy is a very effective method for producing low-molecular alginic acid and ${\lambda}$-carrageenan.

Reduction of Dehydrated Cake by the Optimization of Flocculation Factors and the Single Flocculant/Dual Flocculation System (응집인자 최적화 및 다단응집 시스템을 이용한 탈수 케이크 감량)

  • The flocculation characteristics of polyacrylamide base flocculants were estimated to reduce the moisture content of the dehydrated cakes. The dewaterability for sewage sludge was found to have a marked effect depending on the flocculant type, agitating speed and time, kind of dissolution water, etc. The optimal agitating speed and time were 700 rpm and 3 sec, respectively, in this experimental condition. and the dewaterability was proportion to the agitating speed upto 700rpm. When recycle water as the dissolution water was used, the solution viscosity of all kind of flocculants was decreased. However, the change of its viscosity are not proportioned to the dewaterabilities for each flocculant. Flocculation system of combinations of the first and sencond flocculation using single flocculant was investigated. Effects of the ratio of first and second dosage for dual flocculation on the dewaterability were also investigated. The optimum conditions of dual flocculation system are 75% and 50% as first dosages for low and high viscous flocculant for total dosage of common flocculation, respectively. Based on the results, an overall mechanism of dual flocculation system is proposed and it is envisaged that optimization of flocculation processes in this way can result in considerable savings in cost.

Shampoo Characteristics of Botanical Extract Containing Green Tea, Saururus chinensis and Prunus padus (녹차, 삼백초, 귀룽나무 등을 포함한 식물성 추출물의 샴푸로서의 특성)

  • In this research, botanical extracts containing green tea, Saururus chinensis and Prunus padus were tested to see possibility as shampoo. Leaves of Green tea and Saururus chinensis were extracted with hot water. Prunus padus bark extract was applied reverse osmosis and ultrasonic extraction. When interfacial tension was measured among shampoo including botanical extracts, Sodium dodecylsulfate(SDS) and Quillaja Bark Saponin(QBS), that of shampoo was lower than that of SDS and QBS at lower concentration, however, it showed similar interfacial tension at 100% concentration. Shampoo showed moderate antimicrobial activity in Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. Botanical extract did not indicate cell toxicity up to $350{\mu}g/ml$ concentration in MTT assay. Shampoo containing botanical extract was stable for 3 months, however, it showed considerable variation in pH and viscosity. In conclusion, shampoo containing botanical extract shows strong possibility for natural shampoo if the formulation is modified.

Streptococcus thermophilus K-1 및 Lactobacillus acidophilus LB12 균주에 있어 최대 Exopolysaccharide 생산에 영향을 미치는 물리적 원인 규명을 위한 연구

  • EPS를 생성하는 Str. thermophilus K-1 및 Lb. acidophilus LB12를 10% 환원 탈지유에 배양하고, EPS 생산을 위한 배지로는 Elliker broth를 사용하여 20, 25 및 $37^{\circ}C$에서 72시간까지 저장하면서 12시간 간격으로 시료를 꺼내어 EPS생산량, 생균수, 산도 및 점도 등을 측정하여 EPS생산과 이들 물리저 요인들과의 상호관계를 조사하였다. Str. thermophilus K-1의 경우, $20^{\circ}C,\;37^{\circ}C$에 저장한 시료의 EPS 생산량은저장 60시간에 각각 0.358, 0.386O.D.로 최대를 나타내었으며, 저장 72시간에는 다소 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. $25^{\circ}C$에 저장한 시료는 저장 36시간부터 O.D. 0.313으로 급속히 증가하여 72시간까지 그 수준을 거의 유지하는 것으로 나타났다. Lb. acidophilus CH-2의 경우에는 25, $37^{\circ}C$에서는 EPS생산이 서서히 증가하다가, 36, 48시간에 0.775, 0.833O.D.로 각각 최대를 나타낸 후에 다시 서서히 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며, 저장 $20^{\circ}C$에서는 저장 60시간에 1.123O.D.로 EPS생산이 최대에 도달한 후 저장 72시간에는 다시 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 이 두균주의 세 가지 배양 온도에서 EPS가 최대를 나타내는 시점은 생균수가 감소하는 시점과 일치하므로, 균주 및 배양온도에 상관없이 균성장 말기 또는 균사멸기 초기에 EPS가 가장 많이 생산됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한 점도 및 산도는 저장 온도가 높을수록, 그리고 저장 기간이 길어질수록 대체로 많이 생성되는 것으로 나타났으며, EPS생산과의 유의성도 상당히 높은 것으로 나타났다. 것들이 부딛힘이 없이 공존하고 일상의 논리가 무시된다. 부정, 의심이 없고 확실한 것이 없다. 한 대상에 가졌던 생각이 다른 대상에 옮겨간다(displacement). 한 대상이 여러 대상이 갖고 있는 의미를 함축하고 있다(condensation). 시각적인 순서가 무시된다. 마음속의 생각과 외부의 실제적인 일을 구분하지 못한다. 시간 상의 순서가 있다가 없다가 한다. 차례로 일어나야 할 일이 동시에 한꺼번에 일어난다. 대상들이 서로 비슷해지고 동시에 있을 수 없는 대상들이 함께 나타난다. 사고의 정상적인 구조가 와해된다. Matte-Blance는 무의식에서는 여러 독립된 대상들간의 구분을 없애며, 주체와 객체를 하나로 보려는 대칭화(symmetrization)의 경향이 있기 때문에 이런 변화가 생긴다고 하였다. 또 대칭화가 진행되면 무한대의 느낌을 갖게 되어, 전지(moniscience), 전능(omnipotence), 무력감(impotence), 이상화(idealization)가 나타난다. 그러나 무의식에 대칭화만 있는 것은 아니며, 의식의 사고양식인 비대칭도 어느 정도 나타나며, 대칭화의 정도에 따라, 대상들이 잘 구분되어 있는 단계, 의식수준의 감정단계, 집단 내에서의 대칭화 단계, 집단간에서의 대칭화 단계, 구분이 없어지는 단계로 구분하였다.systems. A study of sintering behavior of spray coating in CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 glasses on Al2O3 substrate (CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 계 유리 스프레이 코팅막의 소성 거동에 대한 연구)

  • Two types of CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 (CAS) glass powder applied spray coating on the surface of sintered Al2O3 were researched for sintering behavior; (1) Si-rich, glass containing high content SiO2, (2) Ca-rich, containing high content CaO. Foaming of bubbles remaining inside the Ca-rich glass was produced at a viscosity of approximately 107~109 poise, resulting in decreasing shrinkage (interfering with sintering) and increasing surface roughness. In case of Si-rich glass, there was no serious foaming bubbles phenomenon like Ca-rich below 1000℃, however cristobalite crystals with low density occurred at 1200℃ and then produced re-foaming of bubbles, resulting in abnormal sintering behavior. These phenomenon is considered to be a decrease in viscosity due to an increase in the Ca content of the glass according to the formation of low-density cristobalite crystals. Therefore, in case of CAS glass, it is necessary to consider the increase of surface roughness and the sintering interference because of foaming bubbles phenomenon at low temperature sintering. Especially, when containing high SiO2 content, abnormal foaming phenomenon due to crystallization at high temperature should be predicted.

Rheological Properties of Pork Myofibrillar Protein and Sodium Caseinate Mixture as Affected by Transglutaminase with Various Incubation Temperatures and Times (Transglutaminase를 첨가한 돈육 근원섬유단백질과 카제인염 혼합물의 배양온도와 시간에 따른 물성변화)

  • To investigate the rheological properties of protein mixed gels mediated by microbial transglutaminase (MTGase), pork myofibrillar protein (MFP), sodium caseinate (SC) and their mixture (MS), the various gels were incubated at different temperatures for various times. Extracted MFP, SC and their mixture (MS, 1:1) were incubated at different temperatures ($4^{\circ}C$ vs $37^{\circ}C$) for various times (0, 0.5, 2, 4 hr), and assessed for viscosity, gel strength and other characteristics using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). DSC measurements showed that incubation at $37^{\circ}C$ rather than $4^{\circ}C$ caused marked changes in thermal transition, and MS displayed similar thermal curves (three endothermic transitions) to MFP and SC alone. After incubation at $37^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs, the viscosity (cP) of MS increased (p<0.05) due to induction by MTGase, whereas no differences were observed at $4^{\circ}C$. However, gel strength values were no different, regardless of incubation temperatures and times. Future research will address how longer incubation times affect the functionality of protein mixed gels mediated by MTGase.

Functional Properties of Fish Skin Gelatin Hydrolysate from a Continuous Two-Stage Membrane Reactor (2단계 막반응기에서 연속적으로 생산된 어피젤라틴 가수분해물의 기능성)

  • The fish skin gelatin hydrolysates were produced using a continuous two-stage membrane (MWCO 10,000, MWCO 5,000) reactor, and molecular weights, amino acids and functional properties of the hydrolysates were investigated. The major molecular weights distribution of the major fractions were $8{\sim}10\;KDa$ and $4.5{\sim}6.5\;KDa$ in the 1st-step hydrolysates, $2{\sim}6\;KDa$ and $0.5{\sim}2\;KDa$ in the 2nd-step hydrolysates. Among the amino acids in the hydrolysates, glycine, proline, serine, alanine, hydroxyproline, glutamic acid and aspartic acid having sweet taste were responsible for $68{\sim}72%$ of the total amino acids. But valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, phenylalanine and histidine having a bitter taste were only $23{\sim}25%$ Taste evaluations show that the gelatin hydrolysates have a brothy and sweet taste, 2nd-step hydrolysate have more a favorable taste than 1st-step hydrolysate. The hydrolysates were completely soluble and clear over the entire pH range. Moisture sorption at intermediate water activities of the 2nd-step hydrolysate was much higher than the unmodified fish skin gelatin, but foaming and emulsification properties were poor. Buffer capacity of the 2nd-step hydrolysate was higher than the fish skin gelatin and 1st-step hydrolysate, while viscosities of the hydrolysates were lower than the fish skin gelatin.

Synthesis and Characterization of UV-curable Aliphatic Epoxy Acrylate (자외선 경화형 지방족 에폭시 아크릴레이트의 합성 및 특성분석)

  • UV-curable aliphatic epoxy acrylates were prepared by the reaction of glycerol diglycidyl ether (GDE) with 2-carboxyethyl acrylate (2-CEA) or 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (2-HEA). The structures of the epoxy acrylates were characterized by FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, and $^{13}C$-NMR and the yield was obtained by prep-LC. The UV- and the thermal-curing behaviors of the product were investigated using photo-DSC and DSC, respectively. The reactivity of 2-CEA was higher than 2-HEA and the yield of the product (GEA-C) which was prepared using 2-CEA was about 83%. The maximum UV-curing time ($T_{max}$) of the GEA-C contained non-reactive components and by-product was about 10 seconds. The GEA-C showed low color difference (${\Delta}E^*$), low viscosity, and good thermal stability - its value was 2.51, 192 cps, and $299^{\circ}C$ (at 5% weight loss), respectively. The activation energies ($E_a$) of thermal-curing reaction calculated from Kissinger and Ozawa-Flynn-Wall method were 91~92 kJ/mol.
