  • Presently, mass concrete structures are being built in federal and private projects of civil infrastructures and building structures. The hydration heat of mass concrete structures is the most important factor in the quality of concrete matrix and construction period. Moreover, internal cracks caused by hydration heat degrades durability, water tightness, and strength of concrete. To reduce hydration heat, it is necessary to blend belite cement (${\beta}-C_2S$) with industrial by-products (i.e. granulated slag and fly ash). In this experiment, 14 levels of binary binders and 4 levels of ternary binders were used to understand the effect of different replacement ratio on hydration heat, strength and microstructure (i.e. SEM and XRD) of mortar. Cumulative hydration heat at 28 days for the binary and ternary binders was affected by replacement ratio of fly ash and/or granulated slag. As fly ash content increased, hydration heat decreased. As granulated slag content increased, reduction rate of the hydration heat was lower than when fly ash was used. Especially, the hydration heat of ternary binder blended with 40% flyash and 30% granulated slag showed about 50% of hydration heat from using belite cement (P). The study results showed that the temperature rise of concrete matrix can be decreased by using blended belite binders producing low hydration heat and reasonable strength.

  • Immersion tests with artificial seawater were carried out to investigate the resistance to seawater attack of 5 types of cement matrices. From the results of compressive strength and length change, it was found that blended cement mortars due to mineral admixtures, were superior to portland cement mortars with respect to the resistance to seawater attack. Moreover, XRD analysis indicated that the peak intensity ratio of low heat portland cement(LHC) paste, in portland cement pastes, had better results, and so did that of blended cement Paste. Pore volume of pastes by mercury intrusion porosimetry method demonstrated that total pore volume of ordinary portland cement(OPC) paste had a remarkable increase comparing with that of other pastes. In case of immersion of artificial seawater, the use of ground granulated blast-furnace slag and fly ash, however, showed the beneficial effects of 56% and 32% in reduction of total pore volume, respectively.

  • In recent years, concrete construction have become larger and higher and are demanding high performance concrete with lower heat to prevent thermal cracking, far greater workability, high strength and durability. Application of low heat portland(Type IV) cement for the high performance concrete is the best solution to satisfied those requirements. Here are explained the basic properties of fresh concrete as well as hardened concrete of high performance concrete using low that portland cement.

  • A Cement account for the most amount than other materials in the material composition of ultra-high-performance concrete. If we especially consider the effect of high temperature curing on the cement hydration and the problems of autogenous shrinkage, heat of hydration we need selection of proper cement type by grasping influence of cement in the properties of UHPC. Therefore, in this paper we examined properties of fluidity, compressive strength and elastic modulus of UHPC due to domestic portland cement types. In results, we could get a result that the low heat cement increase fluidity, compressive strength in UHPC compare with high early strength cement and ordinary portland cement. we are systematically going to examination on the influence of UHPC by domestic portland cement types.

  • This paper is to investigate the engineering properties of the concrete incorporating different types of low heat generating binders subjected to various W/B. As expected, it is found that increase of W/B resulted in a decrease of hydration heat and compressive strength. It also showed that the application of high early strength and low carbon type mixture had favorable strength development at early and later age, while hydration heat showed rather higher than existing low heat mixture.

  • Cement Fineness Modulus (CFM) is a method of expressing the distribution of particle sizes of cement in numeric form. If CFM is controlled through crush process of cement without modifying the chemical components or mineral composition of cement, it is judged to be able to produce a cement satisfying various requirements because it is estimated to enable various approaches to cement such as high early strength, moderate heat, low heat cement and so on. Therefore, in this study, as basic research for manufacturing special cement utilizing the controls of CFM, the intention was to review the impacts of CFM on the fundamental properties of concrete. To summarize the result, as mixture characteristics of fresh concrete, ratio of small aggregate and unit quantity were gradually increased, securing greater fluidity, with an increase in CFM, while the amount of AE and SP were reduced gradually. In addition, setting time was delayed as CFM increased. Furthermore, compression strength was relatively high during initial aging as CFM became smaller, but as time passed, compression strength became smaller, and it showed the same level of strength as aging time passed about three years.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the new eco water tank which is made of high density polyethylene and concrete with low temperature cement. The strength and failure mode of eco water tank was examined through tensile test with mixture of concrete and HDPE, temperature monitoring for various kind of concrete, admixture contains etc. The strength and failure mode were examined through tensile test with mixture of concrete and HDPE, temperature monitering for different kinds of concrete, strength test with different admixtures etc. It was found that shear connector between concrete and HDPE effects significantly contributed to the combined structures. ㄱ type shear connector results in tensile strength of up to 40% compared to that of V type shear connector. Based on test result, the new eco composite tank improved the stability and safety the old one and demonstrated the applicability and capability.

  • In this study, deterioration degrees of concrete were investigated at laboratory under seawater attack and cycling freeze-thaw, which are major durability performance deterioration factors of concrete. Deteriorations of mixed concrete using Portland & blended cement were examined by instrumental analysis of changes in relative dynamic modulus of elasticity and compressive strength. After 520 cycles of freeze-thaw, relative dynamic modulus of elasticity and compressive strength of concrete mixed with normal Portland and LHC over 75% showed relatively low resistance of approximately 44% of those values of SRC. Concrete replaced with 50% fine powder of blast furnace slag showed the most excellent freeze-thaw resistance among the tested blended cement concrete.
