The purpose of this study was to provide suggestions for the effective management of e-journals in academic libraries. Existing literatures were reviewed, web sites were examined, and informal interviews with librarians were conducted. This study comprehensively discussed various aspects of e-journal management, including 1) user behavior, 2) selection, acquisition, and evaluation, 3) access and search, 4) user education and its promotion, 5) archiving, 6) open access, 7) collection development policy.

This paper aims to propose the most appropriate method for calculating the journal PageRank in a domestic citation database. Korean journals show relatively high journal self-citation ratios and have many outgoing citations to external journals which are not included in the domestic citation database. Because the PageRank algorithm requires recursive calculation to converge, those two characteristics of domestic citation databases must be accounted for in order to measure the citation impact of Korean journals. Therefore, two PageRank calculation methods and four formulas for self-citation adjustment have been examined and tested for KSCD journals. The results of the correlation analysis and regression analysis show that the SCImago Journal Rank formula with the cr2 type self-citation adjustment method seems to be a more appropriate way to measure the relative impact of domestic journals in the Korean Science Citation Database.

학자의 연구능력과 성과를 질적인 면을 포함하여 제대로 가늠하지 못하는 사회에서는 대신 몇몇 평가지표가 등장하는데, 한국에서는 영향력지수(Impact Factor)와 함께 많이 사용되는 것이 Nature와 Science 저널에 실린 논문이다. 두 저널은 과학의 전 분야를 대상으로 하며, 영향력지수가 25-35점으로 다른 저널(예: Astrophysical Journal ~6점)보다 월등히 높아 세간에서 '매우 좋은' 저널로 불리며, 여기에 실리는 논문이 '뛰어난' 논문으로 평가되고 있다. 우리는 2006-2010년의 5년간 두 저널에 실린 논문의 통계를 분석하였다. 전체 논문의 수는 7788편이며 생명과학 논문이 62.4%, 물리과학 논문이 37.0%를 차지한다. 천문학 논문의 수는 544편인데, 이는 전체 논문 중에는 7.0%를 차지하고 물리과학 논문 중에는 18.9%를 차지한다. 평균적으로 매년 Nature에는 약 64편, Science에는 약 45편의 천문학 논문이 실렸다. 천문학 논문들의 경우 세부 분야별 논문의 비율과 사용한 장비의 분포를 조사하였다. 전체 논문 중 국내의 한국인 저자가 포함된 논문은 86편인데 이는 전체 논문 중 1.10%에 해당한다. 이들의 물리(25.6%), 화학(16.3%), 생명과학(29.1%), 지구과학(12.8%), 공학(16.3%) 분야별 비율을 구했다. 천문학 분야의 국내 한국인 저자 논문은 7편에 해당한다. 본 발표에서는 우리가 구한 여러 가지 통계치와 시사점을 제시하고자 한다.

최근 무인 감시 시스템 분야에서 리눅스 기반 DVR(Digital Video Recording)시스템의 사용이 늘어나고 있다. DVR시스템은 기존의 아날로그 비디오영상 기록을 대체하여, 카메라에서 입력받은 아날로그 신호를 디지털화(MPEG또는 MJPEG)된 영상을 하드디스크에 저장하는 방법으로 작동하는 주기적으로 빈번한 하드디스크의 쓰기 작업을 수행한다. 또 기록되는 내용의 특성상 높은 신뢰도가 요구된다. 따라서 저장장치의 신뢰도가 중요하며, 만일의 사태에 발생할 수 있는 시스템 고장에도 저장된 정보의 손실을 최소화해야 한다. 저널링 파일시스템은 이러한 요구사항에 적합한 기능을 갖추고 있으며 최근 사용범위가 넓어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 리눅스 시스템에서 널리 사용되는 4가지 저널링 파일시스템의 상대적인 읽기, 쓰기 및 복구 성능을 비교 평가하고 이를 바탕으로 고 신뢰도의 DVR시스템에 요구되는 적절한 저널링 파일시스템을 제안한다.

A single write operation in a file system can modify multiple data, but these changes in the file system are not atomically written to disk. Thus, for the consistency of the file system, conventional journaling guarantees crash consistency instead of sacrificing the system performance. It is known that using non-volatile memory as a journal space can alleviate performance degradation due to low latency and byte-level accessibility of non-volatile memory. However, none of the journaling techniques considering non-volatile memory provide scalability. In this paper, journal space on non-volatile memory is divided into multiple regions for scalable journaling, thus dispersing concentrated operations in one region. Second, the journal area-specific operator structure is used to accelerate data write operations to storage devices. We apply the proposed technique to JFS to evaluate it on multi-core servers equipped with high-performance storage devices. The evaluation results show that the proposed technique performs better than the existing technique of the NVM-based journaling file system.

연구개발활동에 관한 평가를 수행할 때, 가장 많이 사용되어 온 방법이 동료평가(peer review)방법이지만, 최근에는 동료평가가 가지는 문제점을 보완하기 위해 정량지표(bibliometric indicator)의 도입이 다각적으로 검토되고 있다. 여기서는 이를 위해 새로운 정량지표로서 첫째, 동료평가와 정량지표의 점수 배분비율로 각각 $70\%$와 $30\%$로 하고 둘째, 과거 5년 간 가장 우수한 논문 10편만을 대상으로 정량지표를 작성하며 셋째, 각 논문이 게재된 저널이 속한 분야 저널들의 impact factor 순위를 백분율로 적용하여 이에 따른 가중치를 적용하는 방식이 바람직하며 넷째, 논문에서의 저자 역할에 따라 점수를 차등화하고 공동저자의 논문 실적이 주저자의 논문실적에 의해 결정되도록 하는 방식을 제안하고 있다. 이와 같은 정량지표는 과거의 정량지표가 가지고 있었던 한계를 상당 부분 극복할 수 있을 뿐 아니라 동료평가를 보완하는 방법으로 사용될 수 있다.

1987년 7월 20일자로 창간해 이번호로 꼭 110호를 발행하면서 5주년을 맞게 된 "출판저널"은 책의 문화를 자극하고 가꾸는 보람 속에 지난 시간을 보내왔다. 이 보람은 단순히 "출판저널"만의 노력으로 이뤄진 것이 아니라 유관 단체들의 적극적이고 끊임없는 서원에 힘입은 것이 사실이다. 창간 5주년 기념호를 발행하면서 출판관련기관 단체장들의 애정어린 평가와 격려, 충고의 말씀을 듣고자 지면을 마련했다.
