다빈치나 보티첼리의 작품은 잘 그린 그림이라는 것을 쉽게 공감할 수 있지만 피카소의 그림을 보면 어딘가 불편함을 느낄 뿐 훌륭한 작품이라는 생각을 하긴 쉽지 않다. 이러한 불편한 느낌은 잭슨 폴록의 작품에서 극에 달해 현대미술이 과연 미술작품으로 불릴 수 있는지에 대한 의구심마저 든다. 피카소의 작품은 최소한 그림처럼 보기긴 했지만 잭슨 폴록의 작품은 캔버스에 물감을 휘갈겨 뿌렸을 뿐 그 속에서 그림이라고 불릴만한 요소를 찾긴 어렵기 때문이다. 하지만 이렇게 혼란스러운 추상화도 과학의 눈으로 보면 놀랍게도 그림이 보인다. 과학은 예술과 서로 대척점에 있는 것이 아니라 예술을 이해할 수 있는 또 하나의 방법이다.

1989년 네일버프(B. Nalebuff)에 의해서 두 봉투의 역설이 제시된 이래 많은 철학자들이 이 역설에 많은 논의가 있었데 이 역설에 대한 논의를 다시 촉발시킨 글은 1997년의 잭슨(F. Jackson)과 멘지스(P. Menzies)와 오피(G. Oppy)가 발표한 논문이다. 이 글은 잭슨 등의 논문에서 제시된 두 봉투의 역설에 대한 설명을 토대로 두 봉투의 역설이 생긴다고 생각하는 이유는 무엇이고, 구체적으로 어떤 경우에 역설이 생길 수 있는지를 살펴본다. 그리하여 필자는 다음 두 가지를 주장할 것이다 첫째 두 봉투의 역설이라고 불리는 것은 봉투에 들어있는 금액이 무한하고 동시에 그 금액의 평균값이 무한한 경우만 발생할 수 있을 뿐이고, 이는 내가 선택한 봉투 안의 기대값을 실제로 계산할 수 없는 경우이다. 둘째로 기대값이 실제로 계산될 수 있는 그 외의 경우, 역설은 발생하지 않으며 역설이 발생한다고 생각하는 것은 자신의 봉투 안의 금액을 고정적인 것으로 상대방의 금액을 가변적인 것으로 해석하는 잘못으로부터 기인하는 것이다. 요컨대 기대값이 계산될 수 있는 일반적인 경우 두 봉투의 역설이 생긴다고 생각하는 것은 잘못이고 그 경우 역설은 발생하지 않는다는 것을 논증할 것이다.

In this study, an analysis is performed for comparing the fractal dimension of Jackson Pollock's art works with that of Korean Infomel art works. In order to test the hypothesis that Jackson Pollock's fractal dimension is different from Korean Informel's, data is collected for the fractal dimensions of 30 Jackson Pollock's and 45 Korean Informel art works. The results show that Korean Informel's fractal dimension is larger than Jackson Pollock's. This might be interpreted that the pattern (in finer scale) of Korean Informel art works is closer to planes, rather than lines or points, compared to that of Jackson Pollock's.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the stage costumes of Michael Jackson, and how it was reflected in contemporary fashion. The study reviewed fashion related articles, book, journals, and online fashion sites in order to look at the stage costumes used by Michael Jackson from 1979 to 2001 from 'Off the wall' to 'Invincible'. The study examined the 2001 S/S~2016 S/S seasons of the world's 4 major $pr{\hat{e}}t$-${\acute{a}}$-porte collections to identify cases that used at least two fashion factors of Michael Jackson's style. The study result is as follows: First, Michael Jackson wore black tuxedoes with bow ties, ankle-length pants, white socks, black loafers, arm bands and other various accessories. Second, many of Jackson's fashion traits, such as military style golden embroidery detail and emblems, Brandenburgs, and also appeared in many collections. Third, Jackson's glitter style included spangle and cubic accessories, which were used along with hologram and metallic materials. Accessories, such as cubic gloves and socks, and fedoras were worn with the costume. Lastly, his diverse style, which included fencing shirts, letterman jacket and magic suits, can be found in different forms in modern fashion. Michael Jackson was one of the trendsetters in popular fashion in the 1970s~1990s, and continuously inspires fashion designers in the 21st century. In this aspect, the Michael Jackson style is deemed highly significant in the fashion history.

In order to explain why begging the question is a fallacy, some of the challenges must be met. First we need to understand what begging the question is in subtle ways. In addition, it is necessary to reflect on the nature and the purpose of arguments in order to explain why begging the question is a fallacy. In this paper, I first have a general proposal about the main purpose of arguments. Then I place my own multi-layered theory of begging the question proposed in a previous study in the context of the proposals in this paper for the main purpose of arguments. Moreover, I develop a more comprehensive theory of why begging the question is a fallacy. Finally, I examine and criticize the main previous theories of begging the question, such as Frank Jackson's theory, Douglas Walton's theory, David Sanford's theory, John Biro's theory.

이 논문은 '만약(If)$\sim$라면, (then) ...이다.' 형식의 조건문 중에서도 직설법적 조건문의 적법한 사용이 어떠한 조건을 만족시켜야 하는가에 대한 글이다. 일반적으로 직설법적 조건문은 발화자가 전건을 확신하지 못하는 인식적 상태를 표현하는 것으로 이해되며, 가정법적 조건문은 전건이 성립하는 특정한 세계에 대한 진술로 이해된다. 직설법적 조건문의 인식적 수용조건을 도출하기 위해, 기존 이론의 조건문의 수용과 주장을 진리조건적으로 설명하는 것이 불만족스럽다. 기존 이론의 문제점을 고찰하여 보면, 한 언어의 유창한 사용자가 조건문에 대해서 기대하고 있는바가 무엇인지, 그리고 적절한 직설법적 조건문의 사용이 어떤 조건을 요구하는지가 드러난다. 그리고 이 요구를 수용함으로써 직설법적 조건문에 대한 대안적 사용 조건인 '인식적 수용조건'을 정식화 할 수 있다.

The insertion of the crowbar system in the doubly fed induction generator rotor circuit for a short period of time during grid disturbance enables a more efficient way of limiting transient rotor current and hence protecting the rotor side converter (RSC) and the DC - link capacitor. When crowbar is activated at fault occurrence and clearance time, RSC is blocked while DC -link capacitor and the grid side converter (GSC) can be controlled to provide reactive power support at the PCC and improve the voltage which helps to comply with grid codes. In this paper, control strategies for crowbar system to limit the rotor current during fault is presented with RSC and GSC controllers are modified to control PCC voltage during disturbance to enhance DFIG wind farm to comply with some strict grid codes. Model simulated on MATLAB/Simulink verify the study through simulation results presented.

Patients entering an emergency care center in a hospital usually visit medical processes in different orders depending on the urgency level and the medical treatments required. We formulate the patient flows among diverse processes in an emergency care center using the Jackson network, which is one of the queueing networks, in order to evaluate the system performances such as the expected queue length and the expected waiting time. We present a case study based on actual data collected from an emergency care center in a hospital, in order to prove the validity of applying the Jackson network model in practice. After assessing the current system performances, we provide operational strategies to reduce waiting at the bottleneck processes and evaluate the impact of those strategies on the entire system.
