Development of Automatic Sorting System for Black Plastics Using Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) (LIBS를 이용한 흑색 플라스틱의 자동선별 시스템 개발)

  • Used small household appliances have a wide variety of product types and component materials, and contain high percentage of black plastics. However, they are not being recycled efficiently as conventional sensors such as near-infrared ray (NIR), etc. are not able to detect black plastic by types. In the present study, an automatic sorting system was developed based on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to promote the recycling of waste plastics. The system we developed mainly consists of sample feeder, automatic position recognition system, LIBS device, separator and control unit. By applying laser pulse on the target sample, characteristic spectral data can be obtained and analyzed by using CCD detectors. The obtained data was then treated by using a classifier, which was developed based on artificial intelligent algorithm. The separation tests on waste plastics also were carried out by using a lab-scale automatic sorting system and the test results will be discussed. The classification rate of the radial basis neural network (RBFNNs) classifier developed in this study was about > 97%. The recognition rate of the black plastic by types with the automatic sorting system was more than 94.0% and the sorting efficiency was more than 80.0%. Automatic sorting system based on LIBS technology is in its infant stage and it has a high potential for utilization in and outside Korea due to its excellent economic efficiency.

  • 본 연구에서는 Ag anisotropic conductive adhesive(ACA)의 종류, 경화 조건 및 안테나 패턴의 재질에 따른 flip chip bonding된 RFID die의 접합부 신뢰성이 조사되었다. 접합강도 측정에 의하여 접합강도가 최적화되는 공정 시간을 결정할 수 있었으며, 그러한 최적의 공정조건에서는 paste-type Ag ink로 인쇄된 안테나 상에서의 RFID die의 접합강도가 Cu 재질 안테나에 비해 상대적으로 높게 측정됨을 알 수 있었다. RFID tag의 인식거리 측정 시험을 통하여 적절한 경화 조건이 적용된다면 안테나의 재질이 인식거리 변화에 가장 주요한 영향을 미치는 인자임을 알 수 있었다. 아울러 Cu 안테나 패턴은 RFID die의 접합 과정에서 곡률을 가지며 휘어지면서 인식거리와 관련된 long-tem reliability를 악화시킬 수 있음을 관찰할 수 있었다.

  • Used small household appliances(small e-waste) consists of a variety of complex materials and components. The small e-waste is mainly composed of plastics and an important potential source of waste plastic. The black plastics, particularly are very difficult to separate by resin type and therefore these are mainly recycled in the form of a mixtures. In the present study, the sorting technologies such as gravity and electro static separation, near-infrared ray(NIR) and IR/Raman optical sorting separation on mixture of black plastics were analyzed and their limitations on sorting process were also investigated. The Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy(LIBS) spectrum of each black plastics was used for identification of black plastics by resin type, and after analyzing the normalization operation, Principal Component Analysis(PCA) was carried out. The spectrum data was optimized through PCA process. In order to improve the identification accuracy and sorting efficiency of black plastics, it is necessary to design a classifier with high efficiency and to improve the performance and reliability of the classifier by applying the field of intelligent algorithms.

  • This paper describes a noble robot sensor designed to recognize an unknown material by measuring its thermal conductivity on various ambient temperature. The excellent agreement has been obtained between the measured sensor temperature and the calculated sensor temperature by cubic spline interpolation. The active sensor to measure the thermal conductivity of a gripped object was designed and the software program using C language to discriminate objects made of different materials was developed. The temperature response characteristics of different materials on the same ambient temperature was investigated. The temperatures on three comparing points varied linearly and had parallel relation with one another in accordance with various ambient temperature.

  • This paper describes a system that can be used to recognize unknown materials regardless of the change in ambient temperature by using temperature response curve fitting and fuzzy neural network(FNN). There are problems with a recognition system which utilize temperature responses. It requires too many memories to store the vast temperature response data and it has to be filtered to remove the noise which occurs in experiments. Thus, this paper proposes a practical method using curve fitting to remove the above problems of memories and noise. Also, the FNN is proposed to overcome the problem caused by the change of ambient temperature. Using the FNN which is learned by temperature responses on fixed ambient temperatures and known thermal conductivity, the thermal conductivity of the material can be inferred on various ambient temperatures. So the material can be recognized via its thermal conductivity.

Effect of Membrane Materials on Membrane Fouling and Membrane Washing (막의 재질에 따른 막오염 특성 및 물리·화학적 세척의 영향)

  • The objectives of this research were to (1) identify the membrane fouling potential due to different fractions of NOM (2) correlate the physicochemical properties of NOM and membranes with the adsorption of humic substances on membrane (4) find out the effect of membrane physical and chemical washing according to membrane material. The static adsorption test and adsorption test showed that hydrophobic organics adsorbed much more quickly than hydrophilic organics. In case of the effect of membrane properties on the adsorption of organic fractions, the adsorption rate ratio(a) of hydrophobic membrane (0.016, 0.077) was greater than that of hydrophilic membrane (0.010, 0.033) regardless of the kind of organic fractions. This suggests that the UF membrane fouling were occurred mainly by internal pore size decreasing due to adsorption of organic into pore surface for hydrophobic membrane, and by sieving of organics and forming a gel layer on the membrane surface for hydrophilic membrane. In conclusion, the decrease in the pore volume, which was caused by the organic adsorption into the internal pore, was greater with the hydrophobic membrane than with the hydrophilic membrane. In case of the effect of membrane properties on permeate flux, the rate of flux decline for the hydrophobic membrane was significantly greater than that for the hydrophilic membrane.

  • 어린이 가구는 어른 가구의 축소가 아닌 새로운 제품 분야이다. 이미 많은 업체에서 어린이 가구를 출시하는데 대체적으로 안전성을 이유로 고가의 제품이다. 지금 사회의 가구 구성의 다양화로 인한 어린이가구가 한 제품의 분야가 되었기 때문이다. 이에 어린이 가구에 대한 안전성이 높아졌으며 실용성과 안전성을 최우선으로 하고 있다. 이는 어린이들이 가구를 놀이용으로 신체적 접촉을 하고 있기 때문이다. 가구의 특징으로 어린이들의 피부에 접촉이 잦고 가구의 재질에 따른 촉감 등에 반응할 수 있기 때문이다. 이는 어린이가 어린이가구에 부딪히는 느낌, 이용성, 재미와도 연결되어 감성을 키울 수 있다고 본다. 어린이들은 표현성이 미흡하기 때문에 어린이가구의 안전성에 보다 더 주의해야한다고 여긴다. 즉 어린이가구의 안전성을 추구는 실제적 구매욕구를 가지고 있는 소비자인 부모들의 인식에 변화가 필요하가다. 어린이 가구의 시장은 중국이나 동남아에서 제조되어 한국으로 들어오는 경우가 있다. 그러므로 안전성에 대한 인식을 위해 재질과 실용성을 가미한 어린이 가구가 필요하다.

A Survey on Consumer Perception on Removability of PET Bottle Labels (PET병 라벨의 분리용이성에 대한 소비자의 인식 및 실태 조사)

  • As the government strengthens its policy of separating and discharging packaging materials, consumers are increasingly dissatisfied. In order to increase consumer participation in separate discharge policy of packaging materials, it is necessary to increase the willingness to participate by reducing potential consumer problems such as removal of packaging labels. This study conducted a survey of 300 consumers aged 14 and over who recycle and discharge directly from their homes. Ninety-nine percent of consumers said PET bottles are released separately. However, only 65% of consumers removed labels (attachment labels, shrink labels) and other materials (caps, vinyl coatings, tapes, handles, bases, etc.) during separate discharge process. Nearly 52% of consumers cited 'difficulty of separation' as the main reason for not removing labels and other materials. One-way ANOVA analysis showed that 'strong adhesion', 'removal initiation problem' and 'material strength' had high mean regardless of age, which are major factors impedes label removal. Using shrink labels with perforated lines rather than adhesive labels would be more beneficial to encouraging participation in separate discharge. However, if the shrink labels do not have perforated lines or are difficult to remove, adhesive labels are often easier to remove than shrink labels because of the strong cohesiveness of shrink labels. As a result, how easy it is for consumers to remove the label is more important than technological differences. In order to increase consumer participation in packaging material and label separations, improvements in structural design are needed along with the selection of materials that are easy to separate. This study is meaningful in examining consumer perceptions, deriving problems and suggesting directions for policy improvement.

Development of character recognition system for the billet image by use vision system (비전시스템을 이용한 빌렛영상 문자인식기 개발)

  • 본 논문은 철강공장의 연주공정에서 만들어진 빌렛 소재의 관리를 위해 사용되는 소재 관리문자를 실시간으로 인식하기 위한 빌렛 소재 관리문자 인식용 비전시스템 개발 결과에 대해 기술한다. 빌렛 재질의 단면에 마킹된 소재 관리문자는 소재가 다음 공정으로 이동하기 전에 공정상에서 실시간으로 인식된다. 문자인식 시스템은 영상획득을 위한 카메라 시스템, 영상을 장거리로 고속 전송하기위한 영상전송 시스템, 기존 시스템과의 인터페이스를 위한 입. 출력 장치로 구성된다. 개발된 문자인식 시스템을 실제 철강공장에 설치하여 운용테스트를 실시했다. 테스트 기간 중에 시스템의 내구성과 신뢰성을 검증하고 최종적으로 문자 인식률을 검증했다. 개발된 시스템에 대해 현장 테스트 결과 실험실 수준과 비슷한 수준의 인식률을 가졌다.

Development of recognition system of a slab number in the steel production line (철강공정 슬라브번호 자동인식 시스템 개발)

  • In the steel production line, the molten metal of a furnace is transformed into slab material and then move to the hot strip line, This paper describe about the real time recognition system of material management number, which is marked at the surface of a slab in the steel production line. This recognition processing should be performed before the slab is moved to the hot strip line. This system include following recognition steps. First, we remove noise from the captured slab image by use pre-filter. Second, we extract rough area, which is include slab number and then, we extract individual number area. Finally, we recognize material management number by use KLT(Karhunen-Loeve transform) algorithm. We applied our system to the real slave image, which was captured in the process line. In the results, we recognized slave number to the 94% accuracy.
