  • This study was carried out to investigate the style of livestock house, concentration of malodorous substances of livestock feces and livestock houses in Daejeon area. Among the livestock houses investigated, as most of cow pens(94.5%) have sawdust or chaff on the bottom, there was no leakage of feces out of pen. Most pig pens adopted slury style, but some of them currently use buffering material on the bottom. It is thought that there will be no possible contamination leakage. When it comes to hen house, all the broiler house use litters on the bottom and all the layer house use scrapper. It is also thought that there will be no possible contamination leakage. 3 out of 12 deer pens used buffering material on the bottom, 10 places were maintained in a traditional method, and 7 places left possibility of contamination leakage considering whether the roof was installed or not. The contents of ammonia, amine and volatile fatty acid in fresh feces were lower compared to rotten feces, but the concentration of sulfur-containing matter - hydrogen sulfide, methylmercapthan and ethylmercapthan were higher compared to rotten feces. In the case of malodorous ingredient in livestock houses, only small amount of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide were detected in pig pen and hen house, and other ingredients were not detectable. And those who are engaged in animal husbandry reacted negatively to the use of feed additives for decreasing malodor. In conclusion, it is not worrisome that contamination can be leaked out of animal raising facilities. But if we take into consideration that the point of investigation time is wintry season, there should be more considerate attitude. And feed additives for decreasing malodor need establishing criteria in the manufacturing process.

  • Shotcrete is one of the main support materials in tunnelling. Its bonding state on excavated rock surfaces controls the safety of the tunnel: De-bonding of shotcrete from an excavated surface decreases the safety of the tunnel. Meanwhile, the bonding state of shotcrete is affected by blasting during excavation at tunnel face as well as bench cut. Generally, the bonding state of shotcrete can be classified as void, de-bonded, or fully bonded. In this study, the state of the back-surface of shotcrete is investigated using impact-echo (IE) techniques. Numerical simulation of IE technique is performed with ABAQUS. Signals obtained from the IE simulations were analyzed at time, frequency, and time-frequency domains, respectively. Using an integrated active signal processing technique coupled with a Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) analysis, the bonding state of the shotcrete can be evaluated accurately. As the bonding state worsens, the amplitude of the first peak past the maximum amplitude in the time domain waveform and the maximum energy of the autospectral density are increasing. The resonance frequency becomes detectable and calculable and the contour in time-frequency domain has a long tail parallel to the time axis. Signal characteristics with respect to ground condition were obtained in case of fully bonded condition. As the ground condition worsens, the length of a long tail parallel to the time axis is lengthened and the contour is located in low frequency range under 10 kHz.

  • Generally, there can be a interface discrepancy between the legacy hardware and the new software in combining new software component with reused hardware components in the embedded system. This kind of the interface discrepancy may cause various types of faults and also result in declining interface fault tolerance. In this paper we propose a method to improve interface fault tolerance. First of all, the new interface discrepancy fault type which has not been dealt with before is to be defined and next the testing method for generating test paths is proposed by considering the new defined interface discrepancy fault type in this paper. Several tests show that the proposed method detects more fatal faults about 7.9% in comparison with the existing testing method for commercial broadcasting receiver. Since the proposed method can provide software developers with test paths to be available earlier on the software development cycle, in addition, software developers can regard on interface discrepancy fault in advance. Consequently, more efficient test planning can be established to improve the interface fault tolerance.

  • Along with the progress of white LED technology, red phosphors have become increasingly important in industry and academia, and a more specific demand has steadily increased in the market. Red phosphors are used in high efficiency and high rendering LED lightings. However, using red phosphors with $Eu^{2+}$ activators caused color rewarming and reduced emission intensity in white LED chips due to strong reabsorption in the green or yellow wavelength range caused by the 4f-5d transition. $Mn^{4+}$ doped phosphors which have no such drawbacks and which can further improve the color rendering index (CRI) are now of great interest. However, $Mn^{4+}$-doped phosphors have a disadvantage in that the emission wavelength is determined depending on the host due to the $^2E_g{\rightarrow}^4A_2$ transition. In this study, the $SrO-BaO-GeO_2$ solid-solution was selected, and $Sr_{1-x}B_axGe_4O_9:Mn^{4+}{_{0.005}}$ ($0{\leq}x{\leq}1$) phosphors were synthesized and characterized. This led to a versatile color tuning in LED technology.

  • Spatial database systems in client-server environment have network overload due to the large amount of spatial data transmission. Users use the window query that loads partial region of a whole map for quick response time in the environment. A series of window query such as screen movement, enlargement or shrinkage requires data in similar region and this increases network overload by re-transmitting the same data in intersected region with the earlier transmitted region. Removing the transmitted data from query results can solve this problem. In this paper, we design and implement a spatial object manager in order to remove the intersected region occurred by a series of window query. The spatial object manager manages the object identifiers of transmitted objects and removes transmitted objects from spatial objects of the query result by using the removal technique of the intersected region for the transmission and comparison. We utilize GEOMania Millennium server, an open client-server spatial database system, as spatial object manager in this paper. The result of the performance evaluation shows that the spatial object manager removes the transmission of the data redundancy, reduces network overload and improves the overall system performance.

  • In concrete construction work, formwork is an important process that accounts for 10% of the total construction cost. Recent buildings are becoming bigger and higher. In order to maximize the efficiency and safety of this formwork, the system of formworking has been systematized. However, the human accidents and the noise complaints arise from dismantling processes frequently occur. In order to solve these problems, most of them are dependent on foreign technology, but they do not take into consideration the conditions of domestic construction site. In this study, we developed a table type multi-drop system form for a slab and beam which can improve the process, safety and reduction of disassembly noise, and evaluated the physical properties of the main members which are used in the system. The results of this study show that there is sufficient strength to be used as a slab and a laying material for both a yoke beam and a supporting post. The noise level is improved compared to existing method.

  • Nickel mono-silicide(NiSi) shows no increase of resistivity as the line width decreases below 0.15$\mu\textrm{m}$. Furthermore, thin silicide can be made easily and restrain the redistribution of dopants, because NiSi in created through the reaction of one nickel atom and one silicon atom. Therefore, we investigated the deposition condition of Ni films, heat treatment condition and basic properties of NiSi films which are expected to be employed for sub-0.15$\mu\textrm{m}$ class devices. The nickel silicide film was deposited on the Si wafer by using a dc-magnetron sputter, then annealed at the temperature range of $150~1000^{\circ}C$. Surface roughness of each specimen was measured by using a SPM (scanning probe microscope). Microstructure and qualitative composition analysis were executed by a TEM-EDS(transmission electron microscope-energy dispersive x-ray spectroscope). Electrical properties of the materials at each annealing temperature were measured by a four-point probe. As the results of our study, we may conclude that; 1. SPM can be employed as a non-destructive process to monitor NiSi/NiSi$_2$ transformation. 2. For annealing temperature over $800^{\circ}C$, oxygen pressure $Po_2$ should be kept below $1.5{\times}10^{-11}torr$ to avoid oxidation of residual Ni. 3. NiSi to $NiSi_2$ transformation temperature in our study was $700^{\circ}C$ from the four-point probe measurement.

  • In the process of acquiring information through the cyber ISR (Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance) and research into the agent to help decision-making, periodic communication between the C&C (Command and Control) server and the agent may not be possible. In this case, we have studied how to effectively surveillance and reconnaissance. Due to the network configuration, agents planted on infiltrated computers can not communicate seamlessly with C&C servers. In this case, the agent continues to collect data continuously, and in order to analyze the collected data within a short time in When communication is possible with the C&C server, it can utilize limited resources and time to continue its mission without being discovered. This research shows the superiority of incremental learning method over batch method through experiments. At an experiment with the restricted memory of 500 mega bytes, incremental learning method shows 10 times decrease in learning time. But at an experiment with the reuse of incorrectly classified data, the required time for relearn takes twice more.

  • Nonlinear analysis of RC containment structure under thermal load and pressure is presented to trace the behaviour after an assumed LOCA. The temperature distribution varying with time through the wall thickness is determined by transient finite element analysis with the two time level scheme in time domain. The layered shell finite elements are used to represent the containment structures in nuclear power plants. Both geometric and material nonlinearities are taken into account in the finite element formulation. The constitutive relation of concrete is modeled according to Drucker-Prager yield criteria in compression. Tension stiffening model is used to represent the tensile behaviour of concrete including bond effect. The reinforcing bars are modeled by smeared layer at the location of reinforcements accounting elasto-plastic axial behaviors. The steel liner model under Von Mises yield criteria is adopted to represent elastic-perfect plastic behaviour. Geometric nonlinearity is formulated to consider the large displacement effect. Thermal stress components are determined by the initial strain concept during each time step. The temperature differential between any two consecutive time steps is considered as a load incremental. The numerical results from this study reveal that nonlinear temperature gradient based on transient thermal analysis will produces excessive large displacement. Nonlinear behavior of containment structures up to ultimate stage can be traced reallistically. The present study allows more realistic analysis of concrete containment structures in nuclear power plants.

  • To investigate the long-term corrosion resistance of an uncoated weathering steel, an important outdoor constructional steel material, skyward surfaces of the weathering steel and a control steel initially exposed to rural and industrial atmospheres for 9 years were electrochemically tested in neutral artificial rain in terms of electrochemical potentials, impedances, and anodic potentiodynamic polarization curves. Their results were then discussed. A quite passive and stable rust layer to the artificial rain was well formed on the skyward surface of the weathering steel exposed to the industrial and rural atmospheres, and its corrosion rate in the artificial rain was measured to be about a low $3{{\mu}m}/y$. Continuous immersion of all the weathered surfaces in the artificial rain revealed the gradual degradation of the weathered corrosion layers on the steel, resulting in a cathodically controlled corrosion of the substrate steel by the electrochemical measurements. Alloy components of the weathering steel were found to retard the degradation of the weathered corrosion layers on the steel in the artificial rain. For better corrosion evaluation of the weathering steel, more electrochemical measurements of surfaces that have been exposed for more than 9 years to more closely simulated atmospheric waters are needed. These measurements are almost non-destructive and can provide online and in situ information on the corrosion rate, the development of corrosion and the conditions of rust layers on any interested surface and at any exposure time of the steel, so they can be effectively applicable to the corrosion evaluation of steel structures such as bridges, towers, and architectures by forming an electrochemical cell on an interested structural surface and by using a portable electrochemical instrument.
