The Effect of Red-Yeast-Rice Supplement on Serum Lipid Profile and Glucose Control in Subjects with Impaired Fasting Glucose or Impaired Glucose Tolerance (공복 혈당장애 및 내당능장애자에서 홍국의 섭취가 혈중지질 및 혈당 조절에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was aimed at evaluating the effect of red-yeast-rice supplementation on cholesterol-lowering and glucose control in subjects with impaired fasting glucose (IFT) or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). We conducted a doubleblind, placebo-controlled study with 3 groups; placebo, low dose group (red yeast rice 210.0mg/capsule, 2.52g/day) and high dose group (red yeast rice 420.0mg/capsule, 5.04g/day), which were randomly assigned to subjects with impaired fasting glucose or impaired glucose tolerance. We measured fasting serum concentrations of total-, LDL-, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose, insulin, free fatty acid (FFA) and 2 h oral glucose tolerence test (OGTT) before and after the supplementation. Both low dose and high dose groups had significant decrease in LDL cholesterol and atherogenic index (AI) compared with placebo group (p<0.05). Additionally, total and HDL cholesterol improved significantly in high dose group compared with placebo group (p<0.05). Fasting serum glucose decreased in test groups and increased in placebo group after intervention. However, it was not significant differences. In subjects which fasting blood glucose is more than 110mg/dL, fasting glucose had a tendency to decrease in high dose group (p<0.1) and Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) had significant decrease in low dose group (p<0.05), while insulin and HOMA-IR had a tendency to increase in placebo group after intervention. Mean changes of glucose related parameters (fasting glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR) compared with placebo group did not show significant differences. In conclusion, subjects with impaired fasting glucose or impaired glucose tolerance were significantly improved in serum lipid profile by red yeast rice supplementation without serious side effects. These are more effective in the case of a high dose. The effects of red yeast rice supplementation on glucose control were insignificant.

  • 최근 인터넷 환경은 컴퓨터를 이용한 윈도우즈의 환경에서 핸드폰, PDA 등의 모바일 기기를 이용한 다양한 형태로 확산되고 있다. 이로 인해 시각, 청각 장애자나 컴퓨터 초보자도 쉽게 인터넷에 접근할 수 있는 웹 접근성 향상이 많은 분야에서 이루어지고 있다. 이 논문에서는 KADO-WAH 평가도구를 이용하여 교육 관련 기관의 홈페이지를 평가하고 이들 홈페이지의 웹 접근성 지침 준수 여부를 비교 분석한다. 이 논문에서는 교육 관련기관인 대도시 교육청 홈페이지와 부산시 교육청 산하 교육구청의 홈페이지, 그리고 부산시내의 여러 고등학교 홈페이지에 대하여 웹 접근성 지침 준수 여부를 평가하고 비교 분석한다. 그 결과 학부모나 교육 관련 이해 당사자 누구라도 쉽게 교육용 웹사이트에 접근하고 이용할 수 있게 하는데 이 연구의 목적이 있다.

  • Two types of speech signal processores (SSP) for cochlea prosthesis are designed. One is designed using cochlear model and the other is designed using Information (formant, pitch, intensity) extraction method. For these, cochlear model and acoustic information extraction method are proposed. The result shows SSP of cochlear model type contain more acoustic cues than that of information extraction type.

  • This paper proposes a novel human-computer interaction system for the disabled using recognition of face direction. Face direction is recognized by comparing positions of center of gravity between face region and facial features such as eyes and eyebrows. The face region is first selected by using color information, and then the facial features are extracted by applying a separation filter to the face region. The process speed for recognition of face direction is 6.57frame/sec with a success rate of 92.9% without any special hardware for image processing. We implement human-computer interaction system using screen menu, and show a validity of the proposed method from experimental results.

Issues in Developing Statistics for the Handicapped Population (장애자통계의 개선방안)

  • In order for handicapped people to maintain better humane life, it is necessary to get statistics of them in developing appropriate national policy. However, it is very difficult to obtain baseline statistics on regular or occasional basis. It's reason is mainly attributed to attitudes of their family's tendency to conceal any existence of such memeber in the household. As a result, the statis-tics on the handicapped population is very inaccurate and under satisfaction. We must produce such statistics periodically in time and with accuracy. Thus, this study porposes five methods which, we believe, can produce reliable statistics of thehandcapped population : 1) vitalization through enforcement of handicapped information into the registration system, 2) inclusion in population census of items related to handicapped information, 3) improvement of the physically handicapped population survey scheme, 4) utilization of hospital patients' records for development of the statistics, and 5) an estimation through the labor force survey.

  • VOD(Video On Demand) 서비스는 통 방 융합 환경에서의 킬러서비스로, 지상파 방송사에서는 인터넷을 통해 '다시 보기', 'TV VOD' 등의 서비스를 제공하고 있다. 이러한 기존의 방송 VOD 서비스는 콘텐트를 실제 재생하기 전에는 사용자가 원하는 장면을 찾기가 쉽지 않으며, 또한 콘텐트를 실제 재생하더라도 대사 내용이 텍스트로 제공되지 않으므로 청각 장애자의 경우 내용을 파악하기가 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 기존의 방송 VOD 서비스의 단점을 보완하기 위해 디지털 방송 프로그램으로부터 자막 데이터를 추출하고 이를 기반으로 방송 콘텐트의 구간 정보를 생성하기 위한 연구 내용과 이를 적용하여 웹사이트를 통해 제공되고 있는 '주요장면 보기' 서비스의 실 구축 사례를 소개한다.

  • In this paper, we have developed page level input system of the character reading aid for the blind. Input toys)ems arse consisted with 512 pixels line image sensor, optical lento, digital interface for the computer and its control software. Input buffer size of the computer memory that for the single scanning of printed matters Image is 64kB. Image patterns of the reading characters which stored in system memory are converted to tactile character patterns that would be output to the bimorph tactile sensor by software control.

  • 본 연구는 장애인생활시설에서의 정보화에 대한 고찰이다. 정규 시각장애인학교와 장애인생활시설의 시각장애인 교육환경의 비교하기 위하여 대전의 한 장애인생활시설을 선정하고. 장애인생활시설에 몸담고 있는 원생의 유형별, 연령별 인원현황, 연령별 교사현황, 컴퓨터 보유현황, 원생의 주간교육 일정, 시각장애인용 기자재 보유현황 등을 조사하였다. 그 결과 시각장애자에게 있어서 정보화의 기초가 되는 점자 숙지자가 많지 않아 점자교육의 확대가 필요하였고, 정규학교와 달리 컴퓨터교육에 필요한 기자재가 턱없이 부족하여 학습의 환경조성이 시급한 상황이었다. 또한, 교사 중 일부만이 사회복지나 특수교육을 전공하였고, 컴퓨터를 전공한 사람은 단 한 명도 없었다. 그 이유는 아직 장애인 생활시설의 교사채용기준은 법으로 규정되어 있지 않고 생활시설의 교사에 대한 처우가 일반학교의 교사에 대한 처우에 못 미치는 상황이어서 전공자의 임용지원이 많지 않기 때문이었다. 장애인 생활시설에서 정보화 촉진을 위해 정부의 지원을 바탕으로 한 기자재의 확충과 꾸준한 교육연수를 통한 전문지식인의 양성과 그에 걸 맞는 물리적, 사회적 대우를 통하여 원생들에게 질 높은 교육환경을 제공하는 것이 시급한 것으로 조사되었다.

  • Deafs train articulation by observing mouth of a tutor. sensing tactually the notions of the vocal organs, or using speech training aids. Present speech training aids for deafs can measure only single speech ter, or display only frequency spectra in histogrm or pseudo-color. In this study, a speech training aids that can display subject's articulation in the form of a cross section of the vocal organs and other speech parameters together in a single system Is aimed to develop and this system makes a subject to know where to correct. For our objective, first, speech production mechanism is assumed to be AR model in order to estimate articulatory notions of the vocal tract from speech signal. Next, a vocal tract profile mode using LPC analysis is made up. And using this model, articulatory notions for Korean vowels are estimated and displayed in the vocal tract profile graphics.
