  • Background and Objective : Voice disorders are one of the major occupational hazards of school teaching. Prolonged voice use through verbal instruction has been implicated as a cause of vocal impairment among members of this profession. They all depend on their voice for their livelihood and are greatly alarmed by slightest alteration in voice quality. Despite considerable research in the area of voice problems in teachers, the prevalence of voice disorders in this group is unknown. Severe voice problems can affect teacher's ability to teach in the classroom. Materials and Method : This study investigated the prevalence of self-reported voice problems in teachers using a survey of a simple random sample of middle school teachers (n=1000). As part of the survey, teachers were asked to report voice problems for the day of the survey, duration, main symptom, smoking, caffeine, alcohol history etc. Results : The reponse rate was 91%(n=94) with 89.7%(n=812) teachers reporting voice problems on the day of the survey, and 40%(n=330) of these group reporting the history of medical consult. Conclusion : These finding indicate a need for vocal hygiene education in teachers and for the development of educational programs aimed at preventing voice problems in this group of professional voice users.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of attention deficit disorder evaluation scale-school version(ADDES-SV). Between October 1996 and November 1996, ADDES-SV was administered to 263 elementary school students in the second grade and between Jun 1996 and October 1996, 28 attention deficit hyperactivity disorder patients. In the reliability test, the test-retest reliability coefficient was significantly high and that of inattention was 0.88, that of impulsivity was 0.80, that of hyperactivity was 0.83 and total score was 0.83. In the reliability test by internal consistancy, the Cronbach $\alpha$ coefficient was significantly high and that of inattention was 0.98, that of impulsivity was 0.87, that of hyperactivity was 0.87(p<0.05). The half-sprit reliability coefficient by first-second half method showed high correlation and that of inattention was part 1: 0.96, part 2: 0.96 impulsivity was part 1: 0.95, part 2: 0.93, hyperactivity was part 1: 0.92, part 2: 0.94(p<0.05). Inter-rater reliability by pearson correlation coefficient was significantly high and that of inattention was 0.92, that of impulsivity was 0.87, that of hyperactivity was 0.89 and total score was 0.89. The concurrent validity between ADDES-SV and CAP scale was 0.85 in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder patient group and 0.79 in normal control group(p<0.05). In discriminant validity test between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder patient group and normal control group, the patient group showed higher score(p<0.05). The total discriminant capacity of the patient group in ADDES-SV was 94.6%. In this point of view, ADDES-SV scale showed high reliability and validity in applying to Korean subjects and was proved to be the useful screening test tool for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder research.

  • This paper examines inquiries generated in three different online educational programs in Korea at the secondary educational level. Data covers 12,023 inquiries recorded during the first semester of 2019 and the compared groups among three programs are divided by four criteria: its type, period, inquirer, and the way of response. Statistical comparisons using Chi-square test suggest that there are significant differences in frequency rates of inquiries among three programs. First, 'Program A' has more inquiries by student themselves, mostly in the middle of the semester about the contents. Second, inquiries are more frequent for 'Program B' by the coordinating teachers about system-related or evaluation-related questions, either at the beginning or the end of the semester. Third, in the case of 'Program C', parents of health-impaired students are the main inquirers who ask admin-related questions at the beginning of the semester. With respect to the way of response to inquiries, more than 95% of inquiries are answered immediately for all three programs. These quantitative findings are also supported qualitatively, by face-to-face interviews with operators of the three programs. Results of this paper can be used for educational practitioners and experts when they design and operate the customized online educational programs with different purposes and different target-students in the future.

  • Purpose: This study aims to examine perceived safety management in teachers working for young children with disabilities, to grasp the state and problems of safety management and first-aid education at daycare center for young children with disabilities, and to provide basic materials to develop programs for safety management and first-aid education. Results: 1. For the perception items of accident possibility in daycare centers, career with more than 10 years had higher response in 'very high' and 'moderately high' than 'moderately or very low' and statistically significant difference was found(p < .05). 2. For the perception items of accident prevention in daycare centers, no teaches with at least college education thought that 'it was not possible to prevent' and most of them thought that 'it was totally possible to prevent' and statistically significant difference was found(p < .05). 3. For the performance level of safety management and first-aid items, forty and over(4.73) showed higher than age of 20-29(4.32) and 30-39 of age(4.26) and statistically significant difference was found(p < .05). 4. For the knowledge level of safety management and first aid items, the highest religion was found as Christian(16.96), followed by Catholic(15.33), Buddhism(14.91), and no religion(15.81) and statistically significant difference was found(p < .05). 5. For the items of confidence in safety management and first aid, performance level, and knowledge level, teachers who competed safety management and first-aid education( 4,48) had higher performance score than those who did not (4.17) and statistically significant difference was found(p < .05). 6. For the items of confidence in safety management and first aid, performance level, and knowledge level, teachers who competed first-aid education(2.77) had higher confidence than those who did not(2.35) and statistically significant difference was found(p < .05). Conclusion: The results suggest that safety management and first-aid education in teachers working for daycare center for young children with disabilities was closely correlated with knowledge and performance levels. Thus, it is necessary to provide continuous safety management and first-aid education for teachers working for day care center for young children with disabilities through regular in-service training. Also further research should be conducted with all subjects and various regions who contact with young children with disabilities.
