디지털 문헌이 증가하고 디지털 도서관이 개발되면서 인터넷 정보자원을 도서관장서의 일환으로 개발, 보존, 이용시키는 문제가 논의되기 시작되었다. 본 연구는 네트워크로 연결되는 인터넷 자원을 도서관의 가상적 장서로 수용하기 위하여 인터넷을 통해 제공되는 정보자원과. 이의 접근과 관련된 문제들을 정의하였다. 그리고 인쇄자료와 비교하여 인터넷상에 유통되는 자원의 형식 등을 비교 분석하여 자료의 신뢰성을 평가하는 요소를 개발하고, 전통적인 장서개발 요소와 비교하여 인터넷 정보자원을 선택하는데 필요한 평가요소를 설정하였다.

In the development of a university library's collection, the concept of patron-driven acquisition refers to a collection strategy that addresses users' direct information needs. In this study, an analysis of ten years' worth of book requests by user types was conducted to understand the topic preferences for efficient collection devleopment in the university library. In collection development, identifying subject areas of users' requested books is necessary for librarians to identify key areas of collection development and establish balanced collection development policies. To identify the major subject areas for each user group, KDC (Korean Decimal Classification) subject classifications were used, and network analysis techniques were applied to investigate the relationships between book topics in detail. The analysis revealed that "social sciences" emerged as the major topic across all user groups. However, in the analysis of sub-topics, "medicine" and "psychology" were distinctively identified as the major subject areas for graduate students, setting them apart from other user groups. The result of the network analysis further indicated that undergraduate students showed unique topics such as civil service, job placement, and career, which were not observed as major topic clusters in other user groups. On the other hand, graduate students tended to concentrate on a few specialized subjects, forming distinct topic clusters in the analysis.

In this paper, we have studied the technical contribution of internet as a computer mediated communication(CMC) tool for collection management. A new communication process is appearing due to the development of information technology and telecommunications technology which enable users to have an access to information without the help of librarian. Also, internet makes collection management possible in the absence of vendors. This study found out that internet reinforces the traditional functions of collection management and enables librarians to better perform their roles. The future library manager should become actively involved in the development of technology in order to manage resources of internet focusing on the needs of user. Also, we have concluded that collection management should be modernized and transformed with its emphasis on the new evaluation method and assessment of quality when offering resources of internet in the communication process using computers.

공공도서관은 환경과 유기적인 상관관계가 큰 조직으로 기준설정이 필요하고 따라서 효율적인 봉사를 할수있다. 본 연구는 기준이 가지는 특성과 설정과정을 분석하고 질적인 수준을 위한 이용도 조사와 봉사정신에 입각한 시스템기준 설정을 시도한 논문이다. 본 연구의 결론은 설치기준: 일인당 면적기준보다 시스템 단위의 지역기준, 장서기준: 참고서적 우선의 장서구성과 최신성을 위한 정간물 구입, 직원기준: 업무분석을 통해 전문직과 비전문직의 구별과 전문성 향상, 시설기준: 일인당 좌석, 면적기준보다 봉사형태에 따른 다양한 시설, 봉사기준: 이용행태분석을 통해 봉사정신에 입각한 프로그램 설정.

This paper examines the influence of and in the process of collection building in public libraries. These events resulted in depriving library workers of their voluntary spirit. And these events have also become a main cause of ideological prejudices as reflected in collection building.

As a private school and a library in the Enlightenment Period of Korea, Woo-Hyun Seoru(友弦書樓) was established between 1904 - March 1905 by Lee, Dong Jin who had a will and provided a economic support for it and his son Lee, Il Woo had founded and operated it and it seemed to be closed in 1911. By this time, Woo-Hyun Seoru has been underestimated or ignored in the history of libraries in Korea. This study tried to investigate 8 aspects of Woo-Hyun Seoru as a modern library including the subject and purpose of establishment, the date of establishment, the location and buildings, the collection development and the acquisition methods, the user group and the important users, the library activities, the process of closure, and the moving path of the collections after the closure of Woo-Hyun Seoru. To do this, the articles of newspaper, periodicals, and academic journals, the relating documents and Sung Nam Se Go(城南世稿) written by Dong Jin Lee, Il Woo Lee and their descendants and colleagues were analyzed.

Due to the rapid changes of information environment, the libraries are needed to consider not only analog resources but also digital resources for collection development policy to fit the digital age. However, the libraries have difficulties to build digital collection development policy for collecting and archiving the digital resources because different from the analog resources, characteristics of digital information resources are not contained in physical medium and not allowed ownership but remote access by licensing. Especially, national libraries that have the mission to collect, preserve and transmit knowledge and cultural heritage to the next generation face even more serious challenges. This study intends to figure out the core elements of digital collection development policy through comparison of domestic and overseas national library policies tried to overcome the difficulties.

In this study, we aimed to examine the feasibility of establishing a shared preservation center with a focus on the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education. We conducted surveys to assess the current situation and gather perceptions. The research findings revealed the following: Firstly, the surveyed school libraries were already experiencing extreme levels of book saturation, necessitating the management of book saturation and proper book quantity. Secondly, very few libraries had the facilities required for book preservation. Thirdly, the research showed that in 78% of school libraries, book saturation already exceeded 75%, leading to a rapid increase in discarded books each year. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the systematic expansion of a shared preservation center. Moreover, given the difficulty of individual libraries in establishing facilities for preservation, valuable materials such as rare books and specialized resources should be transferred to a shared preservation center. Additionally, policies and regulations related to material preservation are deemed necessary.

In accordance with the recent expansion of collection operation of independent publications through public libraries, this study conducted a status analysis on independent publications collection in public libraries and in-depth interviews with staff in charge of independent publications in order to suggest ways to effectively manage independent publications. As a result, it was deduced that the measures needed for effective management of independent publications are construction of joint cataloging system for building and sharing independent publications catalog in public libraries; platform for collecting various information of independent publications; support for ISBN, ISSN, CIP issuance of independent publications; and improvement of distribution system.

The purposes of this study were to define the current status of information infrastructures and electronic information retrieval systems in university libraries in Korea, to assess the impact of information technology on library collection development in Korea universities, and to determine the relationship between electronic information retrieval service and library collection development. Data was collected by a mail survey. Questionnaires were mail in December, 1997 to all 134 4-year university libraries. Approximately 78 percent of the questionnaires was returned. The data taken from the survey instruments were analyzed with the analysis of variance(ANOVA) test of SAS program.
