Resource Assessment of Theoretical Potential of Ocean Energy in Korea (국내 해양에너지 이론적 잠재량 산정 연구)

  • This paper describes the resource assessment of theoretical potential of ocean energy including tidal current energy, tidal range energy, wave energy and ocean thermal energy in Korea to provide reliable basis for feasible development plan of ocean energy. Because of different characteristics of each ocean energy resources, the resource assessment methods were established considering characteristics of each ocean energy resources. The coastal region of Korea has been divided into 10 regions. The results show that tidal current energy is abundant in Incheon-Gyunggi and Jeollanam-do and tidal range energy is abundant in Incheon-Gyunggi. And wave energy is abundant in Jeollanam-do, Jeju and Gyeongsangbuk-do and there is ocean thermal energy in Gangwon-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Effect of Carbonized Biomass Derived from Pruning on Soil Carbon Pools in Pear Orchard (배 과수원에서 전정가지 유래 탄화물 시용이 토양 탄소 축적에 미치는 영향)

  • BACKGROUND: Carbonized biomass is increasingly used as a tool of soil carbon sequestration. The objective of this study was to evaluate soil carbon storage to application of carbonized biomass derived from pear tree pruning.METHODS AND RESULTS: The carbonized biomass was a mobile pyrolyzer with field scale, which a reactor was operated about 400~500℃ for 5 hours. The treatments were consisted of a control without input of carbonized biomass and two levels of carbonized biomass inputs as 6.06 Mg/ha, C-1 and 12.12 Mg/ha, C-2. It was shown that the soil carbon pools were 49.3 Mg/ha for C-1, 57.8 Mg/ha for C-2 and 40.1 Mg/ha for the control after experimental periods. The contents of accumulated soil carbon pool were significantly (P < 0.001) increased with enhancing the carbonized biomass input amount. The slopes (1.496) of the regression equations are suggested that carbon storage from the soil was increased about 0.1496 Mg/ha with every 100 kg/ha of carbonized biomass input amount.CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that application of carbonized biomass would be increased the soil carbon contents due to a highly stable C-matrix of carbonized biomass. More long-term studies are needed to be proved how long does carbon stay in orchard soils.

GIS.RS-based Estimation of Carbon Dioxide Absorption and Bioenergy Supply Potential of Forest - Focused on Muju County, Jeonbuk - (GIS.RS기반 산림의 이산화탄소 흡수량 및 바이오에너지 공급 잠재량 추정 - 전북 무주군을 중심으로 -)

  • This study was conducted to estimate carbon dioxide $(CO_{2})$ absorption and bioenergy supply potential of forests in Muju county based on GIS RS In results, it was estimated that 7,800,130 $tCO_{2}$ was absorbed and all bioenergy supply potential of 11,868,202,837 Mcal was available. Futhermore, bioenergy supply potential of 314,876,637 Mcal was available each year that was able to be supplied for the hitting during winter period to 11,241 households. This was more than all households of 10,902 in Muju county. This study suggested the methodology for estimating $CO_{2}$ absorption and bioenergy supply potential of forests on the national scale, and it was believed that reliability would be increased by estimation on the national scale using detailed forest information based on the latest techniques such as GIS RS techniques.

Estimation of Potential Wood Supply by according to Geographical and Forest Management Conditions in Korea (지리 및 임업경영 여건을 고려한 유형별 목재공급 잠재량 추정)

  • The objective of this study was to estimate domestic potential wood supply according to geographical and forest management conditions. In order to separate available wood supply area, analysis was conducted by separating natural, theoretical, geographical and technical supply area. Natural supply area was separated by extract stocked land from forest using digital stock map. Theoretical, geographical and technical supply area was separated by considering protection area, slope, streamside and road. Growing stock was calculated by using species and age-class of digital stock map. Potential wood supply was estimated by calculating growing stock of technical supply area. The results of growing stock of each supply area was shown that growing stock was from 244,150 to 596,248 thousand $m^3$. According to the results of this study, it was found that potential wood supply are likely to be over- or underestimated depending on the considered level of geographical and forest management conditions. Provincial potential wood supply was highly ranked in order of Gyeongbuk, jeonnam, Gyeongnam and Gangwon province.

친환경농업 - 농촌의 다양한 바이오매스 자원과 바이오숯을 이용한 토양탄소 격리기술

  • 최근 대체에너지 자원으로 주목받고 있는 농업부문의 바이오매스 잠재발생량이 연간 1,100만톤 이상이며, 이를 잠재 에너지 부존량으로 환산하면 약 460만 TOE에 해당된다. 그러나 농업부산물을 활용한 바이오매스 활용이 농업분야 온실가스 감축 및 에너지 절약에 중요한 역할을 할 수 있음에도 불구하고, 그에 대한 연구가 부족했다. 농업활동 과정에서 발생되는 바이오매스 자원 잠재량을 알아보고 이들 바이오매스를 활용한 토양탄소 격리기술에 대하여 소개한다.

A Study on the CO2 Reduction Potential by Means of Increased Efficiency of the Electricity (제조업 전력 사용 효율성 제고를 통한 온실가스(CO2) 감축 잠재량 추정에 관한 연구)

  • This paper estimate the $CO_2$ reduction potential that can be achieved by improving the technical efficiency of input factors in the manufacturing sector. Technical efficiency in each manufacturing firm was estimated using the DEA technique. Depending on the returns-to-scale assumption selected, average technical efficiency was estimated to be between 0.467 and 0.643. These estimates suggest that, when the efficiency of electricity consumption in the manufacturing sector is improved, the overall $CO_2$ emissions can be reduced by 17.1-25.5%. Recently, the Korean government has adopted a low-carbon-green-growth policy with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% below the BAU level by year 2020. The analysis of the paper suggests that this goal can be achieved through improved efficiency of electricity consumption.

Effect of storage temperature, period, and sawdust addition on the biochemical methane potential of cattle manure (우분의 저장온도, 저장기간, 톱밥의 혼합에 따른 메탄잠재량 변화)

  • In spite of the highest energy potential among all domestic organic solid wastes. the research on biogas production from cattle manure is limited. In particular, effects of organic content degradation and sawdust addition during storage on biomethane potential have never been investigated. In the present work, we investigated the change of organic content during storage of cattle manure under different temperatures (20℃ and 30℃), and its impact on biomethane potential and odor emissions. 90 days of investigation results showed that 10% of organics in terms of VS and COD were degraded at 20℃ during storage, while 30% were degraded at 30℃. This result impacted on biomethane potential, while 10-13% and 24% reduction were observed from beef and dairy cattle manure, respectively. The temperature also affected on CH4 and odor emissions during storage by 3.3-3.8 times and 29 times. The effect of sawdust on lowering down biomethane potential was found to be substantial, reducing 61-75% compared to the control.
