  • In this study we assessed the efficacy of an automatic dispensing/injection system (ADIS) to reduce the radiation exposure of workers during PET procedures. NMW(Nuclear Medicine Workers) were classified into 2 groups, one of which used conventional method and the other used an ADIS. The radiation dose during injection were also measured in both groups, with another set of experiment. In dispensing step, ADIS imposed significantly less radiation dose than conventional method, both to finger and to whole body. In injection step, ADIS also imposed significantly less dose to finger, while the dose of whole body was somewhat larger in ADIS than in conventional method. Using ADIS, the radiation exposure of NMW during dispensing was markedly reduced. Also, the exposure of finger during injection was markedly reduced, although exposure of whole body was mildly increased.

  • The probability of causation(PC) is the measure to ascertain the likelihood that a particular cancer may be attributed to a particular prior exposure to radiation. Since the PC is involved in several uncertainties, it is desirable to use the confidence limit for the PC, not a point estimate for determining whether to award compensation. We developed the program for estimating the PC to Korean radiation workers with cancer, the so-called RHRI-PEPC, which is based on the most reasonable model for radiation cancer risk and recent Korean baseline data. RHRI-PEPC gives us the upper confidence limit for the PC after adjusting several uncertainties and therefore we can assess more reasonably the causality of radiation exposure for cancer occurred in Korean radiation workers.

  • Since the radiological risk is different depending on the working environment, protection measures and policies must be developed through analysis of the field area environment. Evaluating the characteristics of the field area that uses radiation should be conducted through comparative analysis with other industries, not just the numerical value of the field area. In this study, evaluation factors were derived from exposure records by the department to compare radiation occupational exposure records by sector. And then, we developed a polygonal model for comparative analysis and applied them to eight work fields through ten evaluation factors. Based on the occupational exposure record in 2020, a polygonal model was applied to compare and evaluate the characteristics of the radiation work area. Through this, the usefulness of the polygonal model was confirmed, and protection policy measures for the industry were proposed.

  • In a primary system at nuclear power plants (NPPs), various radionuclides including fission products and corrosion products are generated due to the complex water conditions. Particularly, $^3H,\;^{14}C,\;^{58}Co,\;^{60}Co,\;^{137}Cs,\;and^{131}I$ are important radionuclides in respect of dose assessment for radiation workers and management of radioactive effluents. In this paper, the dominant contributors of radiation exposure for radiation workers and the member of public adjacent to NPPs were reviewed and the process of dose assessment attributable to those contributors were introduced. Furthermore, the analysis for some examples of radiation exposure to radiation workers and the public during the NPP operation was carried out. This analysis included the notable precedents of internal radiation exposure and contamination of demineralized water occurred in Korean NPPs. Particularly, the potential issue about the dose assessment of tritium and carbon-14 was also reviewed in this paper.

  • Purpose: This prospective study was conducted to reveal the haematological index change by low level radiation exposure in radiological environment our hospital workers. Materials and Method: We gathered the cumulative dose by Thermoluminenscent Dosimeters (TLD) over 9-yr period and examined hematological index counts change (RBC, Hb, Platelet, WBC, Monocyte, Lymphocyte, Neutrophilic, Basophilic, Eosinophilic) both occupational workers and controls. Of a total 370 occupational workers and 335 controls were compared. Results: This analysis has led to the following general observations 1) The average cumulative dose in male and female were $9.65{\pm}15.2\;mSv$, $4.82{\pm}5.55\;mSv$ respectively. 2) In both male and female, there were very low relationship between occupation period and cumulative dose (r< ${\pm}0.25$). 3) Occupation period was more increased, in male, WBC counts decreased and increased workers, RBC counts decreased workers were more than controls group (p<0.05). In female, WBC counts decreased and increased workers and W-eosino counts decreased workers were more than controls group (p<0.01). 4) Cumulative dose was more increased, in male, W-Lympho counts decreased workers and Platelet counts deceased workers were more than controls group (p<0.05). In female, W-lympho counts decreased workers and RBC counts decreased workers were more than controls group (p<0.05). Conclusions: We can find some kinds of blood index abnormal distribution in occupational radiation workers by comparing with controls. Occupational workers cannot avoid radiation exposure, in spite of the control it. Actually low level radiation adverse effect occurred not dose but probability. So workers must always try to reduce exposure by ourselves, furthermore as long as possible the government should provide rapidly that national system on radiation control for worker's health.

  • Current medical institutions with the development of medical technology to the increased demand for health use of radiation equipment is increasing rapidly. Direct radiation from the patient receives the aim of reducing exposure as much as possible is important and the spatial dose of scattered radiation with in the space to engage in reducing healthcare physician, radiation workers and carers need to reduce indirect exposure. X-ray radiation workers and caregivers in the X-ray room to wearing of protective clothing is advised. However Radiation worker sand caregivers of patients with secondary is done, by wearing protective clothing to wear protective clothing because of the weight and discomfort have been neglected. In this study, based on the presence or absence of clothing scattered radiation from space to measure distances, depending on the horizontal and height by measuring the angle of the importance of wearing protective clothing were investigated.

  • The number of ships using liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel is increasing to respond to the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) air pollutant emission regulations. At the same time, the need to expand LNG bunkering infrastructure for stable fuel supply and demand for ships is emerging. LNG bunkering is carried out in three ways: truck to ship (TTS), pipe to ship (PTS), and ship to ship (STS). In foreign countries, all three methods are being carried out, but in Korea, LNG bunkering is carried out only with the TTS method owing to the lack of infrastructure. LNG bunkering is a high-risk operation. For safe bunkering operations, the competence of the workers is extremely important, and a professional training course is required to strengthen the competence. This study was conducted to design training contents for LNG bunkering workers for fostering LNG bunkering experts and performing safe and systematic bunkering work. To this end, the current status of LNG-fueled ships and bunkering was identified, and related domestic and abroad educational contents were analyzed. In addition, opinions on the importance of educational contents were collected through expert questionnaires. Consequently, we designed training contents suitable for various training targets and divided them into basic and advanced training courses, with a duration of 4 days, and proposed. Based on the designed training contents, if additional research is conducted by sufficiently reflecting Korea's bunkering environment, it will be of great help to improve the competence of LNG bunkering workers and to foster human resources.
