  • In this study, an evaluation index was developed and applied to derive indicators related to the environment for bicycle use and to evaluate the environment for bicycle use in the city of Suwon. Analysis showed that the relative importance between the assessment factors was highest in bicycle safety and that the relative importance among the assessment indicators was highest in terms of priority of items directly affecting bike riding, and items with indirect influence were low in importance. As a result of applying the evaluation model to bike paths in Suwon, it was confirmed that they can be described in a relatively realistic manner. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of local government directives for improving the environment of cycle paths.

  • A Development of the Evaluation Criteria on the User's Bicycle Environment for Work and School Trip Purpose: This study suggests future improvements and some current questions about the development of the evaluation criteria on the user's bicycle environment for Work and School Trip Purpose. The direction of development on Evaluation Criteria is all about on the side of necessity of bicycle users, the reflection of new policy, the construction of total evaluation criteria, and the examination of connecting study with current study. This study establishes a Development of the Evaluation Criteria on the User's Bicycle Environment for Work and School Trip Purpose. After that, this study examines previous evaluation criterias and researchers will select the primary provision of evaluation through FGI, and they derive the final evaluation criteria throughout the verification of suitability on Evaluation Criteria. The summery of this study is like this. First, suggestions of improvements of zones in bicycles users' evaluations, Second Suggestions of the current conditions by GIS and the result of model analysis, Third Clarify of major provisions in terms of zones by using Spider Map.

  • This paper's objectives are to investigate the criteria for ergonomic evaluation of indoor bike coordinated with virtual images, and to compare HMD-based VR bike with 2D-based one. 12 experts performed delphi method with an aim to determine ergonomic evaluation criteria that were classified into 4 categories(Usability, Emotion, User Values, Reality). 2D-based bike and HMD-based one were compared according to part of final criteria through fuzzy-logic question performed by 20 subjects. Though there were no confidential difference in usability, HMD-based VR bicycle resulted in greater scores than 2D-based one in elements related with emotion, user value and reality statistically. It is expected that this research results will be used as references to evaluate ergonomic design of other indoor exercise equipments combined with VR or AR.

  • Because people are gradually interested in bicycles, central and local governments provide many efforts for expanding bikeway plans and utilization. However, most domestic bicycle plans have been established for the urban and leisure. This research is focused on developing the evaluation method to give the priority order for the investment of rural community bicycle roads. For the methodology development, the planning hierarchy and indicator framework are proposed in this paper. In order to decide the weighting value for indicators, a questionnaire survey to transportation experts was conducted. Moreover, the coefficient for social and spatial equity was applied to consider the balance of regional development. The evaluation was applied to a pilot corridor comprised of a 160km section of national highway in korea. This methodology provides a new tool to decide priority order for the investment of bicycle facilities.

  • Recently, with the increase of the interest to global environmental problems, bicycle has been recognized as the most environmentally friendly transportation mode. To promote cycling, it is necessary to ensure road space that bicycle can keep running safely and smoothly. This paper aims to evaluate the district with rearranged road space and network, given priority to bicycle, comparing the traditional district which are given priority to car from viewpoints of environment, safety and accessibility. As evaluation indicators, the carbon dioxide emission on the environment. the number of collision between car and bicycle on safety and an accumulated frequency measure on accessibility were used. As the result, it was clarified that bicycle road measures to create bicycle road by reallocation of road space and form bicycle exclusive network were effective.

  • Continuous management of bicycle facilities is needed, as uses of bicycles are increased. In the previous studies, evaluation of bicycle facilities were performed mainly from the surveys to bicycle users and experts. This study aims to evaluate the facilities for bicycle uses by setting up the quantitative assessing measures for the purpose of contributing to balanced management of the facilities for bicycle uses. Based on the existing measures provided in the previous studies about conditions for bicycles users, the variables of the facilities that are available and quantifiable were derived, and the scales of the facilities were set up. For evaluation, the station influence areas in Songpa District were selected as test areas. The methods for analysis were, first, to carry out the 'bicycle roads-facilities' analysis, which was modified from quadrant method. Consequently, individual facilities and station areas were relatively examined. Second, by principal component analysis, bicycle facilities were analyzed in a general and integrated way. From that, the variables sharing common characteristics were grouped, similar types of stations influence areas were found out, and then the groups were ranked.

  • This study is to analyze the physical environment and conduct spatial data for bicycle road system in changwon. Index for evaluation index was developed based on literatures. Then the level of importance and weight have been modified through experts review. Finally, index with eight categories such as greenness(40% over), bicycle road connectivity(1.8, 9.8%), road type bike(bicycle lane, 24.4%), pave type(asphalt 72.5%), illegal parking(none, 93.9%), bike road surface visibility(exist, 46.8%), vehicle speed limits(30km, under), vehicle traffic(500/hr under, 44.3%) have been applied to empirical investigation. Collected data has been hierarchically classification by ArcGIS Program. The Highest grades(score 31-35, level 1) occupied 35% of target destination. High level of greenness and load type has contributed to high score. In addition, average level of greenness of those destination was 35% and higher, which provide high degree of security and freshness for bicycle riding. Meanwhile, lowest level(level 5, which earned 15 point or less) occupied 24.5%. illegal parking, low level of greenness, and no surface sign caused low score.

  • The bicycle is an environment-friendly transport mode leading to a more sustainable transportation system. To innovatively increase the use of bicycle as a significant transport mode, bicycling-friendly roadway environment should be provided. From this perspective, the scientific and effective assessment of roadway environment in term of the bicyclist perception for safety and comfortability is of keen interest. This study develops a methodology for evaluation cycling environment using probe bicycles. A global positioning system(GPS) based speedometer was used to collect bicycle speed data. Cycling comfortability index(CCI) was derived for the purpose of evaluating cycling environment. The proposed CCI can be effectively used as an assessment tool in the field of bicycle transportation.

  • Bicycle is an environment-friendly transport mode contributing to a more sustainable transportation systems. To innovatively increase the use of bicycle as a significant transport mode, bicycle-friendly roadway environment should be provided. This study proposes a method to evaluate cycling environment based on the analysis of data collected from an specially equipped probe bicycle. The inertial measurement unit(IMU) consisting of a gyro sensor, accelerometer, and a global positioning systems(GPS) receiver was installed on the probe bicycle. Cycling stability index(CSI) and bicycle speed data were used as inputs of the proposed evaluation framework adopting the Fault Tree Analysis, which is a well-known technique for the risk analysis. The outcomes of this study will serve as an intelligent assesment tool for cycling environment.

  • The purpose of this study is providing an evaluation criteria for appropriateness of bicycle riding path considering trip purpose based on cyclist's response of importance and satisfaction. The survey presents a quantified criteria of evaluating appropriateness of the bicycle path by investigating difference of impotance and satisfaction between two purposes among 5 selected influence factors about bicycle lane and bicycle parking facility, and in case of commuting purpose, information of destination is additionally considered. All the influence factors are analyzed by Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) which yields importance. For the factors which have a huge difference between two purposes, evaluation criteria using a GIS Data of respondent's path and satisfaction of each factors is developed, and other factors are made it by reviewing literature. The importance analyzed by AHP and evaluation criteria can provide a path based LOS for cyclist, and this information can be improved through user's response from app or search engine in the future. and by considering individual's evaluation, it can provide individually specified information.
