  • Recently, Korean baby boomers, which make up approximately 15% of the total population, have begun to retire. Their economic well being is one of Korea's most important social issues. The purpose of this study was to compare the economic structure of baby boomers' households with that of the prior generation, as well as to analyze the determinants of economic satisfaction from the perspective of "work" and "child educational burden." In addition, group comparisons were made regarding economic resource allocation between baby boomers and the prior generation and within baby boomers of different work and child educational burden statuses. Data from the 2nd wave of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA), including baby boomers and the generation prior to the baby boomers, were used. The major findings were as follows. First, the baby boomers had a different economic structure, level of economic satisfaction, and economic resource allocation when compared to the prior generation. The economic structure of baby boomers in terms of income, expenditure, savings and assets, debts, and trust in policies significantly differed from their counterparts. Second, the determinants of economic satisfaction and the propensity of resource allocation were different depending on whether they worked or had a child educational burden, respectively. Based on these empirical results, policy implications for the future economic well being of baby boomers were provided.

  • This study proposes an integrated operational model of branches with customer center at stock brokerage firms and suggests ways to improve existing systems. This suggested integrated model of branches and customer centers can increase customer satisfaction and customer values for the specific services at each channel. This integrated model also enables customers to make transactions at a desired specific time, make it possible to inquire whatever the customer wished to ask, and select desired contact channels. In addition, the firms can bring in improved effectiveness of internal resources by integrating all the resources the firm has. Personal resources and system resources are distributed by the characteristics of channels that can be selected by the customers. Then agents also can provide more speedy and accurate responses to the engaged customer interactions matching to his/her job in charge. Also, the model makes it possible to collect the latest customer and transaction information at the moment of each interactions, by which the firm can provide customized services specifically tailed to each customers' preferences. However, systematic interactions between branches and customer center, and completed system should be equipped with in order to provide the highest quality services.

  • The conventional design of the information system architecture based on the personal experience of information systems has been acted as a limit in progress utilizing appropriate resource allocation and performance improvements. Architecture design depending on personal experience makes differences in variance of a designer's experience, intellectual level in related tasks and surroundings, and architecture quality according to individual's propensity. After all these problems cause a waste of expensive hardware resources. At working place, post-monitoring tools are diversely developed and are running to find the bottleneck and the process problems in the information operation. However, there are no simulation tools or models that are used for expecting and counteracting the problems at early period of designing architecture. To solve these problems we will first develop a simulation model for designing information system architecture in a pilot form, and will verify validity. If an error rate is found in the permissible range, then it can be said that the simulation reflects the characteristic of information system architecture. After the model is developed in a level that can be used in various ways, more accurate performance computation will be able to do, getting out of the old way relying on calculations, and prevent the existence of idle resources and expense waste that comes from the wrong design of architecture.

  • This paper focuses on the geographical pattern of financial activities in the Korean urban system during 1975-1990, based on the assumption that financial activities can reveal control points in Korea's urban economy. In terms of spatial evolution of financial insitutions, different locational characteristics are revealed among different types of financial institutions, implying the role of urban hierarchy. Financial resources are highly concentrated in the capital region, Seoul and Kyonggi Province. Both centralization trends into the large metropolitan cities and relative declines of medium and small cities within the Korean urban system, have been experienced over the study period. Financial activities sustain relatively stable hierarchical structure in the urban hierarchy. Regarding the financial flows, dominant flow zones centered on major metropolitan cities are identified, clearly showing a prominant role of Seoul in financial flows in the entire urban system.
