  • Over the past decades, a variety of spatial saliency methods have been introduced. Recently, motion saliency has gained much interests, where motion data estimated from an image sequence are utilized. In general, motion saliency requires reliable motion data as well as image segmentation for producing satisfactory saliency map which poses difficulty in most natural images. To overcome this, we propose a motion-based saliency generation that enhances the spatial saliency based on the combination of spatial and motion saliencies as well as motion complexity without the consideration of complex motion classification and image segmentation. Further, an affinity model is integrated for the purpose of connecting close-by pixels with different colors and obtaining a similar saliency. In experiment, we performed the proposed method on eleven test sets. From the objective performance evaluation, we validated that the proposed method produces better result than spatial saliency based on objective evaluation as well as ROC test.

  • Flipped learning can be used as an innovative teaching method in science education. This study analyzes video clip produced by pre-service elementary school teachers for flipped learning and explore strategies to organize effective visualization. The pre-service elementary school teachers focused on providing information on macroscopic natural phenomenon using concrete case selection strategy for earth science class. They used marker and spatial transformation elements effectively, but their efforts to link the elements to the experience of students were not sufficient. In addition, it was very rare to put the contents into simplified drawing or provide extreme cases to enhance the imagery of students. In addition, it is necessary to provide specific case of multi-modal and link the material to the experience of students closely through familiar cases or analogical model to establish an effective visual teaching material. It may also be needed to present simplified drawing for enhancing imagery and provide extreme cases to make students have an opportunity to infer a new situation.

  • In this paper, we propose an emotion recognition using static and dynamic facial images to effectively design human interface. The proposed method is constructed by HMM(Hidden Markov Model), PCA(Principal Component) and wavelet transform. Facial database consists of six basic human emotions including happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, fear and dislike which have been known as common emotions regardless of nation and culture. Emotion recognition in the static images is performed by using the discrete wavelet. Here, the feature vectors are extracted by using PCA. Emotion recognition in the dynamic images is performed by using the wavelet transform and PCA. And then, those are modeled by the HMM. Finally, we obtained better performance result from merging the recognition results for the static images and dynamic images.

  • The drifters of the Global Drifter Program were deployed in the northern East Sea for two years from March 2015 to compare and validate currents estimated from sea-level measurements with the SARAL/AltiKa altimetry satellite mission, specially designed to accurately measure sea level in the near-coastal area. The collocated (less than 20 km apart) directly measured current from GPS locations every 30 minutes and the currents normal to the satellite tracks show a similar correlation in the area shallower than 200 m depth as the open ocean and it makes it possible to investigate the time variations of the current along the coast in the northern East sea, where direct observations of current are scarce. The Liman Current along the Siberian coast is found to be southward all year round, but the North Korean Cold Current flows southward only in the summer. The North Korean Cold Current south of the Musudan cape mostly flows to the south, but the current direction depends on the presence of an eddy around the coast of Musudan cape.

  • Cerebral amyloid angiopathy-related inflammation (CAA-RI) is an encephalopathy caused by inflammation of β-amyloid peptide deposition in cerebrovascular vessels. It is a rare disease that mainly occurs in the elderly and is characterized by rapidly progressive dementia, headache, seizures, and focal neurologic deficits. CAA-RI can demonstrate characteristic brain MRI findings and can be reversed by steroids or other immunosuppressive therapies. Here, we report a case of CAA-RI, which was initially misdiagnosed as a subacute infarction but was diagnosed while reviewing follow-up brain MRI images, and spontaneous remission was achieved.

  • The digital app-book is an advanced form of the electronic book (e-book), which attracts a lot of interests by the help of video, sound, sensors and a variety of interactions. As mobile devices have evolved, the demand of digital app-books is also rising substantially. However, the distribution of digital app-book contents is hard to meet the demand because the digital app-book requires a lot of programming cost for the interaction. To resolve this problem, Was verified and implementation as a library function of the interaction between device and user. The proposed library consists of three parts (user action recognition, device action, and content action) and provides various user-device interaction functions by combining methods of each part, which can support source code reusability, easy understanding and availability, and wide expandibility. The library was used in the development of natural science education app-book contents. As a result, it could reduce a lot of code lines and facilitate more rapid app-book development.

  • We introduces a system that enables fast and effective visualization of natural disaster data such as typhoons, tsunamis, floods, and flooding to help make informed decisions in disaster situations. Data containing disaster information consists of a few hundred megabytes to many tens and hundreds of gigabytes, which can not be handled by a PC. This system was implemented in the form of a client-server based service to generate and output results from high-performance servers. The server in a built-in, high-performance cluster handles client requests and sends the result of visualization to the client. Clients can receive the results in any form of images, videos, or 3D graphic model by specifying a desired time frame, effectively viewing the results with a user-friendly GUI.

  • DMZ (De-Militalized Zone) in South Korea is world heritage area by passage control of human-being for more than 50 years since 1953. Wild flora and fauna in these area have been protected from any development and/or habitat destruction. However, consideration on ecosystem and nature in the area is becoming higher, and demand for development is raising also. We have reviewed any publications, which are surveyed about ecosystem and interview local residents about wildlife inherit there. Totally 51 species have been reported inhabited DMZ belonging to 17 Families, 6 Orders, so far. National monuments in DMZ are following; Asiatic black bear (Ursus thibetanus), Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra), Musk deer (Moschus moschiferus), KOREAN goral (Nemorhaedus caudatus), flying squirrel (Pteromys volans) and spotted seal (Phoca vitalima). These results would be an essential data to establish management strategy and manuals for conserving native ecosystem, native flora and fauna in DMZ, and also using for registering world heritage area under UNESCO.

  • In the year 1992/93 leucocytozoonosis could be first diagnbosed in 87 chickens of 4 chicken farms in Honam districts. The diagnosis was confirmed by detection of the blood merozoites or gametocytes and histological finding of the schizonts from various organs with some clinical signs. Cases of leucocytozoonosis only occurred from the end of June to the middle of September. Artificial infection could be observed by means of inoculation of infected blood merozoites. The schizonts were found in the liver and cardiac muscle of the different chickens recovered from the natural infection, respectively, in September and next February. Thus the relapse or long-term infection in cold seasons might be possible. The unique gametocyte antigen polypeptide was 50.1 kD.
