  • The purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting the adaptation, Self-esteem and self-control of college students to smart addiction. We surveyed 380 university students in Gwangju area. Data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis. Smart phone addiction according to general characteristics showed the lowest in fourth grade and high in health-related majors. Smart phone usage time was the lowest in less than 3 hours due to the actual usage of smart phone. School life adaptation, self-esteem, and self-control according to general characteristics were higher in satisfaction with college life and majors. The most influential factors on the addiction of smart phone were perceived smart phone addiction, and the self-esteem and self-control were more likely to be addicted to smart phone. Therefore, it is necessary to develop education and programs to enhance self-esteem and self-control of college students and to find ways to prevent smart phone addiction.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of computer/internet game play on depression and life satisfaction via perceived self-control among older adults in Korea. Data were collected from a survey of 237 community-dwelling older adults (age${\geq}$65) who reported internet users. A path analysis was used to examine the causal relationship among the main constructs. Results showed that the computer/internet game play had positive effects on perceived self-control. Perceived self-control was found to decrease depression and improve life satisfaction among older adults. Additional analysis indicated that the computer/internet game play in older adults did not directly affect mental health (depression and life satisfaction) but indirectly affected it via perceived self-control. Furthermore, perceived self-control had greater effects on depression than on life satisfaction. These findings have crucial implications in that perceived sense of self-control needs to be seriously considered when we develop mental health games for older adults.

  • The purpose of this investigation was to examine the mediating effects of delinquent peers between attachment to parents, low self-control and adolescent deviant behaviors. After specifying a research model based on Gottfredson and Hirschi's general theory of crime and Hirschi's control theory of delinquency, the study analysed the model using structural equation modeling. The data for this investigation came from a sample of 2,448 Korean adolescents. The results showed the both measurement model and structural model had a good fit to the data and all paths of structural model were statistically significant. The main findings were the attachment to parents and low self-control had direct and indirect effects on adolescent deviant behaviors through delinquent peers. The implications for practical intervention and further research in the field of delinquency were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of father's verbal control modes, children's self efficacy, social competence and interactive peer play. The subjects were pairs of 195 three, four and five year-old-children and their fathers. Data were analyzed with mean, standard deviation, and bivariate correlation. Results indicated that father's verbal control modes were significantly correlated with children's self efficacy, social competence and interactive peer play. Father's person-oriented control verbal mode was positively related to children's self-recognition, self-emotion, social competence, leadership and interactive peer play while imperative control verbal mode was negatively related to children's instability, interrupted play behavior, and disturbed play behavior.

  • This longitudinal study investigated the mediating effects of self-control and self-esteem on the associations between parenting behaviors and middle school students' externalizing problems in single parent families. Participants were 174(2003-2004 panel 1 data of Korea Youth Panel Survey). The results of structural equation modeling indicated that self-control and self esteem did not mediate the associations between time 1 parenting behaviors and time 2 middle school students' externalizing problems, after accounting for the effects of time 1 middle school students' externalizing problems.

Data were collected 164 female highschool students. Data were handled statistics using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Stepwise Regression Analysis. The mean score of sense of self-control was 20.47±3.86. There was statistically significant difference in sense of self-control on factor such as satisfaction of school life. The mean score of social support was 105.88±19.63. There were statistically significant difference in social support on variables such as satisfaction of school life, parental rearing attitudes. The mean score of daily stress was 58.96±17.33. In this case, the self-control of adolescence was found to be significant indirect effect and direct effect, and total effect. Second, self-esteem and self-confidence of adolescence, it was found that self-control of adolescence has a significant meditating effect in the process of a significant positive effect in teacher attachment. • This study investigated the correlations of the AIDS knowledge, self-esteem, sense of control, optimistic bias toward AIDS, and condom use in the Chinese male college students. A cross-sectional survey was used, and 307 male students were recruited from anonymous universities in cities of two provinces in China. The data were analyzed according to descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson's correlations. The Chinese male college students had an optimistic bias toward AIDS. The score of AIDS knowledge was 73%, and the self-esteem and sense of control scores were all rated higher than the median. The difference among groups according to grade and age were statistically significant in this study. The self-esteem, sense of control, and optimistic bias toward AIDS showed significant positive correlations, but AIDS knowledge, optimistic bias, and condom use have no correlations. The studies that examine psychological variables with condom use among various groups should be followed in the Chinese context.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine between the social isolation and smart phone addiction in elderly. Under this relationship, we investigated the double-mediation effects of self-regulation and social support. Research data were collected from 404 elderly in DaeJeon, South Korea. The final sample were 404 who fully responded. As a result of structural equation modeling, the social isolation of elderly significantly effected directly in smart phone addiction. Furthermore, self-regulation and social support effected the smart phone addiction indirectly through the double-mediation path. Based on the results of this study, the implications and future studies of the smart phone addiction of elderly are suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate pathways from family factors such as parental conflict, parenting behavior and adolescents' self-control to adolescent delinquency, and to explore the mediating effects of delinquent peers and school maladaptation. The 2004 Korea Youth Panel Survey data were used for analysis and the total number of subjects were 2,968 middle school students with two parents including step parents family. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with AMOS 5 and SPSS 10. The major findings are summarized as follows. First, the effects of parental conflict on adolescent delinquency were mediated by parenting behavior, adolescents' self-control, delinquent peers and school maladaptation. Contrary to parental conflict, parenting behavior had a direct effect on adolescent delinquency as well as indirect effects. On the basis of these results, this article provided some suggestions for preventing or reducing adolescent delinquency.
