First-principles Study on the Magnetic Properties of Gd doped Bithmuth-Telluride (Gd 도핑된 비스무스 텔루라이드의 자기적 성질에 대한 제일원리 계산 연구)

  • Determination of the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of the magnetically doped bismuth-telluride alloys are drawing lots of interest in the fields of the thermoelectric application as well as the research on magnetic interaction and topological insulator. In this study, we performed the first-principles electronic structure calculations within the density functional theory for the Gd doped bismuth-tellurides in order to study its magnetic properties and magnetic phase stability. All-electron FLAPW (full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave) method is employed and the exchange correlation potentials of electrons are treated within the generalized gradient approximation. In order to describe the localized f-electrons of Gd properly, the Hubbard +U term and the spin-orbit coupling of the valence electrons are included in the second variational way. The results show that while the Gd bulk prefers a ferromagnetic phase, the total energy differences between the ferromagnetic and the antiferromagnetic phases of the Gd doped bismuth-telluride alloys are about ~1meV/Gd, indicating that the stable magnetic phase may be changed sensitively depending on the structural change such as defects or strains.

이온빔 증착법으로 제작한 수직자기이방성[Co/Pt]${\times}$5 다층박막의 열적안정성

  • 수직자기이방성을 갖는 [Co/Pt]$\times$5 다층박막을 상온에서 이온빔 증착(ion beam deposition)법으로 제작하여 자기적 및 열적 특성을 연구하였다. 수직자기이방성 특성은 비정상 홀(Hall)-전압법으로 측정하였으며, 표면광 Kerr 효과로 확인하였다. $[Co(10{\AA}/Pt(12.5{\AA})]{\times}5$) 다층박막에서 수직자성 보자력은 400 Oe이었고 수평자성은 매우 큰 곤란축(hard-axis) 특성을 유지하였다. 진공 열처리 시 1 kOe의 균일한 자기장이 박막면 수평(시료 A)과 수직(시료 B)이 되도록 각각 인가함에 따라 열적안정성을 관찰하였다. 시료 A의 수직자성의 보자력이이 $300^{\circ}C$에서 1 KOe로 유지되어 시료 B의 열적안정성 보다 훨씬 우수하였다.

Dispersion Characteristics of Oleic Acid Stabilized Water-based Magnetic Fluids by Peptiaztion Method (해교법으로 제조한 오레인산 수상자성유체의 분산특성)

  • Water-based magnetic fluids containing synthesized ultrafine magnetite were successfully prepared with $C_{18}$ fatty acid such as oleic acid, linoleic acid and stearic acid. Oleic acid was needed the amount of $3.0{\times}10^{-2}$ mol per 20 g magnetite to stabilize the magnetite $d\;=\;113\;\AA$ particles. From pH 8.0 to pH 11.0, stable aqueous-based fluids could be obtained. The aggregated powder after drying the water-based magnetic fluid was also successfully re-dispersed in dilute $NH_{4}OH$ solution and in kerosene. The pH levels of the magnetic fluid using oleic acid system could be predicted by the pH values obtained by calculation of therrrodynamic data.

  • 자성유체는 암 치료와 질병진단 등과 같은 다양한 분야에서 유용한 응용의 가능성을 갖는다 [1]. 생리적 염도인 중성 pH에서 생체조직과 잘 교합하고, 높은 안정성을 가지는 자성유체는 자성 나노입자 표면에 화학적으로 흡착된 계면활성제 종류에 따라 달라진다 [2]. 본 실험에서는 화학적 공침법을 이용하여 Fe$^{2+}$와 Fe$^{3+}$ 의 몰비가 1:2인 수용액에 pH 12 이상의 과잉 알칼리(NH$_4$OH 12ml)를 첨가시켜 마그네타이트 콜로이드 용액을 제조하였다. 광감제로는 hematoporphyin을 사용하였으며 투입량은 1$\times$$10^{-3}$mol/l 였다. 또한 1차 및 2차 계면활성제로는 decanoic acid와 starch, citric acid, oleic acid 등이 각각 사용되었다. 각 계면활성제가 코팅된 자성미립자의 특성을 조사하기 위해 동결 건조 후 VSM, FT-IR 및 TEM 분석을 수행하여 자기적 특성과 코팅표면의 결합구조 및 미시적 구조를 분석하였다. 그리고, 각각의 계면활성제가 코팅된 자성유체의 독성을 조사하기 위해 rat를 이용한 생체실험이 병행되었다.

  • The water-based magnetic fluids were prepared with the synthesized ultrafine magnetite, dodecanoic acid as surfactant. Characteristics of synthesized ultrafine magnetite were investigated with X-ray Diffraction Pattern, Transmission Electron Microscope, Vibrating Sample Magnetometer and BET analysis. Dispersion characteristics of water-based magnetic fluids were investigated in relation to amounts of surfactant, pH and solid content.

Effect of functional group on activity and stability of lipase immobilized on silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles with different functional group (실리카 코팅된 자성 나노입자로의 효소 고정화에 사용된 작용기가 리파아제의 활성과 안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study investigated the immobilization of lipases on silica nanoparticles and silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles as supports with a functional group to enhance the stability of lipase. The influence of functional groups, such as the epoxy group and the amine group, on the activity and stability of immobilized lipase was also studied. The epoxy group and the amino group were introduced onto the surface of nanoparticles by glycidyl methacrylate and aminopropyl triethoxysilane, respectively. Immobilized Candida rugosa lipase on silica nanoparticles and silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles with a functional group showed slightly lower initial enzyme activities than free enzyme; however, the immobilized Candida rugosa lipase retained over 92 % of the initial activity, even after 3 times reuse. Lipase was also immobilized on the silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles by cross-linked enzyme aggregate (CLEA) using glutaraldehyde and covalent binding, respectively, were also studied. Immobilized Candida rugosa lipase on silica nanoparticles and silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles by CLEA and covalent binding showed higher enzyme activities than free enzyme, while immobilized Candida rugosa lipase retained over 73 % of the initial activity after 5 times reuse.

Magnetism of Pd(111) Thin Films: A First-principles Calculation (Pd(111) 박막의 자성: 제일원리계산)

  • Pd has the highest magnetic susceptibility among single element metals and often shows ferromagnetism under some special environments. In this paper, we report magnetism of 5- and 9-monolayers (ML) calculated by using full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method. Exchange-correlation interaction is taken into account in local density approximation (LDA) and generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and calculational results in LDA and GGA are compared with each other. It is found that calculations by LDA are more reliable compared to those by GGA because LDA prediction of paramagnetism of bulk Pd is consistent with experiments, whereas GGA predicts wrongly ferromagnetim of bulk Pd. Calculational results in LDA on a 5-ML Pd(111) thin film shows a ferromagnetic ground state unlike a paramagnetic ground state of bulk Pd. The center Pd layer of the 5-ML Pd(111) thin film has the largest magnetic moment ($0.273{\mu}_B$) among the layers and |m| = 1 orbital states play a dominant role in stabilizing the ferromagnetism of the 5-ML Pd(111) thin film. A 9-ML Pd(111) thin film in a ferromagnetic state has almost the same total energy as in a paramagnetic state. Since the magnetization of the 9-ML Pd(111) thin film is stable, the ferromagnetic state may be meta-stable.

  • 본 논문에서는 차량용 저전압 DC-DC 컨버터 (Low voltage DC-DC Converter, LDC)에 최적화된 자성소자를 개발하기 위한 Test Platform 구축 과정을 제시한다. 현재 연구, 개발된 LDC를 토대로 자성소자 개발에 범용성을 가지는 정격사양을 결정하고 그에 따른 시스템을 구성한다. 또한 시스템에 적용된 위상천이 풀-브리지 (Phase-Shift Full-Bridge, PSFB) 컨버터에서 자성소자가 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 분석 결과를 기반으로 구성한 시스템에서 안정적인 성능 검증을 위한 자성소자의 적정 설계범위를 제시하고, 범용성을 위해 입출력 변화에 따른 자성소자 설계 요소들의 변화 추이를 제시한다.

Density Functional Study on Correlation between Magnetism and Crystal Structure of Fe-Al Transition Metal Compounds (Fe-Al 전이금속 화합물의 자성과 결정구조의 상관관계에 대한 밀도범함수연구)

  • It is known that the Fe-Al transition metal compounds have a lot of disagreement about structural stability and magnetism. In this study, the correlation between magnetism and atomic structure of ordered $B_2$, $L1_2$, and $D0_3$ structured Fe-Al compounds has been investigated using the all-electron full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method based on the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). We found that considered all the structures were calculated to be stabilized in a ferromagnetic state. The calculated spin magnetic moments of the Fe atoms for B2 and $L1_2$ structures were 0.771 and 2.373 ${\mu}_B$, respectively, and that of Fe(I) and Fe(II) in $D0_3$ structure calculated to be 2.409 ${\mu}_B$, 1.911 ${\mu}_B$, respectively. In order to investigate structural stability between $L1_2$ and $D0_3$ structures, we performed the formation enthalpy calculations. As a result, the $D0_3$ structure is found to be more favorable than $L1_2 one by energy difference 16 meV/atom, which is well consistent with the experimental observation. We understood about structural stability and magnetism for Fe-Al compounds in terms of analysis of their atomic and electronic structures.
