  • We have studied electronic structures and magnetic properties of one dimensional Ge chain nanoclusters using OpenMX method based on densty functional method. The calculation results show the strong antiferromagnetic interaction between Cr and Ge atoms. The magnetic interaction between Ge and Ge atoms are almost antiferromagnetic behaviors. The magnetic exchange interaction are occurred over the sevaral Ge atom layers. The magnitude of this interaction depends number of Ge atom.

  • The magnetic interaction effect on the magnetic activation volume and area of electrodeposited CoPt magnetic films was investigated. The dipolar interaction was predominant interaction mechanism for all samples. And the interaction strength was increased with decreasing current density and increased with increasing sample thickness. Although the activation volumes of the samples fabricated at low current density were larger than those of the high current density samples, the sample thickness seemed to have little influence on the variation of activation volume. But it was found that the activation area was apparently affected by the magnetic interaction strength as well as the current density.

  • The influence of thickness on magnetic interaction and magnetic properties in electrodeposited CoPt magnetic films was investigated from the analysis of the magnetic remanence curves and the magnetic hysteresis loops. As the thickness of the CoPt film is increased, the perpendicular coercivity and the saturation magnetization are increased but the squareness is considerably decreased. The analysis results of the magnetic remanence curves and the magnetic hysteresis loops exhibited that the dipolar interaction is the main interaction mechanism for all samples, but the strength of the dipolar interaction gradually increased with increasing sample thickness.

  • The superexchange interaction is introduced to explain antiferromagnetic ordering in transition metal compounds such as MnO and $MnF_2$. The anisotropic superexchange (Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya: DM) interaction can be derived by incorporating the spin-orbit interaction into the superexchange interaction. The anisotropic superexchange DM can account for the weak ferromagnetism observed in transition metal compounds such as ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$, $MnCO_3$, $CrF_3$.

  • The magnetic interaction between elliptic Janus magnetic particles are investigated using a direct simulation method. Each particle is a one-to-one mixture of paramagnetic and nonmagnetic materials. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible Newtonian and nonmagnetic. A uniform magnetic field is applied externally in a horizontal direction. A finite-element-based fictitious domain method is employed to solve the magnetic particulate flow in the creeping flow regime. In the magnetic problem, the magnetic field in the entire domain, including the particles and the fluid, is obtained by solving the governing equation for the magnetic potential. Then, the magnetic forces acting on the particles are calculated via a Maxwell stress tensor formulation. In a single particle problem, it is found that the orientation angle at equilibrium is affected by the aspect ratio of the particle. As for the two-particle interaction, the dynamics and the final conformation of the particles are significantly influenced by the aspect ratio, the orientation, and the spatial positions of the particles. For the given positions of the particles, the fluid flow is also influenced by the orientation of each particle. The self-assembly structure of the particles is not a fixed one, but it varies with the above-mentioned factors.

  • Determination of the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of the magnetically doped bismuth-telluride alloys are drawing lots of interest in the fields of the thermoelectric application as well as the research on magnetic interaction and topological insulator. In this study, we performed the first-principles electronic structure calculations within the density functional theory for the Gd doped bismuth-tellurides in order to study its magnetic properties and magnetic phase stability. All-electron FLAPW (full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave) method is employed and the exchange correlation potentials of electrons are treated within the generalized gradient approximation. In order to describe the localized f-electrons of Gd properly, the Hubbard +U term and the spin-orbit coupling of the valence electrons are included in the second variational way. The results show that while the Gd bulk prefers a ferromagnetic phase, the total energy differences between the ferromagnetic and the antiferromagnetic phases of the Gd doped bismuth-telluride alloys are about ~1meV/Gd, indicating that the stable magnetic phase may be changed sensitively depending on the structural change such as defects or strains.

  • Formation of a narrow magnetic domain wall is demonstrated by micromagnetics simulations. It is found that the domain wall width can be shrunk in a local exchange coupled system. The local exchange coupled system means that only a part of a ferromagnetic layer has an exchange coupling with another ferromagnetic layer. The system can be considered as two parts in the lateral dimensions: one is an exchange coupled region and another is a free region. Since the two regions have quite different local switching fields, the domain wall will be formed at the interface between the two regions at moderate field ranges.

  • Double exchange interaction leads to the ferromagnetism by the direct coupling between conduction electrons and magnetic ions. The most intriguing feature of double exchange is the explicit connection of the conductivity with the magnetism, which has drawn much interest in relation to the colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) recently observed in manganese oxide compounds. In this review, we explain the basic physics of double exchange and examine the classical discussions.
