In this paper we propose a formal data model of an object-based thesaurus system supporting multi-dimensional facets. According to facets reflecting on respective user perspectives, it supports systematic construction, browsing, navigating and referencing of thesauri. Unlike other faceted thesaurus systems, it systematically manages its complexity by appropriately ing sophisticated conceptual structure through visualized browsing and navigation as well as construction. The browsing and navigation is performed by dynamically generating multi-dimensional virtual thesaurus hierarchies called "faceted thesaurus hierarchies." The hierarchies are automatically constructed by combining facets, each representing a dimension of view. Such automatic construction may make it possible the flexible extension of thesauri for they can be easily upgraded by pure insertion or deletion of facets. With a well defined set of self-referential queries, the thesauri can also be effectively referenced from multiple view points since they are structured by appropriately interpreting the semantics of instances based on facets. In this paper, we first formalize the underlying model and then implement its prototype to demonstrate its feasibility.
The purpose of this study is to examine the algorithm of ship collision avoidance system and to improve its performance. The study on the algorithm of ship collision avoidance system have been carried out by many researchers. We can divide the study according to the adopted theory into two category such as 'collision risk calculation method' and 'risk area method'. It is not so difficult to find heir merit and demerit in the respective method. This study suggested newly modified model, which can overcome a limit in the two method. The suggested model is based on collision risk calculation method and suggests how to solve the threshold value problem, that is, one of the unsolved issues in collision risk calculation method. To solve that problem this study proposed new system under which the users can select appropriate threshold value according to environments such as traffic situations and weathers conditions. Simulation results of new model is schematized using 'risk area method'to examine the relationships between the two method. In addition, in case of 'collision risk method', when TCPA and DCPA are used to determine collision risk, a problem happens, that is, two ships become too close in their stem area, therefore, partial function of 'risk area method'is adopted to solve the problem in suggested model.

Auto-navigation algorithm have been studied to avoid collision and grounding of a ship due to human error. There have been many research on collision avoidance algorithms but they have been validated little on the real coastal traffic situation. In this study, a Collision Avoidance algorithm is developed by using Fuzzy algorithm and the concept of Changeable Action Space Searching (CAS). In the first step, on a basis of collision risk calculated from fuzzy algorithm in the current time(t=to), alternative Action Space for collision avoidance is planned. In the second step, next alternative Action Space for collision avoidance in the future($t=to+{\Delta}t$) is corrected and re-planned with re-evaluated collision risk. In the third step, the safest and most effective course among Action Space is selected by using optimization method in real time. In this paper, the main features of the developed collision avoidance algorithm (CAS) are introduced. CAS is implemented in the ship-handling simulator of MOERI. The performance of CAS is tested on the situation of open sea with 3 traffic ships, whose position is assumed to be informed from AIS. Own-ship is fully autonomously navigated by autopilot including the collision avoidance algorithm, CAS. Experimental results show that own-ship can successfully avoid the collision against traffic ships and the calculated courses from CAS are reasonable.

This paper deals with productivity improvement of stevedoring system by pooling opertaions of transport vehicle at automated container terminal. Usually, in traditional container terminals, grouping operations of transport vehicle are applied for container crane because vehicle routing path is simple and vehicle assignment is easy. But this static assignment(SA) operation that arrsign vehicles to container crane ar apron reduces flexibility of vehicles. Therefore, This paper presented 4 dynamic assignment(DA) method to improve efficiency of vehicles. These 4 dynamic assignment method consider present situations of container crane such as sequence(Se), queue time(Qt), productivity(Pr), numeric of vehicle assignment(Nv), numeric of buffer(Nb) at vehicles assignment. At the results, dynamic assignment operation to consider Qt, Nv, Nb is most efficient and by next time, dynamic assignment operation to consider Se is superior more than static assignment operation. but, dynamic assignment operation to consider Pr or Qt of container crane only is inefficient than static assignment operation.
Information supporting system which is based on real-time prediction of currents to be applicable to the sea trial test of ship is developed. In the system, the spatial distribution of currents at specific time and the trends of variability of currents occurring at specific sites are also given as valuable information for sea trial test of ship. In addition, the system has a capability to connect with a GPS which provides information including speed loss of the ship caused by currents on the way of voyage. With information from the sea trial test, the system is also capable of delivering optimum time and pathways by considering calculated speed loss of ship at specific time and its pathway. Having information described as above, the real-time current prediction system supports and provides functions of not only running the test in an efficient way but also providing valuable information which is encouraged to be used during the test by installing at the ship.

An estimation algorithm of collision risk among multiple ships has been developed in order to reduce human error and prevent collision accidents. The algorithm is designed to calculate the collision risk among ships based on Fuzzy theory by using AIS data as traffic information. In this paper, to validate the algorithm, the AIS data of actual collision accident, which occurred between a product carrier and a cargo carrier in Busan harbor in 2009 are collected. The replay simulation is carried out on the actual AIS data and the collision risk is calculated in real time. In this paper, the features of the estimation algorithm of collision risk and the results of replay simulation based on AIS data of actual collision accident are discussed.
This paper provided a simulation model for transport vehicles that carry container from the ship to yard block and vice versa at automated container terminal with a perpendicular yard layout. Usually, the efficiency of container terminal is evaluated by the productivity of container cranes at apron, and the stevedoring system for transport vehicles and yard cranes should be supported enough to improve productivity of container cranes. Especially, transport vehicle is very important factor in the productivity of container cranes and the performance of transport vehicles are changed according to the number and traveling type of vehicles. For these reason, a method that can estimate productivity of transport vehicle is required Finally, we developed the simulation model to analyze the productivity of transport vehicle and presented the productivity of container cranes for a varying operation of transport vehicles.

Shipbome Automatic Identification System (AIS) will be an important manne equipment used for identification, surveillance and communication in the 21st century, which is currently being researched in developed countries. A technical scheme of AlS is proposed in this paper. The main component of the AlS is a broadcast transponder, and the core technology is a VHF radio data link with high capacity, named STDMA (Self-organized Time Division Multiple Access). The ships installed the AlS, which will automatically and periodically broadcast their positions and identities in the marine VHF channels, can be displayed on a screen of an ECDIS on board or in VTS centers. The AlS is able to support not only broadcast service but also point-to-point communication service. This paper presents the configuration, operation principle and functionality of the AlS as well as the scenario of STDMA. In addition, the standardization work of AlS in IMO is introduced in this pauer, too.

A monitoring system of collision risk among multiple ships is newly-designed in order to reduce human error and make vessel traffic control more effective. By using AIS data as ships' navigational information, an estimation algorithm of collision risk among multiple ships is newly-designed. To consider ships' course of now and future, collision risks of multiple ships can be calculated by using fuzzy algorithm. To test the performance of new algorithm, replay simulations are carried out on actual AIS data collected from VTS center of Ulsan harbor in Korea. The AIS data include 25 ships' information for two hours. In this paper, the features of newly-designed estimation algorithm of collision risk and the results of replay simulation are discussed.
