Implementation of the small aircraft simulator with autopilot system using SIMULINK (SIMULINK를 이용한 소형 항공기용 자동비행시스템 시뮬레이터 구현)

  • In modern aircraft, an autopilot system is getting more important. There are not many autopilot systems applied to small aircraft. Also the autopilot system in large or medium aircraft is difficult to apply to small aircraft directly. It is necessary to make a new autopilot system for small aircraft. In this paper, we implement the small aircraft simulator with autopilot system using SIMULINK. The various modes of autopilot - such as altitude select/hold, attitude hold, heading hold, etc. - are implemented to the flight simulator and tested. We also implement the VOR mode for aircraft guidance.

  • The control law design and analysis environment of the FBW helicopter system have been developed using model base design method. The model based design is generally used in a aircraft, unmanned aerial system and automobile as well as rotorcraft development. The model based design provides many advantages such as development risk and schedule reduction using simulation and autocode generation. This paper describes a development of process for verification and validation of auto generated code for FBW helicopter flight control law. And this process is applied for Fly-By-Wire Helicopter Development Project. The results of functional test for auto generated code meet several specific requirements.

  • This study suggests the development of the ALE (Automatic Link Establishment) system for the long-range communication with a helicopter at the lands or marines by HF (High Frequency) radios. In the condition of LOS or more than 35 NM, the communication success rate is significantly lowered when the frequency is manually selected because of the reduced transmission power and various strong RF environment noise signals. In this paper, we make an effort to overcome the difficulties of choosing the optimal frequency when the operating frequency selection is manually operated in long-distance communication or LOS uncertain environment. The ALE system is designed based on the frequency analysis propagation software and is verified that the communication success rate is increased by applying the proposed system. The ALE system was applied to the helicopter system and the ground/flight test was conducted. As a result, the superiority and efficiency of the proposed system were verified.

  • DURUMI-II is developed into test bed airplane for the multi-purpose flight test. It satisfied the civil aeronautics law. DURUMI-II is equipped with Airborne System for acquiring of flight test data and can fly by oneself. In this paper, the redundancy of DURUMI-II control system is operated sequentially is explained. The divided control surface and the requiring program method for flight test are described. Also, it is described that the exact control input is applied using the new method. Finally, the results of flight test for new method are analyzed.

  • In this paper, a guidance law applicable to aircraft automatic landing is proposed and its performance is compared with the conventional ILS-type landing approach. The concept of miss distance, which is commonly used in the missile guidance laws, and Lyapunov stability are effectively combined to obtain the landing guidance law. The new landing guidance law is integrated into the existing controller and is applied to the landing approach and flare phases of landing procedure. Numerical simulation results show that the new landing guidance law is a viable alternative to the conventional strategies that directly control the longitudinal deviation or altitude.

Robust Autopilot Design for Nonsquare Flight Systems (비정방 비행 시스템에 대한 강인한 자동조종장치 설계)

  • A robust controller is proposed to design a flight autopilot for lateral motion control. The control system has two control loops in order to meet the performance and to maintain the stability-robustness for a nonsquare flight system with uncertain aerodynamic variations and disturbance. One is designed via linear quadratic Gaussian with loop transfer recovery(LQG/LTR) design methodology for the inner loop. The other is designed via proportional controller design method for the outer loop. To show the effectiveness of this control system, it is compared with the LQG/LTR control system for a square flight system and is analyzed for the performance/stability-robustness to model uncertainties and disturbance via wind gusts. It is found that the proposed control system has good heading command-following performance under allowable sideslip angle in spite of model uncertainties and disturbance.

Design of Flight Control System for KARI Unmanned Airship (50m급 중고도 무인 비행선의 자동비행시스템 설계)

  • The flight control system designed for an unmanned airship, which is under development by KARI, is in reduced. First, the dynamic characteristics of the airship are addressed, which are fairly different from those of the nominal aircraft. In order to implement autonomous flight for the unmanned airship, flight control logic is designed including autopilot and guidance law. The autopilot is designed under consideration of the velocity region of the unmanned airship. The guidance laws are implemented in main operational modes such as point navigation, station keeping and spiral up/down for emergency return. Their simulation results are also presented in order to validate performances of the flight control system.
