The Changing Industrial Location Factors in Korea: A Review on Structural Approach (우리 나라산업입지 변화요인 분석: 구조적 접근)

  • Recently, the changes of industrial location can be explained as the concentration of small and medium manufacturing firms or high technology industries by industrial restructuring in Seoul metropolitan area, and the dispersion of large companies'branch plant into the peripheral region in Korea. Particularly deindustrialization is progressing in the inner city and manufacturing firms disperse into the outer city in Seoul metropolitan area. This study reviews on the structural perspectives for the changing industrial location factors. The development of capitalism organizes economic spacial structures and Its characteristics can be reasons which can raise changes in industrial location. Korean economy rapidly grew in the movement process of international capital. And capital accumulation by continuous economic growth is raising the spatial division of labor or the spatial difference and inequality on land price, wages. the base of labor reproduction. Therefore, these factors are the most reasons to raise the changes of industrial location in Korea. Hereafter the study on these factors, that is, in relation to sociocultural structure and land use structure have to be progress more concretely.

Analyzing Site Characteristics and Suitability for Wind Farm Facilities in Forest Lands (산지 내 풍력발전단지 입지 특성 및 적합성 분석)

  • The purposes of this study are to provide a guideline for the suitability of wind farm facilities in forest lands and to suggest improvement plans of policies and systems to minimize the damage of forest lands. First, we implemented a literature review and field surveys to examine and select factors for the suitability of wind farm facilities in forest lands. Spatial database for selected location factors of wind farm facilities in forest lands was constructed to develop the suitability model for locating wind farm facilities focusing on Gangwon-do. Data used in this study include wind power resource, legal mountainous preserved area, forest roads, developed areas, forest class, and other spatial data. In order to find specific-sized potential areas for a certain number of wind farm turbines, we used block statistics and focal statistics methods. As a result, the areas for potential wind farm locations were 1,261ha from a block statistics method and 1,411ha from a focal statistics method. Based on the outputs of this research, it is required to make an urgent solution for the prevention of forest disaster and to prepare reduction measures for the destruction of ridge landscape.

Analysis of Characteristics about the Location environment of Industrial Complex and Migration Company (산업단지 입지환경과 입주기업의 특성 분석)

  • The aim of this study is to determine factors that affect the competitiveness and the move-in environment of migration companies according to the recent change of location conditions of industrial complexes. The results of analysis show that productive factor and economic factor are related to the main factors that determine the location environment. The resident companies have a strong link to the economic characteristics factors, which seems to be related to the expectation and satisfaction for public support facilities, hospitals, educational institutions, and administrative agencies to be placed in the complex, encouraging companies to be located in the complex. In other words, if the existing economic factors and public support facilities were complemented, it can be inferred that the industrial complex promotion policies will be more effectively planned. Also, transportation and infrastructure facilities are analyzed as successful factors for resident companies. In addition, the economic and productive environments turn out to affect public support facilities and environmental factors of infrastructure as major factors. The results of this study are expected to be a useful guideline in determining the resident policy or external factors for the future industrial complex.

The Locational Conditions and Declining Function of Iksan Free Trade Zone (익산자유무역지대의 기능약화와 입지여건의 문제점)

  • Iksan Export Free Zone which was established for the export promotion, the employment augmentation, the technological improvement and the regional development promotion through the attraction of foreign direct investment is declining function with diminution of foreign direct investment, exportation and employment since the middle of the 1980s. The decline factor of the function was inherent in disregard of the necessary locational factors for Export Free zone's function promotion and without respect to conditions in a choice of location. And the present labor intensive industrial structure of region has some difficulties with a modification of Export Free Zone's industrial structure to a technology intensive industry. According to the lack of coherent policy, a limited plottage and a lack of the extensible space decrease the effect of agglomeration and economic of scale. And the lack of governmental policy to create a dynamic advantage comparative with an amelioration of the locational conditions of region diminish the regional attractive force to foreign direct investment.

  • This study aims to investigate the success factors of each market through the case study of Seoul Gwangjang and Jangheung Toyo(saturday) market which have recently developed as tourist attractions among urban and rural traditional markets in Korea. In terms of location, market week, establishment and management of traditional market, Gwangjang is a private and daily market located in the city center of Seoul, and Jangheung Toyo is a public and periodic market located in rural Jeolla Nam-do Province. Nevertheless those differences, two markets have successfully developed as tourist attractions by the complexity of generally common five factors. Those are the factors such as surrounding location of famous tourist attractions, competitive staple goods(items), price competitiveness for goods, roles of local government and(or) public institution, and marketplace promotion through the mass media. These factors will have a significant implication for the development policy from traditional market to tourist market or tourist attraction.

A Study on Locational Competitiveness Factor of Inland Logistics Complex in Gangwon (강원영동남부권 내륙물류기지 입지경쟁 요인에 관한 연구)

  • This res arch was conducted to identify a suitable location for an inland logistics complex in Gangwon Province, South Korea and it aims use competitive factors to derive implications from the logistics competitiveness of Gangwon Province. According to Origin-Destination analysis, the most suitable and desirable site for creating the complex was found to be in the Wonju city area. A total of 28 variable were derived through prior study in order to identify the competition factors for the inland logistics complex, As a result of exploratory factor analysis, a total of 16 subfactors were reclassified into four main factors. Analytic hierarchy process(AHP) analysis showed that 'accessibility factors' (0.374) ranked highest in terms of importance, followed by 'reliability factors' (0.358), 'operability factors' (0.166), and 'government policy factors' (0.102). In each category, delivery of goods from the inland logistics complex base to the demand site was found to be the most important factor (0.160).

  • The purpose of this paper is to research the locational characteristics of commercial land use. So this study deals with the realation between land use pattern and the factors which influence commercial land use. To perform this purpose we choose Apgujung-Dong as a case study area which is specially characterized as fashion street. Commercial facilities are spreading into the inner residential areas in Apgujung-Dong. To raise the efficency accuracy of research, informations of lands and buildings are analysed with EXCEL, ARC/INFO, SPSS The results are : (1) The characteristics of lots and buildings in Apgujung-Dong are different in kinds of commercial facilities. (2) The floor where commercial facilities are to locate varies with functions. (3) Commercial land use pattern is influenced by lot size, building size and story, accessibility, adjacent land use, etc. (4) QS is a useful tool in relation with urban land use analysis.

Characteristics of Immigration Path and Residential Location of Korean Immigrants in Los Angeles (미국 LA지역 한인 이주민의 정착경로 및 주거입지 특성)

  • This paper aims at elucidating the characteristics of immigration path and residential location, and analyzing the factors influencing housing ownership structure and preference of residential location factors of Korean immigrants in Los Angeles. The main results of this study are as follows. Firstly, immigration paths of Korean Immigrants are divided by spatial assimilation type and network of mainstream society oriented type. Secondly, according to the results of binomial logistic regression analysis, Korean town as a current residential location is selected by low-income class, aged migrants group, housing non-owner group and longer migration period group. Thirdly, migrants tend to retain detached housings in residential area of mainstream society while migration period go beyond 10 years and incomes exceed $60,000. Finally, according to ANOVA tests on the preferences of residential location factors. high-income and home owers groups more prefer location factors such as economics, natural environment, housing interior facilities, network of mainstream society.

  • The locational characteristics of ceramic industry in Miryang city, Kyongnam province, were clarified by means of examining the process of its formation, spatial variation, locations and their changes. The government policy on industry and the business fluctuation are important in the quantitative changes of the industry. The spatial variation of industry toward the outer part of area are the results of equilibrium between the decrease of firms in inner city and the increase of firms in outer part. The births and deaths of firms played important role in the processes of spatial variations. The industry location has lasted by the accumulation of location decision of 'potential entrepreneurs' who learned knowledges on the industry and had personal contacts with the business-related persons for long time. The main factors on the locational decision of firms are personal factor, raw materials, land, water and market. The locational problems have mainly related with plant expansion, land, marketing, labour and capital. They caused investment changes and caused relocations of firms. Such disadvantages as raw material exhaustion, shortage of land and congestion within the agglomeration area, development of road transportation and local government policy on industry location, induced recent decentralization of industry to outer part.

  • 본 연구에서는 국내 선행연구와 외식사업 창업 성공사례 들을 통해 외식업 창업성공 요인들을 도출하고, 각 요인들이 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 대하여 원주지역의 일반음식점(한식업)을 중심으로 소상공인시장진흥공단의 상권정보시스템에서 분류한 주요상권중 4곳을 선정하여 실증적 연구를 수행할 계획이다. 외식업창업 성공요인은 창업자의 특성요인과 점포의 입지 및 특성이 경영성과에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 지 확인하고, 상권정보시스템의 입지정보가 통계적으로 유의한 지 확인한다. 또한, 세부 성공요인이 경영성과에 미치는 영향은 고객특성 등 상황에 따라 차이가 있는 지도 확인해 본다. 본 연구는 외식업 창업을 준비하는 예비창업자들에게 성공을 위한 지침을 제공하고 창업 전에 반드시 준비해야할 요소를 점검하여 실패를 줄이는데 기여하고, 소상공인시장진흥공단이 제공하는 상권정보시스템을 적극 활용하기를 기대한다.
