The objective of experimental study is to apply simultaneous measurement by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) to high_speed flow characteristics within ginseng cleaner model. Three different kinds of flow rate(15.20 27ℓ/min) are selected as experimental condition. Optimized cross correlation identification to obtain velocity vectors is implemented by direct calculation of correlation coefficients. The instantaneous velocity distribution time0mean velocity distribution and velocity profile are represented quantitatively for the deeper understanding of the flow characteristics in a ginseng cleaner model.
The flow characteristics in a vaneless diffuser with a backswept radial impeller have been experimentally investigated according to the variation of discharge flow rate. Particle image velocimetry(PIV) system was applied to measure velocity fields with several operating conditions and on some diffuser horizontal planes. Pressure transducers were installed on hub wall of the diffuser in order to analyze the pressure fluctuations and their corresponding velocity fields. The results show that the location of the main flow center moves from the hub to the shroud side as the flow rate decreases, and the reverse flow is locally generated on the hub side.
Simultaneous quantitative measurements are made of the velocity fields for two-dimensional natural convection in a rectangular enclosure using PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry). The experiments are performed at a Prandtl number of 6.62, an aspect ratio of 1.0, Rayleigh numbers from $1.294{\times}10^6\;to\;3.8841{\times}10^6$, and angles of inclination of $0^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}\;and\;60^{\circ}$ inside a $30mm{\times}30mm{\times}8mm$ cavity made of an acrylic glass 10mm, with two isothermal copper walls kept at a prescribed temperature. The experimental results agreed very well with the numerical results. It was found that the flow consisted of a large double convection cell at angle of inclination of $60^{\circ}$.

The climate change occurring all over the world increases the risk, specially in urban area, Accordingly, rainwater pumping station expansion is required than before. In order to increase the efficiency of the rainwater pumping station, the analysis of flow characteristics in the pump sump is needed for vortex control. Many efforts have been made to illuminate the vortex behavior using PIV, but any reliable results have not been obtained yet, because of the limitations in image capturing and dependency of measured velocity values on the interrogation area and time interval used for velocity calculation. In this study, therefore, experiments were carried out to find out the limitation of PIV and estimate the validation of the velocity values associated with the analysis parameters such as interrogation area, time interval, grid size. For the experimental condition used in this study, the limitation of PIV and the effects of parameters on the velocity estimation are presented.

A simultaneous measurement system that can analyze the flow-structure interactions(FSI) has been constructed and analyses on the flow field and the motion field of a floating cylinder was made. The three-dimensional vector fields around the cylinder are measured by 3D-PTV technique while the motion of the cylinder forced by the flow field is measured simultaneously with a newly developed motion tracking algorithm(bidirectional tracking algorithm). The cylinder is pendant in the working fluid of a water channel and the surface of the working fluid is forced sinusoidal to make the cylinder bounced. The interaction between the flow fields and the cylinder motion is examined quantitatively.
Tumble or swirl flow is used adequately to promote mixing of air and fuel in the cylinder and to enlarge turbulent intensity in the late time of compression stroke. However, since in-cylinder flow is a kind of transient state with rapid flow variation, that is, non-steady state flow, swirl or tumble flow has not been analyzed sufficiently and not been recognized whether they are available for combustion theoretically yet. In the investigation of intake turbulent characteristics using PIV method, different flow characteristics were showed according to SCV figures. SCV installed engine had higher vorticity, turbulent strength by fluctuation and turbulent kinetic energy than a baseline engine, especially around the wall and lower part of the cylinder. Consequently, as swirl flow was added to existing tumble flow, it was found that fluctuation component increased and flow energy was conserved effectively through the experiment.

The mixing behavior of turbidity currents in a reservoir is closely related with the annual temperature change of the reservoir. In the summer, the reservoir has a well defined structure: one or two thermoclines and some layers of different densities. This density stratification inhibits vertical mixing and affects various hydrodynamic processes within the reservoir. Therefore, many reservoirs can be operated to release water of the specific quality with the selective withdrawal. In this study, the hydraulic experiments were performed to analyze the efficiency of selective withdrawal. The velocity distributions are measured with PIV in the stratified tank with the "two-tank" method. The relationship between the Richardson number and the selective withdrawal efficiency are provided using the measured velocity distributions.
The paper presented some results of a experimental study of natural convection in partitioned 2D square enclosure. The square enclosure consist of two adiabatic vertical walls and the upper cold and the lower hot walls. A partition is positioned perpendicularly at the center of left vertical insulated wall The PIV mesaurements were performed with the variations of the partition length and inclination of enclosure. The working fluid is water with a Prandtl number of 6.996 at $20^{\circ}C$ temperature. A captured images were calculated by using a Cross-Correlation(Multi-frame/Single-exposure) method.

The unsteady flow in three-dimensional cubic cavity with narrow channel at upper region is investigated experimentally for three kinds of Reynolds number, 1*10/sup 4/, 3*10/sup 4/ and 5*10/sup 4/ based on the cavity width and cavity inlet mean flow velocity. Instant velocity vectors are obtained simultaneously at whole field by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry). Wall pressure distributions are estimated using Poisson equation from the velocity data. Results of PIV reveal that severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable at all Reynolds numbers and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet driving flow is collided with the clock-wise rotating main primary vortex. Instant velocity profiles reveal that deformed forced vortex formation is observed throughout the entire region and spanwise kinetic energy migration is conspicuous.

Instantaneous velocity distribution within coaxial circular pipe for measurement velocity of high speed is acquired simultaneously by applying the 2-dimensional PTV system consisting of a pulse generator(AOM:Acousto-Optical Modulator), a continuous-output laser and a PC image grabber together with experimental apparatus. The basic mechanism of AOM and vector identification method and performance-related image processing techniques are discussed. Representative measuring regions $90{\times}90$mm are selected and instantaneous vectors are represented and fully developed turbulent flow of maximum velocity up to about 1.0 m/sec is obtained.
