A low earth orbit satellite with a fixed solar array always has a sun-pointing attitude during daylight, and changes into a nadir-pointing attitude for a imaging mission. Since external heating sources to the satellite panels are Earth irradiation and Albedo during most of daylight in a sun-pointing attitude, the thermal environment condition is relatively stable. However, direct sunlight which is the greatest environmental heating has an affect on the satellite panels during a mission period (10% of one orbit) in a nadir-pointing attitude. In satellite thermal design, thermal effects of a nadir-pointing mission attitude due to this thermal environment change need to be evaluated although the duration of a nadir-pointing attitude is short. Therefore, a nadir-pointing attitude during a mission is incorporated into thermal model and by the thermal analysis result, thermal effects on the satellite are investigated.
Conceptual design of an Aerostat was completed. Configuration was determined based on wind tunnel test results of aeostat hulls to have longitudinal static stability. Hull surface area and volume were obtained by using of Cubic spline method for given configuration and length. Final length of a hull was determined by iteration process. Cable tension and payload were estimated for conceptual design. A parametric study was performed for various weight and misson altitude. As results, a 30m class aerostat was designed and described.

통신해양기상위성은 크게 탑재체와 지상국으로 나눌 수 있고 지상국은 다시 통신 임무를 위한 CTES(Communication Test Earth Station), 해양/기상 임무를 위한 IDACS(Image Acquisition and Control System), 그리고 위성 관제와 운영을 위한 SGCS(Satellite Ground Control System)로 구분된다.

The operational orbit evolution of the KOMPSAT-l over 3 years was analyzed. During LEOP, four orbit maneuvers were performed to obtain the optimized orbit and eight safe-hold modes happened. The effects of unpredictable occurrence of the safe-hold mode and the highest solar activity on the orbit evolution during the mission life were analyzed. The comparison of orbital elements between long-term predicted orbit and determined orbit from observed data was also performed. The operational orbit started from the optimized one was evolved within the boundary of the designed mission orbit except altitude and it was verified the sun-synchronous orbit was successfully maintained.

Recently, as the CAPSTONE, a precursor mission for Lunar Gateway, was launched on a small launch vehicle for the purpose of demonstrating communications and navigation technology in the NRHO, large attention was brought to this event that enabled high-impact deep space mission using dedicated small launch vehicle and small spacecraft. In this study, we introduced the concept of a dual launch operation and examined the capability of the new concept in the exploration of the Moon, Mars and asteroid. It turned out a single launch is sufficient for the lunar low orbit mission up to around 247 kg, and the dual launch option can transport 215 kg and 183 kg to nearby destinations as such as Mars and astroid Apophis respectively.

In August 2012 the first CanSat competition was hosted by the Satellite Research Center of KAIST under auspice of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The present authors team won the first prize in the university session. In this paper the overall procedure of the CanSat project presented from the conceptual design stage to the final launch test. As the compulsory mission CanSat should send GPS data and attitude information to the ground station which in practice was performed via Bluetooth channel. In addition our CanSat is designed to trace the sun for the solar panels supplying electric power of satellite. IMU and servo motors are used for the attitude control in order that the solar sensor of the CanSat is always direct towards the sun. Launching of CanSat was simulated by dropping from a balloon at the height of around 150m via parachute. Launching test results showed that the attitude control of the CanSat and its solar sensing function were successful.

We propose an autonomous mission management software design and verification technique for unmanned aerial vehicles to autonomously mitigate dynamic situation changes occurred in the inside and outside of an aircraft in compliance with the mitigation priority order. The proposed autonomous mission management software is designed in a modular architecture that consists of concurrently executing multiple threads. To verify it, we suggest three verification steps: 1) software integration by checking the expected request/response messages between the threads for all possible dynamic situation changes; 2) integration test to verify the software functionality; 3) performance test to verify the quantitative software performance. Especially, the software integration test environment is built and utilized to carry out the integration and performance tests.
