Mission Planning and Control Analysis Algorithms for the Safe Flight of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (무인항공기의 안전한 운항을 위한 임무계획/통제 분석 기법)

  • An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is generally flied via a pre-planned flight path or real-time commands by an operator. To succeed in an assigned mission, analysis such as the line-of-sight analysis for communication between UAV and a ground data terminal should be performed. In this paper, various analysis algorithms which are performed by a ground control station in pre-flight and in-flight phases, are proposed for the safe flight of UAV. Note that the proposed algorithms can be applied to most UAV systems.

  • 20세기에 탄생한 동력비행기는 인간의 이동능력을 비약적으로 향상시켰다. 인류의 미개척지였던 항공분야의 발전은 지속적인 기술개발을 통해 더 빨리, 더 멀리, 더 높이 향하기 위해서 계속 나아가고 있다. 이러한와중에 최근에 괄목할 만한 성장을 이룬 컴퓨터와 소프트웨어 산업의 발전은 비행임무에 따라 위험성이 높거나, 사람이 하기 힘든 반복적이고 지루한 비행을 대신하기위한 로봇 비행체 즉, 무인항공기의 개발을 가능하게 하였다. 무인항공기의 탄생 초기에는 조종사의 희생을 줄이기 위해 군사 분야에서 주로 사용되었으나, 산림감시나 해안정찰, 기상관측, 재난관측, 조난자 수색 등 민수분야의 임무로 점차 활동영역이 넓혀지고 있다. 현재 무인항공기에 탑재된 인공지능의 수준은 안정된 비행이 가능하도록 하는 자동조종(autopilot)과 주어진 비행경로를 추종하기위한 항법유도(Navigation & Guidance)정도이며, 비행 중 발생하는 비상상황에 대처하기 위한 의사판단은 지상의 조종자에 의해 결정된다. 앞으로는 계획되지 않은 상황을 맞이했을 때 무인기 스스로 판단하여 경로를 변경하고, 동시에 여러 무인기들과 협력하여 임무를 수행함으로써 임무효율을 높이는 방향으로 인공지능의 수준이 향상될 것이다. 본 논문에서는 최근의 무인항공기 개발추세와 이들 무인기에 고려되고 있는 제어기에 대해 살펴보고, 향후 무인항공기에 적용될 자율비행 알고리듬과 제어기 시스템의 개발동향에 대해 고찰하였다.

A Optimization Study of UAV Path Planning Generation based-on Rapid-exploring Random Tree Method (급속탐색랜덤트리기법 기반의 무인 비행체 경로계획생성 최적화 연구)

  • As the usage of unmanned aerial vehicles expands, the development and the demand of related technologies are increasing. As the frequency of operation increases and the convenience of operation is emphasized, the importance of related autonomous flight technology is also highlighted. Establishing a path plan to reach the destination in autonomous flight of an unmanned aerial vehicle is important in guidance and control, and a technology for automatically generating path plan is required in order to maximize the effect of unmanned aerial vehicle. In this study, the optimization research of path planning using rapid-exploring random tree method was performed for increasing the effectiveness of autonomous operation. The path planning optimization method considering the characteristics of the unmanned aerial vehicle is proposed. In order to achieve indexes such as optimal distance, shortest time, and passage of mission points, the path planning was optimized in consideration of the mission goals and dynamic characteristics of the unmanned aerial vehicle. The proposed methods confirmed their applicability to the generation of path planning for unmanned aerial vehicles through performance verification for obstacle situations.

  • The optimized flight path planning which is appropriate for UAV operation with high performance and multiplex sensors is required for efficient ISR missions. Furthermore, a mission visualization tool is necessary for the assessment of MoE(Measures of Effectiveness) prior to mission operation and the urgent tactical decision in peace time and wartime. A mission visualization and analysis tool was developed by combining STK and MATLAB, whose tool was used for UAV ISR mission analyses in this study. In this mission analysis tool, obstacle avoidance and FoM(Figure of Merit) analysis algorithms were applied to enable the optimized mission planning.

Study on Practical Use of Air Vehicle Test Equipment(AVTE) for UAV Operation Support (무인항공기 운용 지원을 위한 비행체 점검장비 활용에 관한 연구)

  • AVTE(Air Vehicle Test Equipment) is an equipment to inspect and check the status of on-board aircraft LRUs(Line Replacement Units) before and after flight for performing successful UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) missions. This paper suggests utilization of the AVTE as an operation support-equipment by implementing several critical functions for UAV-operation on the AVTE. The AVTE easily sets initialization(default) data and compensates for the installation and position errors of the LRUs which provide critical mission data and situation image with pilots without additional individual operation support-equipment. Major fault list and situation image data could be downloaded after flight using the AVTE in the event of UAV emergency situation or unusual occurrence on duty as well. We anticipate the suggested operational approach of the AVTE could dramatically reduce the cost and man power for design and manufacture of additional operation support equipment and effectively diminish workload of the operator.

  • This paper describe the Lateral Navigation algorithm design and verification that implementation on Mission Computer's OFP for Korean Utility Helicopter(KUH) instead of Auto Flight Control System(AFCS) Vehicle Management System. The LNAV function transmits Roll command into the AFCS System. The Roll command value will be calculated by control algorithms in MC. The Operational Flight Program(OFP) shall use for its calculations different measurements of the aircraft's attitude and place. Using these inputs, the OFP will translate a navigational demand(for example-to perform the selected flight plan) into Roll commands to the autopilot. By conducting integration test using SIL and ground test, flight test, it is confirmed that the introduced algorithm meets the requirements of the Mission Equipment Package(MEP) system. LNAV function is verified through the System Integration Laboratory(SIL) test, ground and flight test.

  • 록히드사가 제작한 마하 3의 첩보 비행기 SR-71 Blackbird가 1990년에 첩보 비행 임무를 종료하게 되었을 때, 많은 항공 전문가들은 미 공군이 무언가를 숨기고 있다고 생각하였다 지금까지 나타난 여러가지 징후들을 종합해 보면 SR-71의 후속비행기로서 마하 6의 속도를 가진 첩보 비행기가 존재한다는 심증이 굳어지고 있다 다른 첩보 비행기를 운용할 계획도 없이 SR-71만 운용 중지키로 하고 더 이상 이 문제에 대한 언급이 없는데 대해, 대부분의 군사 전문가들은 미 공군이 세계에서 가장 빠르고 고공으로 비행하는 비행기를 운용 중지하면서 그 후속 대안없이 손을 뗀다는 것과, 그럴 경우 정보수집임무의 많은 것을 포기해야한다는 점에 강한 의문을 소개한다 미 정부 관리들은 이런 종류의 비행기를 보유하고 있지 않다고 부인하면서 위성을 이용해 첩보 비행기가 수행하던 임무를 충분히 수행할 수 있다고 말하며, 또한 록히드사에서도 SR-71 후속 첩보기를 개발하는데 참여한 바 없다고 부인하고 있으나, 그동안 수집된 자료를 종합해보면 미 정부가 이 비밀 첩보기의 존재를 자의로 밝히던지 또는 타의에 의해 밝혀지던지 곧 노출될 것으로 보인다

A Study on Mission Analysis in Consideration of Effectiveness Measurement of UAV System Operations (UAV 체계운용효과도를 고려한 임무분석 연구)

  • This paper deals with a study on mission analysis considering the effectiveness measurement of UAV system operations. This mission analysis process is composed of 5 steps; (1) creation of a base model in MANA, (2) design of input parameter set using experiment design, (3) mapping input parameter set to the MANA scenario file, (4) data farming and model run in batch process, and (5) statistical analysis of the simulation result. In the result of this study, the effect of input parameter to the dependent parameter was shown to decrease in the order classification range, sweep width, height, speed, FOV(Field of view), and classification probability. The study also shows that the operational effectiveness of an improved scenario proposed can increase 10.2% from the base scenario.

  • This paper describes the development of an automated operational orbit processing system (KGS automated Operational Orbit Processing System, KOOPS), which can determine, evaluate, update, and generate the orbit data automatically. Developed system can be applied to the multi satellite mission operations as a generic satellite orbit processing system in that the KOOPS has a capability to process various kinds of tracking data and assign pre and post processes according to the satellite system respectively. Results of applying the KOOPS to the KOMPSAT-1 and KOMPSAT-2 mission operations show that man power is greatly reduced and the efficiency and stability of the mission operations are significantly increased. The experiences to develop the KOOPS and operate multi satellite missions using this system can be applied to enhance the multi and generic flight dynamics system further.

  • 3단형 과학로켓(KSR-III)의 기본형 및 응용형에 공통으로 사용되는 주엔진은 액체산소를 산화제로, 케로신을 연료로 사용하는 액체추진기관이다. 엔진 기본설계를 통하여 로켓 임무 요구사항에 부합되도록 엔진 각 부분의 기본제원을 설정하였고, 엔진의 형상을 결정하였다. 설계된 엔진의 성능검증 작업은 분사시험용 엔진, 축소형 엔진, 엔지니어링 모델 및 비행시험모델의 설계/제작/시험을 통하여 순차적으로 수행할 계획이다. 본 연구는 3단형 과학로켓 엔진의 기본설계 및 성능검증 계획에 관한 것이다.
