This descriptive study investigated depression among 4,904 elderly people aged 60 to 90 years using the Korean Retirement and Income Study. The depressive group and non-depressive group were classified by the depression self-diagnostic scale, CES-D. The effects of general characteristics, disability, disability type, IADL, and social support on depression were examined. A t-test, chi-squared test, and logistic regression analysis were used to identify risk factors affecting depression. The average age of the depressive group was 75.10 years, which was higher than the average age of the non-depressive group (73.44 years), indicating that depression increased with age. Elderly who were female, elderly with no spouse, elderly with lower educational attainment and with a lower household income were in the depressed group. The score to perform IADL of disabled persons was higher than that of non-disabled persons, and the social support was lower. Logistic regression analysis performed to determine the risk factors affecting depression revealed that it was affected by disability and type of disability. Although this study has some limitations, the results presented herein can be used as a basis for understanding elderly with disabilities and developing future healthcare programs for them.
In recent years, human is experiencing an 'untact' era that has not been existed before. A remarkable features of an untact era is a limited or no interaction with other people and things in a daily life. In order to overcome this special situation, diverse state-of-the-art technologies like ICT technology are being used to give the effect of face-to-face and contact. In particular, Virtual Reality technology allows users to actively interact with virtual environments, objects, and other people, thereby providing effects that are as similar as possible to experience in real life. School freshmen are also experiencing various inconveniences because they are not experiencing the environment or academic management of newly admitted schools in the untact era. This research is a study and implementation of 'Virtual School Life Experience Content' which provides new students to tour campus, to utilize the school buildings facilities, to experience of academic schedules including course registration, and to participate in school events in an environment that is as close as possible to the real campus. Freshmen will be able to easily adapt to a new school through the implemented VR content.

This study examined the effects of the demographic and health characteristics and chronic diseases on the health-related quality of life in service employees. From January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014, this study analyzed the data on 607 service employees based on the 2nd data of the 6th National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey with at-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical regression analysis use of SPSS. The results of the analysis showed that the quality of Life in women was lower (${\beta}=-.074$, p=.050) than that of men, and the older the subjects were, the lower their quality of life(${\beta}=307$, p=.000). Regarding the subjective health status, there was a significant increase in the "very Poor"(${\beta}=186$, p=0.027) and "good"(${\beta}=196$, p=.001) status. The quality of life improved with increasing activity (${\beta}=-0.222$, p=0.000)). Some of the subjects perceived "high stress" (${\beta}=-0.123$, p=0.003) and the others perceived "low stress"(${\beta}=-0.176$, p=0.000). The less they perceived stress, the higher their quality of life. The factors explained 24.6% of the health-related quality of life of the subjects. Therefore, to improve health-related quality of life of service employees, more activity opportunities should be given, the subjective health status should be positively perceived and psychological measures to decrease the level of stress should be developed.
The purpose of this study is to find a way to improve the hospice system to increase comfortable home death, which people prefer, by understanding the factors affecting the difference in the rate of home death between South Korea and America within the hospice system. This study employs the Most Similar Systems Design, which is a case study approach. The result of this study is that both countries have public health insurance systems that are identical in terms of the appropriate time for the receipt of hospice services and the application procedure, which requires that two doctors confirm the patient's hospice eligibility. The main difference is that in South Korea, inpatient hospice is prevalent, whereas routine home care is predominant in the United States. Furthermore, in the United States, hospice assistants and housekeepers support at-home daily living care. Additionally, the United States provides inpatient respite care to allow care-giver, such as family to rest and there is no restriction on hospice-eligible diseases. To increase the accessibility of voluntary home death in South Korea, it is necessary to activate and expand the home type hospice service range and provide at-home daily living care, care-giver support services. Furthermore, there should be no restrictions on hospice-eligible diseases.
Childhood obesity has rapidly increased in Korea during the past 20-30 years. Approximately 1 of 10 children and adolescents is obese. Appropriate prevention and intervention measures urgently need. Obesity prevention starts early in life, i.e., obesity prevention and education begins during the period of fetal development in utero. Behavioral changes are the most positively reflected during pregnancy. Infants should be fed breast milk, and inculcated with healthy eating and behavioral habits during infancy to ultimately establish a healthy lifestyle in children. For achieving a lifestyle and behavior that successfully allow children to overcome obesity, although individual motivation is important, active support of parents and family members is also imperative. Health care providers should also make an effort to actively prevent obesity and take necessary intervention actions. Although the efforts of individuals, family, and healthy care providers are important to prevent the rapid increase in obesity, primary prevention should be encouraged at a higher level. Schools should specifically aim at improving nutrition and physical activity by allocating times for healthy eating, playing, and physical education. Moreover, local communities should provide support by funding for safe recreational environments, such as playgrounds and walking tracks. Public health strategies in community and national policies, such as city planning, food marketing, and advertisements, are required for primary prevention of obesity.
In this study, wireless measurement technique for human motion was developed to monitor movement disorder patients during their daily life. MICA, TinyOS, and nesC, developed by UC Berkeley, were used as wireless sensor, its software platform, and programming language. The human motion data, generated by two axial accelerometer(ADXL202) was transmitted to PDA(iPaq3630) by 916Mhz short range communication chip(TR1000). It could be stored at PDA by simple Windows CE programming. To test the developed device, it was attached at human chest and the acquired data was shown as a graph during his motion of sitting, standing, and lying. The result showed that human motion could be logged without any hooking and constraints. Therefore, this device can be used to monitor patient's movement disorder and activity of daily life(ADL).

The purpose of this study is to clarify the concept of the frail elderly and to obtain theoretical evidence. The research method was conducted using the basic principles for conceptual analysis of Walker and Avant(2005). As a Result of a review of the literature about how to utilize the concept of a frail elderly, frail elderly might be in the intermediate state of health and disease. They can be defined as physically vulnerable in the sarcopenia, inflammation, insulin resistance, and preceding advanced disease, lead to hospitalization, falls, disability, and death. The attributes were physiological, psychological, and socio-environmental and economic factors, so they had multidimensional factors. They were required the assist daily living of another person. Also, their attributes had decreased the amount of recovery time and degree, and exhaustion. The attributes of frail elderly consisted of these facts: dynamic process, multidimensional factors, dependency, vulnerability. The frail elderly was a dynamic process that involves the possibility of change to health and disease, and include physical, mental, cognitive, and social environmental factors. In addition, the frail elderly was difficulty in daily life, physical vulnerability and difficulty in adaption. In conclusion, frail elderly as defined by the results of this study will contribute to the foundation of health care systems, including community visiting nursing to understand the level of frail elderly and systemic management to do not go into long term care.

The goal of this study was to investigate the influence of exercise training with or without blood flow restriction (BFR) on physical performance and balance in elderly females. Participants (N = 43) were randomly divided into combined exercise with BFR group (n = 14, EX-BFR), only combine exercise group (n =14, EX) or a non-exercise control group (n = 15, CON). Both EX-BFR and EX groups had completed exercise training for 12 weeks. During the training period, the CON group maintained their normal lives. After baseline tests, two-way repeated measures ANOVA with contrast testing was conducted using SPSS 22.0. Study results found that physical performance and balance in both EX-BFR and EX groups were significantly improved, and fall index in both EX-BFR and EX groups were significantly decreased. There were no changes in the CON group. In addition, the % change and effect size of all variables in the EX-BFR group were larger than the EX group. So, the results showed that the EX-BFR group had performed more intense exercise caused by restricted blood flow during the training period compared to the EX group. Thus, exercise with BFR training may additionally influence physical performance and balance in elderly females.
This paper proposes a small-scale rehabilitation system that allows stroke patients to perform daily rehabilitation training in a virtual home. Stroke patients have limited activities of daily living due to paralysis, and there are many rehabilitation exercises for them to reproduce activities that take place in the house, such as turning lights on and off, door opening and closing, gas valve locking. In this paper, we have implemented a virtual home with the above mentioned daily rehabilitation training elements, by using virtual reality technology. We use Leap Motion, a hand motion recognition device, for rehabilitation of hands and fingers. It is expected that stroke patients can rehabilitate small muscles without having to visit the clinic with uncomfortable body, and will be able to get interesting rehabilitation training by avoiding monotony of existing rehabilitation tools.
