Efficiency of Soil and Fertilizer Nitrogen in relation to Rice Variety and Application Time, Using $^{15}N$ Labelled Fertilizer -I. N.P.K. simple trials in farmers fields- (중질소(重窒素)를 이용한 수도품종(水稻品種) 및 시용시기(施用時期)에 따른 토양 및 시비질소(施肥窒素)의 효율 -제1보(第一報). 농가포장(農家圃場)에서의 NPK 단순시험(單純試驗)-)

  • For the investigation of efficient use of fertilizer nitrogen NPK simple trials were carried out using newly bred Tongil line(japonica indica hybrid selection) and the leading local varieties with sulfur coated area in fields for two years. The yield of Tongil line was higher than that of leading local varieties by 16% in the cool year and 23% is warm year with high solar radiation from NPK simple trials including SCU and 2-split application which were carried in 130 fields at 32 locations. Warm year increased yield by 9% in Tongil but only 3% in the local than the cool year did. Optimum nitrogen level was higher in Tongil by 3.8㎏ in the cool year and 5.5㎏ in warm year than for the local. Yearly variation of optimum nitrogen in the carne variety was greater than varietal variation in the same Year. Two-split application resulted in 1 to 2% of inconsistent yield variation. Sulfur coated urea increased yield by average 2 to 4% even at 20% reduced rate of nitrogen. It was remarkably effective in same $(27{\sim}39%)$, virgin (20%) and unmatured (10%) soils.

Evaluation of Ventilation Systems in an Enclosed Growing Pig House (무창육성돈사의 환기시스템에 따른 환기효율 평가)

  • An experiment was conducted to evaluate a ventilation system, which was devised to encourage farmers to use the enclosed growing and finishing pig housing system. A roof-air-entry ventilation system in winter and a side-wall-air-entry system in summer were evaluated. Air flow rate on the floor level which is the low part of pen and the living area of pigs in the enclosed growing and finishing pig house during winter was measured at 0 to 0.19 m/s at the minimum ventilation efficiency of 1,440 $m^{3}/h$. During summer the air flow rate was detected at 0.07 to 0.42 m/s at the maximum ventilation efficiency of 24,000 $m^{3}/h$. Therefore, it is concluded that the side-wall ventilation system is suitable for growing and finishing pigs in the enclosed house during the days of mid-summer and the roof-ventilation system was suitable during the coldest days of mid-winter. In addition, although the enclosed pig house has the system in which air exhausts through only one side wall, air should enter through both-side walls for the better ventilation performance.

Effect of Organic Fertilizer as Bio-com Application on the Changes of Soil Microorganisms, Gas Evolution, and Mineral-N Transformation in Submerged Condition (유기질비료(有機質肥料) Bio-com 시용(施用)이 토양(土壤)의 미생물상(微生物相) 및 화학성(化學性)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • A laboratory experiment was conducted to find out the effect of organic fertilizer as Bio-com$^{(R)}$ on the changes of pH and Eh values, gas evolution, ammonification and nitrification, and microbial population with farmer's compost and refused mushroom compost in submerged paddy condition. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Application of compost and refused mushroom compost was increased the pH values than that of NPK alone. Organic fertilizer of Bio-com$^{(R)}$ showed the same results of the farmer's compost or refused mushroom compost. 2. Population of soil microbes as bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi was increased by application of compost, refused mushroom compost and Bio-com$^{(R)}$. Moreover, the results were pronounced more with the addition of NPK. 3. The application of Bio-com$^{(R)}$ was effected to the increase of the amount of $NO_3-N$ and the rate of nitrification than NPK, farmer's compost or refused mushroom compost. 4. The amounts of evolved gases as $CH_4$, $CO_2$, and $N_2O$ were not much differed with application of kinds of compost and NPK, but little increasing tendency was observed in application of NPK than that of NPK+kinds of compost.

Anthracnose of Pepper seedling caused by Colletotrichum coccodes (Wallr.) Hughes (Colletotrichum coccodes(Wallr.) Hughes에 의(依)한 고추 유묘탄저병(幼苗炭疽病))

  • A leaf anthracnose disease of pepper(Capsicum annuum L.) seedling caused by Colletotrichum coccodes was found in fields of Chungnam District for the first time in 1988. Initial symptom of the disease was spotting on leaves and stems of the seedlings. The spots became sunken and gradually increased in size and coalesced to form bigger irregular spots and blights on the leaves. In severely affected fields, many pepper seedlings were defoliated and lodged. Field survey revealed that the infection rate of anthracnose ranged form 15.3% to 92.3%. Conidia from lesions on seedlings were hyaline, aseptate, straight, cylindrical with obtuse ends, $115-25(av.\;19.\;5){\times}2.5-4.8{\mu}m(av.\;3.3{\mu}m)$ and setaes were straightly extended above the acervuli, $41.3-136.3\;{\um}m(av.\;85.0{\mu}m)$ long. The fungus produced abundant sclerotia on PDA when it was cultured under darkness. In the inoculation experiments, the fungus was found to infect pepper seedlings and fruits, and fruits of tomato and egg plant.

Economic Value Evaluation of Ecosystem Services in Organic Rice-Fish Mixed Farming System in Paddy Wetland (벼-담수어 유기농 복합생태 논습지의 생태계서비스 경제적 가치평가)

  • This study aims to economically evaluate rice production and various ecological services provided by organic rice paddy carrying out rice-fish mixed farming. It was also conducted to find a stable structure for increasing the income of rice-producing farmers and promoting ecological services by evaluating the economic feasibility of organic rice paddy for rice-fish mixed farming. As a result of the analysis of expected effects by ecological service functions according to the types of agriculture in the rice-fish mixed farming, general conventional paddy fields were evaluated to have an effect of continuously decreasing biodiversity such as amphibian reptiles, aquatic insects, bird habitats, experience and ecological education, and vegetation diversity, while the biodiversity of organic and rice-fish mixed paddy fields was assessed to increase. As a result of evaluating the economic value, as the area for fish production increases compared to the common practice and organic paddy fields, rice production decreases, but fish production increases and total income was analyzed to increase. In addition, if the value of ecosystem service functions is assessed in the future, it will increase further. It is hoped that these findings will be used as basic data for solving oversupply problems in the rice industry, preserving safe farm income, and improving sustainable farming and ecosystem service functions.

Annual Occurrence Patterns and Three Dimensional Distribution of Mushroom Flies in Pleurotus ostreatus Cultivation Farms (느타리버섯 재배에서 버섯파리의 연중발생패턴과 입체적 분포)

  • Among flies inside mushroom growing rooms in three farms, Lycoriella ingenua and Megaselia tamilnaduensis were the most common and dominant species during Pleurotus ostreatus cultivation in Korea. In the past, generally, during the incubation period, a low density of mushroom flies was observed in all farms. After the first harvest, mushroom flies density tended to increase sharply. However, many mushroom flies were observed in the summer, despite that season corresponds to the incubation period. This is because annual cultivation systems provide a safe overwintering place compared to seasonal selective ones. The ecology of mushroom flies varies greatly according to the cultivation system. We confirmed that a fallow period reduced the density of mushroom flies. From a survey of the three dimensional distribution of mushroom flies in a growing room, we observed that M. tamilnaduensis showed more positive phototaxis and a higher variation per point of capture than that by L. ingenua. Through this study, two mushroom fly species were identified in the survey farms, with markedly different three dimensional distribution patterns.

Characteristics and Assessment of Water Quality by Vinyl House Cultivation in Pal-dang Lake Basin (비닐하우스 경작에 따른 팔당호 유역의 수질특성 및 오염도 평가)

  • 일반적으로 비닐하우스내의 농작물 경작은 자연환경과 차단된 조건에서 작물을 집약적으로 재배하므로 비료의 사용량이 많아 오염원으로 작용하고, 휴작기에 비닐을 제거 방치하므로 비닐 표면에 집적된 오염물은 강우 시 유출되어 이들로 인한 주변 하천수 및 지하수 오염을 가중시킨다. 따라서 팔당호 유역내 하천 부지에서 비닐하우스 등이 집단화 되어 있어 이로 인해 팔당호 유역내 수질에 영향을 미칠 것으로 판단된다. 또한 팔당호 유역내 하천부지에서 대단위 비닐농가가 집단적으로 조성되어 있는 것으로 조사되었으며, 팔당호 유역내 산발적으로 비닐하우스 농가가 형성되어 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 이들 비닐하우스로부터 비강우시에는 유출 오염수는 없는 것으로 파악되었으나, 강우 시 강우유출수가 표면 유출되는 과정에서 오염수가 팔당호로 직접 유입되어 팔당호 수질에 영향을 미치는 것으로 파악되었다. 팔당호 유역의 비닐하우스 경작에 의한 수질특성 조사 결과, SS 농도는 북한강 $372{\sim}446$ $mg/{\ell}$, 남한강 $488{\sim}547$ $mg/{\ell}$, 경안천 $345{\sim}415$ $mg/{\ell}$로 조사되었으며, BOD 농도는 북한강 $12.2{\sim}15.3$ $mg/{\ell}$, 남한강 $13.3{\sim}16.8$ $mg/{\ell}$, 경안천 $15.6{\sim}18.8$ $mg/{\ell}$으로 조사되었고, COD 농도는 북한강 $23.9{\sim}26.8$ $mg/{\ell}$, 남한강 $25.2{\sim}26.0$ $mg/{\ell}$, 경안천 $26.4{\sim}32.9$ $mg/{\ell}$로 조사되었다. 또한 T-N 농도는 북한강 $17.39{\sim}23.64$ $mg/{\ell}$, 남한강 $17.87{\sim}22.09$ $mg/{\ell}$, 경안천 $18.34{\sim}19.55$ $mg/{\ell}$으로 조사되었으며, T-P 농도는 북한강 $1.425{\sim}1.795$ $mg/{\ell}$, 남한강 $1.519{\sim}1.767$ $mg/{\ell}$, 경안천 $1.727{\sim}1.827$ $mg/{\ell}$로 조사되었다. 또한, 오염부하량으로부터 산정된 비닐하우스의 하천에 미치는 오염부하기여율은 SS의 경우 17.3%, BOD 4.5%, COD 5.2%, T-N 11.0%, T-P 7.4%로 조사되었다. 이는 비닐하우스 농가에서 유출되는 SS 및 T-N, T-P 오염부하량이 하천에 미치는 영향이 상대적으로 높다는 것을 의미하며, 이는 비닐하우스 주변이 주로 나대지로 되어 있고 비료 또는 영양물질이 많기 때문인 것으로 판단된다. 그러나 탄소성 유기물질을 나타내는 BOD 및 COD의 오염부하기여율은 주변 토양과 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 결국 비닐하우스의 재배는 토양 표면피복의 효과적인 관리 및 영양물질에 대한 관리가 이루어지지 않을 경우 팔당호에 영향을 미칠 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Evaluation of Slurry, Urine and Fermented Liquid Manure at Pig Farms in the Jeju Area Regarding Chemical Composition and Pollution Level (제주지역 양돈장에서 생산된 액비의 비료성분 및 오염도 평가)

  • Pig slurry, urine and fermented liquid manure were evaluated measuring electrical conductivity (EC), dry matter (DM) contents and other components. Samples were collected during a period from February to April, 2001: slurry samples from 70 storage tanks, urine samples from 19 and 20 fermented liquid manure samples from 109 pig farms in Jeju. Samples were analyzed for pH, EC, DM, $NH_4$-N, K, P, Ca, Mg, Na, BOD, S-S, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn and OM. Relationships between EC or DM and various mineral and $NH_4$-N contents were examined using linear regression. EC, DM, all mineral contents and $NH_4$-N were higher in slurry samples than in urine or fermented liquid manure. EC, $NH_4$-N, Ca, Mg and Na concentration was similar in urine and fermented liquid manure, but K and DM values in liquid manure were twice as much as in urine. P concentration was higher in urine than in liquid manure. $NH_4$-N and Na in slurry, $NH_4$-N in urine and $NH_4$-N, P and Ca in fermented liquid manure were highly correlated with EC, while $NH_4$-N, P, Ca and Mg in slurry, $NH_4$-N and Ca in urine, and K, P, Ca, Mg, and Na in fermented liquid manure with DM (P<0.05). BOO in slurry (22,520 mg/mL) was higher than that in urine (4,763) and fermented liquid manure (2,701). Results indicated that slurry is a better fertilizer source than urine or fermented liquid manure. However, slurry may pollute soil more than urine or fermented liquid manure when applied to land, although the levels are not above the permit.

Monitoring of Working Environment Exposed to Particulate Matter in Greenhouse for Cultivating Flower and Fruit (과수 및 화훼 시설하우스 내 작업자의 미세먼지 노출현황 모니터링)

  • With the wide use of greenhouses, the working hours have been increasing inside the greenhouse for workers. In the closed ventilated greenhouse, the internal environment has less affected to external weather during making a suitable temperature for crop growth. Greenhouse workers are exposed to organic dust including soil dust, pollen, pesticide residues, microorganisms during tillage process, soil grading, fertilizing, and harvesting operations. Therefore, the health status and working environment exposed to workers should be considered inside the greenhouse. It is necessary to secure basic data on particulate matter (PM) concentrations in order to set up dust reduction and health safety plans. To understand the PM concentration of working environment in greenhouse, the PM concnentrations were monitored in the cut-rose and Hallabong greenhouses in terms of PM size, working type, and working period. Compare to no-work (move) period, a significant increase in PM concentration was found during tillage operation in Hallabong greenhouse by 4.94 times on TSP (total suspended particle), 2.71 times on PM-10 (particle size of 10 ㎛ or larger), and 1.53 times on PM-2.5, respectively. During pruning operation in cut-rose greenhouse, TSP concentration was 7.4 times higher and PM-10 concentration was 3.2 times higher than during no-work period. As a result of analysis of PM contribution ratio by particle sizes, it was shown that PM-10 constitute the largest percentage. There was a significant difference in the PM concentration between work and no-work periods, and the concentration of PM during work was significant higher (p < 0.001). It was found that workers were generally exposed to a high level of dust concentration from 2.5 ㎛ to 35.15 ㎛ during tillage operation.

Analysis of Soil Improvements and Soil Characteristics of the High Yielding Paddies (다수확답(多收穫畓) 토양(土壤)의 관리상황(管理狀況)과 이화학적(理化學的) 특성(特性) 분석(分析))

  • A series of soil surveys was conducted in 102 high yielding paddies randomly selected. Each paddy field was the contest winner's in a county, a province or the nationwide during 1976 to 1979. The data on soils and yields of the paddies were evaluated to find out the better practices. Cultivation practices such as intermittent irrigation, deep ploughing and application of soil improvement materials were intensively carried out with the increasing rates of yield. But, the yield of rice in the high yielding paddies was not significantly different according to the paddy soil type or the suitability calss. About 70% of the high yielding paddies were distributed in loam and silty clay loam. The properties of top soil in the high yielding paddies were more improved as compared with the common paddies. The cultivated soil depth and nutrient holding capacity were thought of as the important soil factors for high yield.
