Purpose: This study aimed to explore personal as well as occupational factors and health status associated with work-life balance in Korean registered nurses. Methods: This study was a secondary data analysis using cross-sectional nationally representative data from the Korean Working Conditions Survey (KWCS) in 2014. Study participants included 450 registered nurses in South Korea. Descriptive analysis, Independent t-test, $x^2$ test, and Logistic regression analyses were performed using the SPSS 21.0 statistical program. Results: Work-life balance was reported in 70.6% individuals with 85.7% being male and 70.0% being female nurses. Logistic regression analysis revealed that being male good health state, having less than 40-hour working week, lower number of night duty, policy on flexible work arrangement were significant predictors of work-life balance. Conclusion: This study provided evidence that identify predictors of work-life balance in registered nurses in South Korea. Therefore, we need the actively support health care service promotion and prevention for work-life balance predictors.
Purpose: The study aimed to identify factors influencing work-life balance in female service workers. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with an online survey of 234 service workers using volunteer panels. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire from July 16 to 24, 2017. Major variables included work-life balance, resilience, emotional intelligence, job stress, and fatigue. Using the SPSS 24.0 program, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. Results: The mean score of the work-life balance level of female service workers was $2.9{\pm}0.85$ on a total score of 6. A multiple regression analysis revealed that smoking, resilience, job stress and fatigue were statistically significant factors in the model (p<.001), with an explanatory power of 50.3%. Emotional intelligence was not significantly associated with work-life balance. Conclusion: The level of work-life balance was considerably low in female service workers. This study suggests that nursing interventions to enhance work-life balance are required at both the individual and organizational levels.

This study classified the current work-life balance of full-time female paid workers and tested the typology by using the 2009 Korean Time Survey. The categorization demographic and psychological characteristics of women belonging to each type were comparatively analyzed. It was found that full-time female paid workers used an average of 435.7 minutes for work, 146.4 minutes for family, 104.5 minutes for leisure, and 17.7 minutes for growth. On the basis of times used in each area of work and life, individuals were classified into family-oriented type, work-leisure parallel type, work-oriented type, work-growth parallel type, and work-family parallel type. Psychological characteristics were examined by type. The work-oriented type women experienced feelings of lack of time and fatigue the most compared with women of other types. From examining the influence that the amount of time used in each area of work and life had on psychological characteristics, it was shown that the activity time relevant to leisure influenced psychological characteristics the most. Lastly, based on the limitations of this study, future assignments are discussed.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the influence of work-life balance and insomnia severity on shift working nurses' health promotion behaviors. Methods: Participants were 152 nurses who worked rotating shifts at a general hospital. Data were collected from August 2 to 16, 2023 and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS/WIN 25.0. Results: The participants exhibited high insomnia severity and low scores in both work-life balance and health promotion behaviors. Health promotion behaviors were positively correlated with work-life balance but negatively correlated with insomnia severity. The key factors influencing shift-working nurses' health promotion behaviors included work-life balance (β=.37, p<.001) and gender (female) (β=-.17, p=.026), with an explanatoty power of 18% (F=12.35, p<.001). Conclusion: Work-life balance is a significant variable affecting shift-working nurses' health promotion behaviors. The health of nurses is crucial not only for their personal well-being but also for ensuring the patient safety. Therefore, flexible work systems and adaptable health program schedules must be implemented to promote the health of shift-working nurses.

This research was conducted to identify factors that affect work-life balance and happiness among married working couples with a double income. To this end, a survey was administered to 260 married working couples in the Seoul metropolitan region. The analysis of the survey responses using the SPSS (Ver. 21) program yielded several important results. First, the variables that significantly affected work-family balance included the number of family dinners eaten together, meaning of life, efforts to strike a work-life balance, and the availability of social institutions and policies that promote work-life balance. Variables that significantly affected work-leisure balance included meaning of life, number of family dinners eaten together, gender, and the availability of social institutions and policies that promote work-leisure balance. As for work-growth balance, significant variables included meaning of life, communication with colleagues, income, and meaning of work. Finally, variables that significantly affected happiness included meaning of life, income, communication with colleagues, and work-growth balance. Based on these results, follow-up research needs to be conducted on various groups to help determine the factors that will ensure their work-life balance and happiness.
Workaholism refers to a state in which work is the center of self, a state in which other life other than work is deemed worthless, and a state in which one feels that his or her life ends when things get lost. There are concerns that South Korea's work-centered institutions, cultures and long-time labor practices expose workers to workaholism. This study identifies the prevalence of workaholism and its risk factors among workers using a representative sample from Korean Labor and Income Panel Study. The results of empirical analysis of the wide range of workaholism showed that 7.0% of Korean workers were work-addicts. Male, workers working long hours, daily workers, employers, the self-employed were more likely to be work-addicts. Those who think that workload is high beyond regular working hours are more likely to be work-addicts. These results were also confirmed by regression analysis. It suggests that policies to shorten working hours and strengthen job and income stability can reduce the risk of workaholism and balance between work and life.
The aim of the present study is to test multiple mediating effects of job-efficacy and resiliance in the links between work-life balance (WLB) and deviant behavior. The date applied in empirical analysis was collected from employees working at Jeju island and 400 sets of questionnaires were spread and among collected 355 sets, 298 sets were used. Hypotheses was examined with SPSS Macro statistical package. As expected, WLB was positively related to job-efficacy and resiliance respectively and negatively associated with deviant behaivor. Moreover, mediating effects of both variables was different, in detail, job-efficacy was fully mediated in that path but not significant in case of resiliance. Findings of this study was to expand the roles of WLB from productive behaviors to counter-productive behaviors and it enables to provide a few theoretical and empirical implications.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the present condition of work-leisure balance and its influencing factors in employed young single households. Three groups of sample households-work-oriented, balanced, and leisure-oriented-were compared by factors related to work and leisure. Six cases were interviewed to obtain qualitative data on the subjective meaning of work-life balance and its influencing factors. The results showed different characteristics between the three groups based on the various work- and -leisure- related factors: average weekly working hours of the week, number of vacation days per year, weekday leisure time, degree of weekday freedom, and sufficiency of the leisure cost. In addition, the characteristics considered desirable for quality of life differed between groups. Finding the meaning of life through work and leisure was very important for those respondents, who have an unstable position in the labor market, and who want to delay making decisions on moving into the marriage and family-building phase recognized as a major development task for Korean adults.
In the case of ICT-enabled organizational changes such as Smart Work, appropriate change management is required. To achieve work-life balance, organizational change management should be conducted from both a structural and a cultural perspective. This study looked at organizational factors that affect Smart Work facilitation through a case study with the view of ICT-enabled change management. From November to December 2019, eight Smart Workers of Company A were interviewed and analyzed for organizational support. The results show that structural support such as institutionalization, ICT infrastructure office environment improvement, Smart Work center as well as cultural support such as enhancing autonomy, communicating style of managers, trusting organizational climate are required. The findings suggest balanced organizational support to provide cultural support along with structural support for activating Smart Work operations. In the future, it is necessary to demonstrate the causality between structural/cultural support factors and outcome factors.

A term 'Wolabal' which is an abbreviation of the words, in South Korea means the balance between work and life. The term reflects on people's thoughts to seek for their happiness these days. In fact, they think that the quality of the life is more valuable than any other things on their lives, reflecting on the issues caused by modern societies. 'Wolabal' has emerged as an alternatives to solve the social issues like economic recession, high unemployment rate, aging society, low birth rate and etc. However, in order to establish 'Wolabal' as a culture the comprehensive agreement between an individual and society should be considered first. In society, the system or policies to forster cultural business should be settled while in individual, it is necessary to change the way they think about their work and the qualities of their lives. From this view we have to focus on the relationship between their work and leisure. On the relationship between their work and leisure we should understand that the relationship is not conflicted but co-exists and understanding the real meaning of the relationship is critical in balancing between work and life. The recognition to the labor which has been from the past would give not only the meaning of individual survival but the one of their whole lives. Despite this, modern society has faded away the real meaning of labor because it has focused on the mass manufacturing and sometimes the long-termed economic sluggish has emerged. This trend has made people think about their lives and seek for their lives' real value.
