Development of Program for Enhancing Learners' Mathematics Learning Motivation and Analysis of Its' Effects (수학 학습 동기 증진 프로그램 개발 및 적용 효과 분석)

  • Mathematics learning motivation is an important variable which is not only the primary goal of learning mathematics but also mediates the effects of the mathematics learning. Nevertheless, the present learning environment is full of impeding factors which reduce learners' motivation to learn mathematics and mathematical self-regulatory efficacy. The purpose of this study is to offer various suggestions for program to enhance and forster mathematics learning motivation based on empirical findings and theories on motivation, self-regulatory learning, regulatory focus, reducing academic stress and math anxiety. The concrete and practical ideas are suggested in terms of mathematical self-regulatory efficacy, learners' characteristics, learning task. The analysis of the effects revealed a positive effect on mathematical self-regulatory learning.

Piagetian cognitive developmental level and learner control as instructional design variables in CAI (CAI 설계변인으로서의 Piaget 인지 발달 수준과 학습자의 수업조절 (learner-control))

  • CAI 프로그램 개발에 Piaget의 인지 발달 이론과 학습자의 수업 조절(learner-control) 전략을 적용하기 위한 기초 연구로서, 미국의 North Carolina주에 있는 Greensboro Day School의 9학년과 10학년 학생 102명을 실험 대상으로 하여 인지 발달의 수준을 조사하고, 3그룹으로 나누어 그들에게 구체적 조작 수준의 CAI, 형식적 조작 수준의 CAI, 그리고 학습자가 수업의 수준을 선택 학습할 수 있는 CAI의 3가지 형태를 각각 학습시킨 후 학습의 효과성을 조사 비교하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 조사 학생들의 3.92%가 구체적 조작의 초기 수준(IIA)에, 37.25%가 구체적조작의 완전 수준(IIB)에, 47.06%가 형식적 조작의 초기 수준(IIIA)에, 그리고 11.76%가 형식적 조작의 완전 수준(IIIB)에 있는 것으로 나타났다. 2) 구체적 조작 수준의 문항에 대하여, 형식적 조작 수준의 CAI를 실시 한 그룹은 학습자 수업 조절 CAI를 실시한 그룹보다 유의하게 높은 학업 성취도를 보였다(F=3.660, P=0.031). 3) 구체적 조작 수준의 문항에 대하여, 형식적 수준의 수업만 학습한 그룹은 구체적 수준과 형식적 수준의 수업을 신어서 학습한 그룹보다 유의하게 높은 학업 성취도를 보였다(F=3.257, P=0.044). 4) 성취도 검사의 전체 문항에 대하여, 구체적 수준의 수업만 학습한 그룹의 구체적 수준의 학생들은 구체적 수준과 형식적 수준의 수업을 섞어서 학습한 그룹의 구체적 수준의 학생들보다 유의하게 높은 학업 성취도를 보였다(F=5,340, P=0.009). 5) 형식적 조작 수준의 문항에 대하여, 구체적 수준의 수업만 학습한 그룹의 구체적 수준의 학생들은 구체적 수준과 형식적 수준의 수업을 섞어서 학습한 그룹의 구체적 수준의 학생들보다 유의하게 높은 학업 성취도를 보였다(F=3.511, P=0.044).

Effects of Individual Self-Regulated Cognitive Strategies and Public Education on Academic Achievement : Application of the Hierarchical Linear Model (개인의 자기조절 인지전략과 공교육 수업제도가 학업성취에 미치는 효과 : 위계적 선형모형의 적용)

  • This study used Hierarchical Linear Modeling analysis to investigate the effects of individual self-regulated cognitive strategies and public education on middle school students' academic achievement. Participants were 6389 (boys 3287, girls 3102) middle school students from the 2005 data of the Korea Education Longitudinal Study. Results were as follows : (1) there were significant differences among different schools in middle school students' academic achievement, i.e. 20% of variance in English achievement and 15% of variance in mathematics achievement were explained by school differences. (2) Students' elaboration and meta-cognitive strategy influenced academic achievement positively. (3) Predictor variables by ability grouping, supplementary class, and/or self-learning class had no significant effects on students' academic achievement.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine some effects of four menu types: icon menu, icontext menu, pulldown menu, and bar selection menu. Each have been mainly used with hypermedia instruction, learners' metacognition on their errors, menu search time, and scholastic achievements. A further purpose of this paper is suggest some strategies for enabling each learner to select menus more efficiently in order to enhance the learner's own learning effectiveness in hypermedia instruction. There were 100 college students selected as subjects for This study. They had never had experience in Hanoi hypermedia instruction. They were required to use four menu types at random in this experiement. The results of this study are as follows. The menu types had a significant effect on the low metacognition regulation group. Icontext menu types, especially, had a significant effect on achievements. In constrast to this, the menu types did not have any significant effect on the high metacognition regulation group.

Analyses of Volition Strategy by Achievement Level of the Students with High Learning Motivation (학습동기가 높은 학생들의 학업성취도 수준에 따른 의지조정 전략 분석)

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the frequency and type of volition strategy, according to achievement level, employed by students with high learning motivation, and to identify the role volition strategy plays in keeping students motived to learn science. To accomplish these aims, two groups of students(each containing three members) were selected. Students in the two groups both had the same cognitive level and high learning motivation. However, one group's science achievement was high, and the other was low. Through interviews and class observations, volition strategies students in the two groups used when they encountered hindrances in science learning were compared. Results of the study revealed a relationship between achievement level and volition strategy. Students showed differences in the frequency and types of volition strategies used according to science achievement. It was found that students with higher achievement levels used volition strategies more often to overcome hindrances in science learning than those with lower achievement levels. Furthermore, students with higher achievement levels generally used internal mind control strategies while those with lower achievement levels used environmental control strategies. Lastly, findings found that the types of volition strategies used by lower achievement level students were very limited.

The Effect of Writing Activity through learning-Notebooks on Mathematics Academic Achievements (학습 노트를 활용한 쓰기 활동이 수학과 학업 성취도에 미치는 효과)

  • I took a look at the note written by the students in math class. But, it was sort of a 'scratch paper' because they focused only on the problems or do not know the writing a notebook. Thus, I prepared organizational writing activity through learning-notebooks and analyzed the results from the writing activity through learning-notebooks in order to recognize the effects how the activity influences students' mathematics academic achievements and attitude. As a result, I could find that writing activity through learning-notebooks contributes to the enhancement of mathematics academic achievement and attitude.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the cognitive theory of Multimedia learning in a Smart Pad environment. Specifically, the viability of the multimedia principle and individual difference principle was tested for this study. To accomplish this, participants were divided into two groups based on their prior knowledge level (high/low), and members of each group were given one of two Smart Pad based programs, one text-based and the other text and image based. Results indicate that the use of images and the interaction between image use and prior knowledge did not have a significant effect on cognitive load levels. However, there were significant effects on learning achievement. This study implies that when developing Smart Pad based learning content, the small screen size compared to PC monitors, types and functions of images, and learning objectives should be considered.

  • 본 연구에서는 날로 관심이 커지고 있는 ICT교육에서 한축을 담당하고 있는 ICT소양교육의 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 학습자 요인이 무엇인지 확인하고자 하였다. 선행연구에 기초하여 ICT소양교육의 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 잠정적인 변인을 인지적 영역(메타인지, 창의성, 선수학습), 정의적 영역(자아개념, 성취동기, 컴퓨터에 대한 태도) 6가지로 선정하였다. 도출된 변인을 바탕으로 ICT소양교육의 학업성취도를 예측하는 요인이 무엇인지 분석하였다.

The Effects of Project Method on Children's Academic Achievement on the Unit of Growing Flowers and Vegetables in Practical Arts (초등학교 실과 '꽃과 채소 가꾸기' 단원에서 프로젝트법이 학업 성취도에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of learning achievement by comparing project approach group and the control group on the unit of growing flowers and vegetables in practical arts education. For this purpose, the experimental study on the unit of growing flowers and vegetables was achieved with 63 students(5th grade 2 classes) in S elementary school. The project approach model (Chung, Sung-bong) was applied to the experimental group, and the traditional model to the control group. To verify the effects of each class, nonequivalent control group post test-only design was applied 10 times. The SPSSWIN(ver 12. 0. 1) was used for analyzing the frequency and t-tests. The results of this study were as follows ; First, there was significant effect of learning achievement(cognitive domain) in the project approach groups. In addition, learning achievement of the experimental group has been showed significant difference about intellectual function and ability but not about knowledge. Second, there was significant effect of learning achievement(psychomotor domain) in the project approach groups. In other words, there has been showed significant difference in basic skill and integrated skill for growing flowers and vegetables but not in elemental skill for planting. Third, as the post test, there existed significant effect(affective domain) in the project approach groups. In other words, there was a meaningful difference in acceptance, value, belief, actualization but not in interest. Based on these results, It is believed that the project approach model in the unit of 'growing flowers and vegetables' is more effective than the traditional learning method in learning achievement of learners' cognitive, psychomotor and affective domain.

Impact of Role-play activities on academic achievement and learning attitude in science class (과학수업에서 역할놀이 활동이 학업성취도와 학습태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Cell division in biological education is an important and unintelligible unit. Most of students have no interest in learning the content, and don't concentrate on it because cell division unit contains relatively difficult content. In this vein, during considering the effective learning methods, the researcher found role-play as the method for student's positive access to important and unintelligent learning content. Effect of role-play on their learning achievement of science was analysed through the Chapter of cell division on 3rd grade of middle school students. For this study three levels of middle school students were selected from the school located in Seoul. And divided this students into experiment group and control group by 2 classes respectively. Before putting into practice this instruction, there took into account the before and after of students' learning achievement and their learning attitude by using same questionnaire. On the other hand, the researcher put into practice co-variate analysis by using SPSS statistical package as the measurement method.
