This study investigates the time-space characteristics of intra-urban passenger flows in the Metropolitan Seoul area. In particular, we analyze the relationships between transit ridership and land use through the use of the subway passenger flow data obtained from the transit transaction databases. For this purpose, the strength of each subway station, i.e., the number of total in-coming and out-going passengers at each station, in the morning, afternoon, and evening, is calculated and visualized, which reflects urban land use patterns. Then the subway stations are classified into four groups via a hierarchical analysis of the in-coming and out-going passenger flows at 353 stations. Each group appears to have characteristic properties according to the region, e.g., residential areas and central business districts. This has been confirmed by the analysis which probes explicitly the relationship between the local socio-economic variables and station groups. This analysis, disclosing the inter-relationship between the subway network and urban land use, may be useful at various stages in urban as well as transportation planning, and provides analytical tools for a wide spectrum of applications ranging from impact evaluation to decision-making and planning support.

The empirical law that transverse dunes migrate inversely with their heights leads logically to the prediction that multiple dune ridges will converse to a single huge dune by merging. This contradicts the existence of the steady state dune fields on the Earth. The recent studies have emphasized dune collisions as a key mechanism to the stability of dunefield. The roles of wind shadow aspect ratio, however, have yet to be fully explored. This research aims to investigate the potential roles of wind shadow aspect ratio in the dynamical behaviors of transverse dune field. The simplified model is established for this, based upon allometric properties of transverse dunes, wind speedup on the stoss slope and sand trapping efficiency. The derived governing equations can be transformed to the zoning criteria and vector field for dune evolution. The dynamics analysis indicates that wind shadow aspect ratios do not produce convergent areas on the behavior space; rather, they just act as one of the factors that affect the trajectories of dune evolution. Though the model cannot represent the stability of dune field, but seem to produce a reasonable exponent for dune spacing-height relations.
This study is to analyze the induced effect, network connectivity, and network visualization of the water transportation industry on the overall economy in relation to all industries. For this, various inducement coefficients of the water transportation industry are analyzed using industry linkage analysis and unit structure matrix, and network visualization analysis is performed using network connectivity and NetDraw using Ucinet 6 that utilizes unit structure matrix and inverse matrix function. As a result of the study, analysis results of input coefficient, production inducement coefficient, value-added inducement coefficient, and inter-industry chain effect were presented as various inducement coefficients in the water transportation industry. content was presented. Through this study, the current position and status of the water transportation industry and its relationship with all industries were confirmed, and the strategic relationship with which industries it should be presented was presented. In the future, it is necessary to further analyze the current status and trends of various induced effects, connectivity (centrality), and network visualization analysis using industry-related analysis published since the 2000s.

In the present work, a number of three-dimensional (3D) parametric numerical analyses have been carried out to study the influence of tunnelling on the behaviour of adjacent piles considering the transverse distance of the pile tip from the tunnel. Single piles and $5{\times}5$ piles inside a group with a spacing of 2.5d were considered, where d is the pile diameter. In the numerical modelling, several key issues, such as the tunnelling-induced pile settlements, the interface shear stresses, the relative shear displacements, the axial pile forces, the apparent factors of safety and zone of influence have been rigorously analysed. It has been found that when the piles are inside the influence zone, the pile head settlements are increased up to about 111% compared to those computed from the Greenfield condition. Larger pile settlements and smaller axial pile forces are induced on the piles inside the pile groups than those computed from the single piles since the piles responded as a block with the surrounding ground. Also tensile pile forces are induced associated with the upward resisting skin friction at the upper part of pile and the downward acting skin friction at the lower part of pile. On the contrary, when the piles were outside the influence zone, tunnelling-induced compressive pile forces developed. Based on computed load and displacement relation of the pile, the apparent factor of safety of the piles was reduced up to about 45%. Therefore the serviceability of the piles may be substantially reduced. The pile behaviour, when considering the single piles and the pile groups with regards to the influence zone, has been analysed by considering the key features in great details.
A total of 83 surface sediments and 55 sea water samples, collected from the southwestern sea of Cheju Island, were analyzed in order to understand their textural characteristics, geochemical composition and the clay mineralogical features. The sediments were subdivided into ten textural classes, namely clayey sand, slightly gravelly muddy sand, sandy clay, clay and mud. The coarse and fine-grained mixed sediments are distributed in the northern part and around the Island, whereas the fine-grained deposits are mainly distributed in the central and southern parts of the study area; small scale mud patches are distributed in the southwestern and northern parts of Cheju Island. The high concentration of total suspended matter in study area gradually increase toward the southwestern and northwestern offshore area. The concentration of geochemical elements is as follow: the content of Mn, Al, Zn, Cr, Cu and Sn increase toward the southern part which is covered mainly with fine-grained deoposits, whereas the content of Ca, Mg and Ag is higher in the northern area; the elements such as Ni, Na, Fe and Pb are more concentrated relatively in muddy deposits rather than in sandy sediments. The light minerals such as Na-Ca feldspars show a high content around the Socotra Rock, toward the Soheugsan and Cheju Islands, but the K-feldspars are relatively high around the Cheju Island. It was noticed that the provenance of these sediments is partly influenced by the geological characteristics near the island. X-ray diffractogram for clay minerals from the southeastern mud patch and around the Soheugsan Island shows the diagnostic calcite peak indicating that the greater part of these clay fraction may have been derived from present and ancient Hwangho River. The high concentration of smectite in the northern part near the Cheju and around the Soheugsan Islands, eastern side of Socotra Rock probably result from supplies smectite altered from volcanic materials distributed in the Cheju Island and Socotra Rock, whereas the samples near the Chuja and northern parts of the Cheju Island contain weak calcite peak and high concentration of kaolinite and chlorite which is closely related to the geolgical characteristics on the adjacenting land area.
We report petrologic characteristics including $^{40}Ar-^{39}Ar$ absolute ages of the subsurface lavas recovered from borehole cores in two islets, Marado and Gapado, off the southwestern coast of Jeju in southernmost Korea and discuss on the volcanism in the region. The lavas in Gapado are apparently divided into one unit with bright colored, aphanitic texture and sheet jointed, and another unit with dark colored and massive. The outcrops often show differentially weathered pattern due to textural difference. While, the lavas in Marado have vesicular and glomerporphyric texture, even though each lava flow unit in Marado has slight unique texture with variation of vesicularity and phenocrysts. The chemical composition of rock core samples from Gapa borehole and Mara borehole shows that the lavas from Gapado and Marado are classified into basaltic trachyandesite($SiO_2$ 52.6-53.6 wt%, $Na_2O+K_2O$ 7.3-7.5 wt%) and tholeiitic andesite($SiO_2$ 51.7-52.8 wt%, $Na_2O+K_2O$ 3.6-4.1 wt%), respectively. The measured $^{40}Ar-^{39}Ar$ plateau ages range from $824{\pm}32\;Ka$(MSL -69 m) to $758{\pm}\;Ka$(MSL 19 m) for core samples of Gapa borehole and $259{\pm}168\;Ka$(MSL -26 m) for a core sample of Mara borehole, respectively. The absolute age of Gapado basaltic trachyandesite is well correlated with that of Sanbangsan trachyte(Won et al., 1986). Meanwhile, the age of a sample in Marado has $259{\pm}168\;Ka$(MSL -26 m) with poor plateau age formation and high error range. We report the data in caution but the rock composition and absolute age of Marado tholeiitic andesite are relatively correlated with those of lava units from Duksu and Sangmo-2 boreholes, indicating the volcanism during 260-150 Ka. On the basis of interpretation of occurrences of exposed and subsurface volcanic rocks of the study area, stratigraphic relationship with adjacent borehole cores and the bathymetry chart of surrounding area, it indicates that the lavas in Gapado were formed around 800 Ka during relatively early stage of volcanic activity in Jeju Island. Meanwhile, Marado may have originated around 260-150 Ka during relatively young stage of volcanism in Jeju Island. It is inferred that the volcanisms have originated in land and these islets were individual ancient volcanoes. The apparent topography has been re-shaped by tidal erosion due to transgression.
Background: With the development of the molecular biological methods, studies of the early diagnosis of lung cancer and the detection in the preneoplastic state by using genetic probes in the high risk groups are widely investigated. In lung cancer, squamous cell carcinoma is considered to progress from the normal bronchial mucosa to the preneoplastic state, and finally to the invasive carcinoma. In this study, we investigated the expression of p53 and c-erbB2 in the normal bronchi and the cancer tissues in patients with squamous cell lung cancer to evaluate the possibility of using these immunohistochemical markers as the diagnostic and prognostic parameters of patients with squamous cell lung cancer. Method: The normal and cancerous bronchial tissues of 25 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the lung, surgically resected from May 1995 to November 1996, were immunohistochemically stained with the monoclonal antibodies to p53(DAKO-p53) and c-erbB2(phamingen 15821A) respectively. We compared the expression status of these markers between the normal bronchial mucosa and the tumor tissue, and also investigated the relationship between the expression status of these markers in tumor tissues and the pathological stage, and the survival time. Results: The pathological stage was as follows; stage I, II were found in 5 patients respectively, stage IIIA was in 8 patients, stage IIIB was in 4 patients, and stage IV was in 3 patients. The expression rate of p53 in the squamous cell lung cancer was 48%, and it was not expressed in the normal bronchial mucosa. The expression status was increased as the pathological stage advanced(p=0.0091 by test of trend). But there were no relationship between the expression of p53 and the median survival time. C-erbB2 did not yield a significantly meaningful result. Conclusion: p53 was not found in the normal bronchial mucosa, but it was expressed in 48% of the tumor tissue. And the expression rate increased as the pathological stage advanced. So it would be helpful to apply the immunochistochemical stain with p53 in the bronchial biopsy specimen in the early diagnosis trial or staging of squamous cell lung cancer.
This study was done to evaluate whether there were any differences in microleakage of class V composite restorations according to restoration site and cavity size. Total sixty-four restorations were made in molar teeth using Esthet-X. Small ($2\;{\times}\;2\;{\times}\;1.5\;mm$) and large ($4{\times}2{\times}1.5\;mm$) restorations were made at the buccal/lingual surface and the proximal surface each. After 1,000 times of thermocycling ($5^{\circ}\;-\;55^{\circ}C$), resin replica was made and the percentage of marginal gap to the whole periphery of the restoration was estimated from SEM evaluation. Thermocycled tooth was dye penetrated with $50\%$ silver nitrate solution. After imbedding in an auto-curing resin, it was serially ground with a thickness of 0.25 mm. Volumetric microleakage was estimated after reconstructing three dimensionally. Two-way ANOVA and independent T-test for dye volume, Mann-Whitney U test for the percentage of marginal gap, Spearman's rho test for the relationship between two techniques were used, The results were as follows : 1. The site and size of the restoration affected on the microleakage of restoration. Namely, much more leakage was seen in the proximal and the large restorations rather than the buccal/lingual and the small restorations. 2. Close relationship was found between two techniques (Correlation coefficient = 0.614/ P = 0.000). Within the limits of this study, it was noted that proximal and the large restorations leaked more than buccal/lingual and the small restorations. Therefore, it should be strictly recommended large exposure of margins should be avoided by reducing unnecessary tooth reduction.

Digital TV tuner for 8-VSB modulation was developed with satisfying the requirements of ATSC. The double frequency conversion and the active tracking filter in the front-end were used to reduce interference of the adjacent channels and multi-channels, which suppress If beat and image band. However, it was impossible to get frequency mapping between tracking filter and first VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator) in the double conversion digital TV tuner differing from conventional NTSC tuner. This paper, therefore, suggests the available structure and a new method for automatic frequency selection by obtaining the mapping of frequency characteristic over tracking voltage and the combined hardware which compose of Micro-controller, EEPROM, D/A(Digital-to-Analog Converter), OP amp and switch driver to solve above problems.
Available nutrients in soil solution play key roles on the growth of plants, but the equilibria in soil solution can be disturbed by acid precipitation. In this study, we investigated the relationships between element concentrations in the needles of Pinus thunbergii and chemical properties of forest soil solutions in the industrial complexes as an effort to find the possible limiting factor(s) causing the forest decline. The Ca/Al molar ratios in needles of Pinus thunbergii collected from the control sites were 18. However, at Onsan and Ulsan industrial complexes, those were decreased to the ranges from 10 to 11 for the one-year old needles and from 9 to 10 for the two-year old needles. The Mg/Al molar ratios showed similar tendencies with the Ca/Al molar ratios of the needles of Pinus thunbergii. In the A horizon, there existed a significant correlation between Mg concentrations in the needles of Pinus thunbergii and Ca/Al molar ratio of forest soil solution. Calcium concentrations in the needles of Pinus thunbergii in the B horizon were also significantly correlated with Ca/Al molar ratios of forest soil solutions. The uptakes of Ca and Mg by Pinus thunbergii were mainly limited by Al in the soil solutions of the A horizon and by Mn and Al in the soil solutions of the B horizon.
