  • The goal of this study was to examine property changes induced by the choice of filler used with an epoxy resin that was developed in 2014 to restore cultural assets and consider the applicability of the resin as a restorative agent. The properties of putty mixed with 9 types of fillers and as-developed resins were compared with those of existing materials with regard to stability, superiority and applicability. The potential of the putty as an alternative material was also examined. The materials produced the best adhesiveness, color change and hardness results when mixed with lime. Micro balloon produced the best wear rates and hardening times, while diatomite produced the best tensile and compressive strengths. A plaster and white mineral pigment mixture produced the best specific gravity. Every material except for lime exhibited about 2.5-20 times higher wear rates than the existing material, which is thought to exhibit an excellent cutting force. The hardening time was enhanced by about 0.5-9 times to improve convenience. The stability of the relic was also ensured by improving hand staining without any shrinkage or deformation. The material exhibited about 0.5-27 times less yellowing. Thus, it is thought to be a material that can reduce property changes and reduce the degree of relic fatigue which occurs during reprocessing and sense of difference from relic.

  • Purpose: This article attempted to determine the factors affecting the preload and screw loosening. Methods: Available clinical studies from 1981 to 2008 from the PUBMED that presented screw loosening data and review articles regarding screw joint stability were evaluated. Eleven studies dealing the biomechanical principles of the screw mechanics were reviewed. Moreover, the results of our data were included. Results: The frequency of screw loosening was consequently reduced due to the advancement in torque tightening with torque wrench, screw material, coating technique for reducing the frictional force, and thread design, etc. If preload in the screw falls below a critical level, joint stability may be compromised, and the screw joint may fail clinically. The types of fatigue failure of screw were divided to adhesive wear, plastic deformation, and screw fracture. Conclusion: An optimum preload is essential to the success of the implant-abutment complex. To maintain optimum preload, using a torque wrench and re-tightening at recall time were needed.

  • In this study, von Mises stress and total strain energy density characteristics of lead pin in PGA (Pin Grid Array) packages have been calculated by using the FEM (Finite Element Method). FEM computation is carried out with various heat treatment conditions of lead pin material under $20^{\circ}$ bending and 50 mm tension condition. Results show that von Mises stress locally concentrated on lead pin corners and interface between lead pin head and solder. von Mises stress and total strain energy density decrease as heat treatment temperature of lead pin increases. Also, round shaped corner of lead pin decreases both von Mises stress and total strain energy density on interface between lead pin head and solder. This means that PGA package reliability can be improved by changing the mechanical property of lead pin through heat treatment. This has been known that solder fatigue life decreases as total strain energy density of solder increases. Therefore, it is recommended that both optimized lead pin shape and optimized material property with high lead pin heat treatment temperature determine better PGA package reliability.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the physical properties and self-healing effects of hardener-free epoxy-modified mortars(EMMs) using ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBFS). The EMMs with GGBFS were prepared with various polymer-binder ratios and GGBFS contents, and tested for strengths, adhesion in tension, water permeation and self-healing effects. The conclusions obtained from the test results are summarized as follows. The compressive strength of the EMMs with GGBFS is reduced with increasing polymer-binder ratios because of reduction of the degree of hardening in the EMMs, and is somewhat inferior to that of unmodified mortars. In the flexural and tensile strengths, the flexural strength of the EMMs is almost constant with increasing polymer-binder ratios. However, the tensile strength of the EMMs is gradually increased with increasing polymer-binder ratios. Regardless of the GGBFS contents, the adhesion in tension of the EMMs increases sharply with increasing polymer-binder ratios. The water permeation of the EMMs is remarkably reduced with increasing polymer-binder ratios and GGBFS contents. The self-healing effect of the hardener-free EMMs with GGBFS is improved with increasing water immersion period at a GGBFS content of 20%.

  • Stay cable is easily exposed to vibration induced rainy wind effects. There are some problems for not only unexpected vibration but also well-known vibration. An outbreak of displacement by the said effects brings damages such as over-tension of cables and barriers, fatigue of anchorages and dampers, and additional shear force variation of stiffening girders. This study suggests analytic methodology for dynamic tension variation of cables and shear force variation of stiffening girders. Additionally this study announces with dynamic problems for cable stayed bridge briefly. To realize this subject, we divide restoring force into chord component and normal component and then make up the differential equations which can satisfy physical phenomenon for each component. Finally we apply adequate functions such as sinusoidal and parabola in order to reduce these differential equations. Therefore we can meet with good results through a series of above process. As a remarkable result, CIP recommendations (2002) give inadequate solution with over 10% error. However it gives very good solution if parts of our study are reflected at the said recommendations. The fact means that CIP recommendations (2002) well-known as international standard of stay cables are not even concern about this subject yet. For verification of this study, F.E. analysis using E.C.C. with external forces was fulfilled, and the accuracy and conciseness of this study were shown.

  • Phase transformation, superelastic characteristics and variation of surface residual stress were studied for Nitinol shape memory alloy through application of UNSM technology, and life extension methods of stent were also studied by using elastic resilience and corrosion resistance. Nitinol wire of ${\phi}1.778$ mm showed similar surface roughness before and after UNSM treatment, but drawing traces and micro defects were all removed by UNSM treatment. It also changed the surface residual stress from tensile to compressive values, and XRD result showed less intensive austenite peak and clear martensite and additional R-phase peaks after UNSM treatment. Fatigue resistance could be greatly improved through removal of surface defects and rearrangement of surface residual stress from tensile to compressive state, and development of surface modification system to improve not only bio-compatability but also resistance to corrosion and wear will make it possible to develop vascular stent which can be used for circulating system diseases which run first cause of death of recent Koreans.
